Chapter 78: THE SEARCH IS OVER

VINCENZO’S POV

Adriana hadn’t come home that evening, but I didn’t mind; I had confirmed that she was in Grace’s quarters, so I knew they were likely talking, and besides, maybe she could use this time to get used to the woman.

I wanted to see her reaction when I told her about my plans, and just as expected, it was bad. She was totally against it but it was for her own good.

If the Bratva decided to attack, I couldn’t afford to be distracted and be thinking about her safety, so to ensure that I could focus on my family and my people, I needed to get that distraction away, and I needed to keep her safe. She wasn’t a fighter, she wouldn’t last if that Bratva got their hands on her.

They wouldn’t just torture her like my father did, they would kill her outright this time. They had, after all, tried to use her once, but it backfired on them, so this time, they wouldn’t need her if they were going to attack fully; they would just kill her to get to me.

I couldn’t even reveal the place where I wanted Adriana to hide, and even though I knew it was a bad idea to keep her there, it was the safest place I could think of.

After a while with Grace, I had left her and told her to keep searching for Adriana’s real parents because somehow I knew that Lord couldn’t be her father.

Lord Rossi had a daughter,, according to the record,s, but my guess was that something had happened when Adriana was bo,rn, which is why she ended up with him instead.

I was in my study, going over the plans we had made at the meeting again when there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," I said without looking up.

The door was pushed open and Val entered, a grim look on her face.

I looked up at her and tilted my head. "What is it? Did something happen?"

"Seriously? Are you sending her away because of the clash which may or may not happen?"

I sighed seeing as that was what she was here to talk about. "Would you prefer that I keep her here and risk her life?"

"No of course not, I just wanna know where you’re gonna keep her"

I leaned back in my seat, knowing I could trust her with what I was thinking. "The Haven. I’m gonna keep her in the haven, it’s safe there"

She sighed but she didn’t protest. "The Haven seems fine to me. The location is confidential now anyways so it won’t be easy to go to unless you end up spilling it yourself"

"Of course not" I frowned at her.

I thought about my suspicions about Lord Rossi and I decided to talk to Val about it. "You know when I said that lord Rossi is working with the Bratva?" I asked.

"Yeah?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"I believe he isn’t Adriana’s real parent, I’m asking Grace to look into it and after I find out the truth, I’ll have to make a few changes with the Haven then"

She didn’t bother to ask what type of changes I wanted to make because she knew I would likely not tell her.

"Also, after speaking with Damon, I found out that our snitch is blue-eyed," I informed her.

Her eyes slightly widened at that and she let out a slight sound of disbelief as she tried to narrow down the options. "But that would mean..."

I quickly raised a hand for her to stop. "No..wait. Let’s not jump to conclusions; it could be anyone, and it could have been a lie, but I just want you to keep a close eye on those people who are on that narrowed-down list," I instructed her, and she nodded stiffly.

"Also, can you tell Adriana to come home for dinner? It’s almost time for her meds, and she’s not picking up; I think she’s still mad after the whole stuff," I sighed, opening the document in front of me.

Val visibly stiffened at that, her gaze fixed on anything but me. "About Adriana, I may have said something that I wasn’t supposed to say and I believe that’s why she’s mad"

My hand that was leafing through the pages stopped mid-page, and I looked up at her. "And what did you say?" My tone was low and measured.

She looked at me with a raised chin. "We were talking and I may have told her you and I were once..."

She didn’t continue; she didn’t even need to continue. My eyes widened, and my lips slightly parted. "Why would you say something like that?!" I immediately scolded her.

"I’m sorry, it just kinda slipped out!"

"Shit," I cursed, grabbing my phone, ready to go to Grace’s quarters, when Val stopped me before I could leave my study.

"What?" I asked impatiently.

She shook her head at me. "Give her time and just explain what happened to her. I’m sorry, I should have been more careful with my words and not let something like that slip out"

I glared at her, anger blazing in my eyes. "You’re right, you should have been more careful" I growled at her before walking out of the study, leaving her standing there.

As I walked outside towards Grace’s quarters, I was in a dilemma as I wondered what to say to Adriana. I had never seen it fit to tell her because Val and I weren’t really together, and it had been a year now, after which we kept it as just friends.

Adriana may not understand and this just had to pop up when I was already having issues with Adriana. As I neared the quarters, I received a message from Grace and a part of me hoped it was about Adriana but instead, it was a completely different thing.

"Finished the search. Found a match. Her father" The message said.
