Sold to the Capo-Chapter 80: JEALOUSY
ADRIANA’S POV
We were walking back to the mansion with me leading the way, my steps brisk and full of intention while he walked behind me, his hands in his pockets and his gaze burning into my back. The intense stare almost made my legs wobble, but I managed to make it to the house.
He seemed to be deep in thought, too, like he was trying to gauge my reaction to something.
As soon as we got into the house, I sat down on the couch, refusing to look at him even as he sat on the couch right in front of me.
"Look, once more, I just want to say I’m sorry, I really didn’t mㅡ." He began to apologize again, but I cut him off.
"I’m not really interested in your apologies. I want more answers, and you said you would give them to me if I asked, correct?"
He nodded immediately, his gaze fixed on me, unwavering.
"Firstly, I want to know how long you were together, and no, I’m not jealous or anything, I just want to know the timeframe for you to consider it not too important to tell me when I suspected something between you two," I asked, maintaining my cool demeanor.
"We were together for just a month. A long time compared to the other women I had and a short time compared to the times I have spent with you" He pointed out without a second thought.
"And how did you guys get together? I spent hours trying to think about how that could have happened, but I couldn’t just think of a plausible option," I said, crossing my legs, my heart pounding in my chest.
He sighed and placed his head in his hands. "Let me explain what happened. So she was originally... working in a club and I happened to be there one night and I got drunk but it’s not what you’re thinking, nothing happened between us or anything but she was in my room when someone tried to kill me in that vulnerable state and she saved my life" He paused and I listened attentively, my ears perking up to hear better.
"Then what?" I urged him, eager to know what had happened next yet he was taking his time like he was having a hard time talking.
Whatever was bothering him, it wasn’t about Valentina; something else was wrong, but one step at a time. I would get to that too.
"After she saved my life, I knew that she would be killed by the people whose plans were ruined, so I took her under me. She wanted to train too, and I let her, and she proved herself. Where she is in my ranks today isn’t because of we were once together but because she proved herself worthy of the title"
I knew that Val had fought her way up to be his confidante but I still couldn’t erase the fact that they were something more. "Wait, in your story here, you didn’t say anything about you dating her"
"Oh, I never dated her..." he quickly denied. "We kept things just... you know...for a month" he looked extremely uncomfortable as he searched for my reaction. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
My eyes widened and I looked away. Of course, I knew what he meant. They had been in a physical relationship.
"Does that bother you?" He whispered. "I didn’t want to say it because it wasn’t like we actually dated, and we agreed to keep it as friends later on," He said softly, waiting for my answer, anxiousness written on his face.
I shook my head, more to tell myself that I didn’t care. "No, I don’t care. It’s all past now and what’s my business anyways? It’s not like we’re actually uh together..." I let out a nervous laugh.
His hawk eyes watched me with intensity. "You are bothered by it," I heard him whisper, but he didn’t confront me about it, thankfully.
"Now, what’s Gamma Haven?" I quickly changed the topic.
He tensed at that and I immediately knew that was very important. "Why are you asking?" His voice sounded tight.
"I’m in this state because your father wanted to know. It’s fine if you don’t want to tㅡ" I wanted to say dismissively but he cut me off by speaking.
"When someone comes to me with a request about finding someone for them who has been sold into the mafia world, I find them that person and keep the person safe but the person who made the request must in turn join my ranks. The Garots. They’re my most trusted ranks because their families and loved ones are under my care making them loyal. They have to serve me for 5 years, then they can choose to leave, but I make sure that they’re safe and comfortable either way," He explained without taking a breather.
For a brief moment, I didn’t talk and I tried to understand what I had just heard. So the Garots were tied to him because he was keeping their loved ones safe and the place he was keeping them safe was called Gamma Haven?
When I snapped back to reality, he was staring at me, waiting for my next question. "Last question, what happens if your father learns about the Haven?" I had to ask
"He’ll kill them all, my father doesn’t believe in mutual help like that. He’ll kill them all" he whispered.
Of course, he would. He just wanted to take but never wanted to give.
"Can I ask you a question now?" Vincenzo looked more calm as he stood up from his seat and walked up to me, his demeanor calm.
"What?"
"Are you jealous?" He suddenly asked out of nowhere.
"Huh?"
"Are you jealous at the thought of me with another woman or is it just me who feels I’m losing my mind when I see you with a man?" He breathed out, his gaze searching.
Was I jealous?
