Hua Qingyi drove all the way, feeling quite gloomy as he glanced at the person who got into the car on their own through the rearview mirror. He hadn't intended to take them along, but since Xiao Lin hadn't said anything, he naturally kept quiet.

"Director Zhao hasn't appeared for many days." Wu Shuang held her head; she still felt a bit dizzy, occasionally glancing at Mu Rongyun beside her. Recently, it seemed she often encountered this person in times of crisis, uncertain whether it was fortunate or unfortunate, or something else.

"He might already be dead." Xiao Lin lowered his head, knowing the Fourth Master's character; such a person usually wouldn't be left around.

"Why?" Wu Shuang asked in surprise.

"Wasn't it he who informed you about the death of the little policeman?" Xiao Lin turned to ask. "Didn't the hospital issue a certificate of natural death?"

Wu Shuang caught the hidden meaning in Xiao Lin's words; she felt a bit apprehensive, not because of Xiao Lin's words, but because of the question Hua Qingyi raised.

"I think we're too late." Hua Qingyi stopped the car on the outskirts, where several military vehicles were already parked in the open space, empty of people and without license plates.

"You stay here." Xiao Lin's uncompromising tone made Wu Shuang both surprised and displeased, and Mu Rongyun, who had been silent all along, grabbed Wu Shuang as she was about to get off.

"Why?"

"They are people you shouldn't come into contact with." Mu Rongyun glanced at the military vehicles, understanding the situation instantly. He comfortably nestled in the back seat, appreciating the difference a good car's seat makes.

Xiao Lin walked straight to the military vehicles, familiar with them as much as his own QQ car. After circling the vehicle once, he stood facing the door, now fully open.

"Are you sure they are Dragon Soul people?" Hua Qingyi still harbored a sense of distrust. In this matter, none of them had coordinated with Dragon Soul, and he believed his old man wouldn't meddle in such affairs. So who else could it be? "Is it your old man?"

Xiao Lin shook his head, uncertain. "Let's go down and see."

This was Hua Qingyi's first time entering through the front door. Under ample lighting, it seemed so ordinary that one doubted whether the prior imaginations were excessive in making this standalone building appear eerie. Inside, there was nothing except a large chimney stretching from floor to ceiling.

"So that's how it is." After a quick sweep of the inside, Hua Qingyi's gaze fell on the mechanism of the door. A slot, three pins—a simple principle.

One section of the chimney was open, and Xiao Lin pointed at the door as a soldier emerged from within. Upon seeing Xiao Lin and Hua Qingyi, he couldn't help but tremble. "Who are you?"

The question was quite intriguing. Who are we? Hua Qingyi chuckled; is this person new?

Xiao Lin stepped forward, directly bypassing this person and entering the door. "Wait a minute." The young soldier swiftly blocked his path, disdainfully spreading his arms. "This is a military restricted area; unauthorized personnel are not allowed inside."

"Which department are you from?" Xiao Lin, unfazed, looked straight into the young man's eyes. "Who's leading today?"

The young man couldn't answer either question, which not only raised Hua Qingyi's doubts but also turned Xiao Lin's gaze cold. Without a word, he reached directly for the young man's neck. The young man wasn't easy to deal with; as Xiao Lin reached out, he was already on guard, retreating backward. Such evasive action was odd; Hua Qingyi, standing aside, peered inside, then entered first, as if the two fighting had nothing to do with him.

"You're not with Dragon Soul; who are you?" Xiao Lin discerned from the other's attack and defense that they weren't from Dragon Soul, although the military vehicles outside were indeed of the Dragon Soul series.

"What counts as Dragon Soul?" Such arrogant rhetoric made Xiao Lin no longer hold back; that was an admission of not being from Dragon Soul, so it was time to be ruthlessly decisive.

"Since you're not with Dragon Soul, there's no need to be polite." After speaking, the young man felt a sting in his palm, and his entire arm felt dislocated and heavy, unable to lift. His previous arrogance now seemed like wilted vegetables, his face twitching.

"Damn it, what did you do to me?" The young man tried to bend his arm, but no matter how hard he tried, the entire arm acted like a stubborn child, defying the brain's commands.

"For someone as impolite and condescending as you, this is a light punishment." Xiao Lin kicked aside the young man blocking his path, his hands pocketed as he slipped into the small door.

Hua Qingyi stood at the entrance, his surprised expression matched by Xiao Lin, who followed him in. The underground area, burned to ashes, was still shrouded in thick smoke; it was unrecognizable now. The bustling sounds below drew their attention to several steel stairs propped at the edge of the pit.

Could blending oil have such power? Xiao Lin descended the stairs, a bad premonition looming in his mind; he wouldn't find anything here.

"You're not our people; what are you doing here?" Almost the same question again, irritatingly glaring at him.

"Where are you from?"

The other person didn't look at Xiao Lin but saluted to a person behind Xiao Lin. "Young Master Hua!"

Xiao Lin turned to look at Hua Qingyi, who indicated he definitely didn't know this person. "You guys are..."

"We received a report of illegal fighting here."

"I'm asking which department you're from." Judging by this person's stance, Hua Qingyi tentatively classified him as one of his subordinates, thus speaking a bit more formally.

"Dragon Soul!"

Xiao Lin laughed softly, heading toward the direction of the previously destroyed product.

"Dragon Soul?" Hua Qingyi sized up the man. "Why haven't I seen you before?"

"We exist as Dark Warriors, so ordinary people do not know of us."

"Are you implying that I'm an ordinary person?" Hua Qingyi raised an eyebrow, glancing sideways at the man before turning to the busy soldiers moving in and out.

"Oh, that's not what I meant." As they spoke, they had already walked behind Xiao Lin.

"Brother, have you found anything?" Hua Qingyi ignored this seemingly head-like figure and instead spoke to Xiao Lin, who was squatting on the ground.

Xiao Lin stood up, holding a piece of debris. "Was it in this condition when you arrived?" The surroundings, blackened by fire, were permeated with a strong smell of nitric acid.

No one answered Xiao Lin's question, which amused him due to the apparent inequality in treatment. He wrapped the fragment in cloth and handed it to Hua Qingyi.

"Sorry, you cannot take anything from here." A young man blocked Xiao Lin, his eyes filled with more than just disdain, harboring suspicion as well.

"What's your name?" Seeing he still hadn't answered his question, Xiao Lin gestured to Hua Qingyi.

"What's your name?" What an oblivious person, since when did Dragon Soul have such a thing as Dark Warriors?

"Zhao Tong! Captain of the Dark Warrior Third Squad."

"Very well!" Xiao Lin nodded and continued forward. On this charred ground, he couldn't find a single fragment of human bone. "When did you arrive here?"

Zhao Tong glanced at Hua Qingyi, whose face was expressionless. "An hour ago."

"Ah!" After a circuit, Xiao Lin arrived at the former low building. Now blackened, the wood had turned to ashes scattered on the ground, and the bodies were nowhere to be found. "Let's go, there's nothing of value here anymore."

"Where are the bodies?" Hua Qingyi suddenly asked Zhao Tong.

"What bodies?" Zhao Tong answered innocently, without any evasion.

"Which department is your department directly under?"

"Sorry, I'm unable to disclose that."

"Hmm!"

"It seems they aren't giving us any face!" Xiao Lin smiled at Hua Qingyi as soon as they stepped out, having intended to treat that young man's arm, but by the time they left, he was nowhere to be seen.

"Brother, stop teasing me." Hua Qingyi tilted his head awkwardly, following Xiao Lin to the riverside. "I didn't expect Fourth Master to act so swiftly."

"It might not be the Fourth Master, rather someone doesn't want us to know certain things." Facing the flowing water ahead, Xiao Lin spotted few oil traces floating on it.

"Why is there oil here?" Hua Qingyi noted the stains on the water, attempting to retrieve a bit, only to be stopped by Xiao Lin.

"Earlier, that Zhao Tong said they arrived an hour ago, but judging by the air quality and burn marks on the ground, he's clearly lying. Plus, when we entered, the air was filled with the smell of nitric acid, hence they were all wearing masks."

"I'll go back and look into this matter." Hua Qingyi never doubted Xiao Lin, sharing the same suspicion about Zhao Tong.

"The division within Dragon Soul doesn't seem to be unfounded." Xiao Lin walked in the opposite direction of the oil stains, finding an oil can at the source, more than half submerged in the riverbed, likely obstructed by something below, preventing it from fully sinking. "Report the situation here to Lao Long."

"What?" Hua Qingyi wondered if he had misheard, as this seemed to contravene their original intent.

"The underground factory's area definitely doesn't extend to here. Aren't you curious about what's underneath?" Xiao Lin squinted as the overhead light made his eyes uncomfortable.

"I think you're deliberately trying to cause more trouble for Dragon Soul, aren't you?" He refused to believe Xiao Lin was genuinely curious, as Xiao Lin chuckled softly twice.

"They've left." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Should we follow?"

"There's no need, I believe Lao Long will have an explanation for this." (To be continued. If you enjoyed this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
