Special Forces Medic-Chapter 730 - 697: A Scoundrel?
The so-called "using strength to counter strength" is a clever tactic. Leveraging the momentum of the man's punching force, it seemed as if it had struck Xiao Lin's neck. Grasping the man's wrist, Xiao Lin pulled backwards, causing the man to be thrown in the direction of his own force. Xiao Lin conveniently fell forward, landing right beside the car tire and began vomiting, looking every bit like a drunk person, dazed and confused.
The man, seeing he had knocked down his opponent, charged at the vomiting Xiao Lin with more vigor, lifting his right leg and kicking towards his abdomen.
"Mmngh!" Xiao Lin clutched his abdomen, being knocked and slamming into the car door with a loud thud.
"Damn it, bastard! You tripped me, now see how tough I am!" He said, about to kick Xiao Lin again. The latter rolled to the side, flipping over entirely, one hand slapping against the window as he slowly climbed up from the ground. At his advantage, the man wouldn't let him easily stand, jumping from behind for a powerful smack on his back. The just-risen person fell to the ground again, and stomach acid spewed onto the car.
As if affected by external forces, the car sank slightly, and a person got out from the other side, circled around the hood, and flung Xiao Lin, who was leaning on the car, away.
"Stay out of the way here!" The person who got out of the car looked imposing, raising a bloodthirsty killing intent on his cold face, scaring the girl into grabbing the man and running away.
After being flung away, Xiao Lin stood still a few steps back, shook his head a couple of times as if sobering up. He saw that the couple had already run off and turned his gaze to the person standing beside the car, staggering towards him. "Hey! Who are you? Why, why are you hitting me, huh?"
The man looked down at Xiao Lin, his hand already caught and unable to shake free due to the downward force. Sometimes, drunks can exhibit a tremendous amount of strength, called brute force. "Let go!"
"You think I'll let go just because your voice sounds nice?" Xiao Lin noticed more people crowding around, and he stretched out a finger. "Why did you hit me just now? Now you want to run after hitting someone, is that right?"
The stern-looking man lowered his eyes, glaring at the shameless person before him, the left hand touching the right hand which was caught. "Still not done yet?" Someone partially rolled down the car window on the side. The speaker did not show themselves but their authoritative tone was evident.
"Immediately." However, the so-called immediately was not promptly realized, the grip on his arm felt like an iron clamp. "Let go!"
"No!" Xiao Lin heard the authoritative voice without seeing the person. He was still some distance from the rear of the car, holding the man's arm, stepping forward one step. "Don't think about leaving."
"What on earth do you want?" The man grew impatient, taking a step back and pulling his captured hand towards his abdomen, drawing Xiao Lin closer. Seizing the chance, he cleverly jerked his hand free. Quickly returning to the car door, he shot a silent look at Xiao Lin before getting inside and swiftly departing.
"Who was that just now, taking so long to handle?"
"A rascal, looks like he drank too much."
"Even dealing with a commoner takes so long, you're slipping."
"Yes, sir, I know I was wrong."
Is it really a commoner? The man didn't speak the truth; though the person pushed out was the other, the handprint on his wrist was clear and painful.
"What happened to your wrist?"
"Oh, it's nothing." The man paused his wrist movement, realizing his own carelessness.
"Hmph!" The man leaning back in the rear seat snorted, then turned to the driver. "Look into who that person was."
"Sir, should I...?"
"You?" Another cold snort, the man said no more. He still couldn't grasp the temperament of the man behind him, even after many years of following, unable to fathom his emotions.
"The Northern Palace was destroyed. Make sure to clean it up properly, don't leave evidence like those idiots."
"Yes, sir, it's being taken care of." The man addressed as 'sir' closed his eyes to rest, feeling sleepy after getting up early.
The car's license plate had only four digits, and it wasn't local. Xiao Lin patted off the dust from his body, ultimately unable to see the people inside.
"What are you looking at?" Hua Qingyi's car stopped in front of Xiao Lin. "Get in."
Yan Fengying sat in the back of the car, her face still ghostly pale. As soon as she saw Xiao Lin climb in, she immediately wanted to leap at him but was blocked by the seat back. "You have to save me, he'll find a way to kill me again, I can't die."
"If you want us to save you, shouldn't you tell me now who wants to kill you?" Hua Qingyi looked at the frowning Xiao Lin, questioning Yan Fengying through the rearview mirror.
"Who are you?" From the police station to the Northern Palace, Yan Fengying had not exchanged any words with Hua Qingyi. Just upon arriving at the Northern Palace, an incident occurred, and they were taken away; only now did they pause. Seeing Xiao Lin made Yan Fengying feel secure, but she remained vigilant against the driver.
"I'm the person in charge of this case, and he's my bodyguard."
"You're the one in charge of this case?" Yan Fengying couldn't help but glance at Hua Qingyi a few more times, realizing she'd been mistaken, thinking it was the person in the passenger seat all along.
"Someone's trying to kill you now. Is there anything you want to tell us?"
"Let's negotiate a deal." Yan Fengying seemed to make a significant decision. To ensure her life safety, she had to make such a choice. To maintain any relationship, one must have life first.
"Conditions?" Hua Qingyi chuckled; in some ways, he wasn't an easy person to talk to, no matter if the other party was male or female.
"Yes, if you agree to my conditions, I'll tell you what you want to know." Yan Fengying nodded.
Hua Qingyi turned the steering wheel, stopping the car on the roadside. Xiao Lin opened a gap in the window, letting in a bit of warm air. He lit a cigarette and smoked silently.
"You're the one in custody now, and you still want to negotiate conditions?"
"Even if you're dispatched by the city committee, please watch your language. I'm not your prisoner, and you don't have the evidence to consider me a criminal at most, only a suspect." Yan Fengying took a breath and leaned against the left car door. "The bones found in Beigong can only prove that something might have happened here, but it can't prove that it was me, or someone from Beigong who did it. They just fell into those ditches, and those ditches have existed for a long time, anyone could have done it, including Beigong."
"You're not wrong, but since you're talking about conditions, doesn't that imply these bones are related to Beigong?" Hua Qingyi thought this woman was foolish. Why negotiate for self-preservation if there's no relation?
Yan Fengying widened her eyes, repeatedly contemplating Hua Qingyi's words, seeming to agree. She dejectedly lowered her head.
"Yan Fengying, you'd better honestly tell us what you know. That's the right way to fight for your life; relying on conditions is useless." Hua Qingyi turned around. "We can ensure your life's safety; other things, looking at the current form, may not entirely be yours. Staying alive is the most important."
"Can you really guarantee my safety?"
"Shou has arrived; I need to step out for a while." Xiao Lin, who had been sitting silently, suddenly opened the door, left without another word, ignoring the two above.
"Oh!" Hua Qingyi mumbled internally. Ah, this bodyguard was truly individualistic. What kind of bodyguard leaves the master alone like this? "What did you just say?" Hua Qingyi rolled up the window and asked Yan Fengying again.
"Can you really guarantee my life's safety? They're ruthless assassins."
"You've seen it, we've saved you twice. If that doesn't convince you, I don't know how else to prove we have the capability."
"It's not that I don't believe you, but too many have died. They're all merciless people."
"Ah!" Hua Qingyi exclaimed softly. "Heh, if it comes to ruthlessness, you haven't seen what ruthless truly is."
"I have one more request. Can I stay somewhere other than that detention center? I can't stand it."
"This..."
"I just want to take a wash and change clothes. It's too smelly and dirty." Yan Fengying said pitifully to Hua Qingyi.
"I'm sorry, but you have to stay there for now. I can assure you have a place to wash."
"Is there no way to compromise?"
"Yan Fengying, I'm not a patient person, I hope you understand this."
"You can guarantee my safety, so be it!"
"Wait!" Hua Qingyi suddenly remembered something. He squinted, watching Xiao Lin disappear with Shou into the alley. He accidentally pressed the horn, emitting a brief sound. "Maybe I can fulfill your request, but it depends on what kind of information you exchange."
"Thank you!"
The car started and slowly headed toward the North Area detention place, which was just a few meters away from the police station, visible from end to end.
"Is it here?" Yan Fengying thought Hua Qingyi would take her somewhere better, but unexpectedly, it was just a few steps to the guest house.
"Unsatisfied? We can go back; I don't mind."
"No, no, this is fine, really." Yan Fengying cursed internally, her face wrinkled. The guest house was much worse than her own home.
"Boss, another room please." Hua Qingyi tapped the countertop. The guest house owner came out from the back door, smiling as if nothing had happened.
"Got a new sister this time, eh?"
"Yeah, how about it? Your wife still not back? Not going after her?" Hua Qingyi teased the owner.
"Gone is gone!" The guest house owner handed the key to Hua Qingyi. "As usual, the room next door, okay?"
"You really know me well." (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote and support. Your support is my biggest motivation.)
