Special Forces Medic-Chapter 842 - 815: Preliminary Hearing of Yan Juanjuan
"What happened?" Xu Ming was still in shock, seeing Xiao Lin next to him with a grave expression on his face.
"Director Xu, take your men and push outside." Hua Qingyi already started contacting bomb disposal experts.
"Wait, let’s discuss when the experts arrive!" Hua Qingyi said, blocking Xiao Lin while making a phone call. The echo from the hollow sound just now indicated there was emptiness beneath, the pipe hitting some kind of metal substance echoed explosively. Luckily, it didn’t hit the trigger point; otherwise, no matter how fast they were, they couldn’t save those two people.
Xiao Lin agreed with Hua Qingyi’s words, it wasn’t time for him to act heroic. "Boss, what’s really going on?"
"Nothing."
The waiting time was long and distant, as a military vehicle drove in, Xiao Lin jumped down from the ruins. "Why are you leading the team personally, is Sharp Sword Team out of people?" Upon seeing Guo Liang, Xiao Lin frowned deeply.
"Oh, why such an expression like you don’t want to see me, who else could surpass me in bomb disposal? Seriously." Guo Liang’s combat skills weren’t the best, nor was he the best in planning and management, but he had his own unique talents that no one could learn. That’s why, upon receiving the call, he rushed over without hesitation with a few men. "What’s the situation now?"
"There might be a bomb under that pile of items, the nature is unknown, the components are unclear, when struck it makes hollow sounds."
"I see...", it’s difficult to assess the potency of a bomb when its nature is unknown, relying merely on sound to determine the presence of a bomb could be a bit overly anxious. "I’ll go check it out, you all stand at the outer perimeter of the factory." After Guo Liang spoke, he had his men take the detector from the car and began scanning the surroundings, the sensors did show bomb reactions, but the signal wasn’t very strong.
"Guo, that pile was created later, be cautious," Xiao Lin reminded him from behind.
"Got it!" Following the sensor signals, Guo Liang didn’t head towards the high pile, instead he leaned to the left.
Beep beep beep beep, the alarm grew louder and louder, Xiao Lin had already moved quickly to Guo Liang’s side, cautiously approaching the sound direction.
Among the ruins already leveled to the ground, a small red light flickered. Guo Liang, wearing protective gear, used specialized tools to pry open the surrounding debris, revealing a small timing bomb before them. In fact, it didn’t appear to be a timing bomb since there was no timer on the detonator, and the red light was connected to wires of three different colors.
"What is this?" Xiao Lin asked Guo Liang curiously. He had seen many bombs, but rarely one like this, resembling those rustic cannons used by mountain farmers for hunting animals, although looking slightly more refined.
"Don’t underestimate this thing, it packs quite the punch!" Guo Liang took out wire cutters and an insulated metal rod from his bag. "This kind of bomb originated from the folk, typically used for blasting fish, adding more dose could be used for hunting large beasts."
"I know that, but why is it here."
"Such impatience, let me finish," Guo Liang continued as he pressed the metal rod against a wire, pinpointing a section with the pointed cutter, revealing the inner coil. "In folklore, this is called a rustic cannon, easy to make, though this one’s slightly modified with a pressure device, similar to a landmine, only exploding when stepped on." He explained while cutting a yellow wire, followed by a blue and a red one, then instructed his men to remove the bomb and secure it in an explosion-proof box. "There should be more of these here, we’ll stay on, Secretary Hua and the others are waiting for you to return."
"Is there really no issue? Should I leave some personnel behind?" It’s not his expertise field, staying would be a hindrance; but Guo Liang confidently tilted his chin at him.
"Indeed, leaving them would be obstructive, this is a domain of professionals, you should go."
Uncomfortable, Xiao Lin still let Xu Ming stay with the commander, driving Hua Qingyi’s car to Sharp Sword Team.
In an unexpectedly small room, Yao Zheng sat in the middle, flanked by Hua Muyun and Wu Mian, transitioning from an observer to the lead examiner; the role switch left him uneasy, wanting to refuse but being pinned down by Hua Muyun’s statement, "It’s best for you to inquire personally since the issue occurred on your turf." It was polite, yet brooked no refusal.
How would it begin, Yao Zheng pondered the vacant seat ahead. Facing anyone wouldn’t be easy for him, definitely a deliberate arrangement by Hua Muyun.
"Yao Zheng, who do you think we should start with among these five individuals?" Hua Muyun lit a cigarette, relaxing slightly with Secretary Luo’s absence.
"Secretary Hua, I think I should avoid conflict of interest, though I’d like to participate in the case review, since they are my subordinates, and one of them was my classmate in college, asking me to lead doesn’t seem proper, nor in line with procedures."
"According to standard procedures, it indeed does not comply with regulations for review, but Secretary Luo told me that when you begged him yesterday, your attitude was unusually sincere, and you firmly promised not to engage in corruption. So, I think you know your people best; entrusting it to you is not out of the question."
"District Chief Yao, don’t refuse anymore; the case has been dragging on for a long time. Didn’t you emphasize repeatedly when reporting the case how ruthless Yan Juanjuan’s methods were? Now that the person has been apprehended, just conduct the review openly. With our municipal party committee backing you up, what are you afraid of? Be bold." Wu Mian encouraged Yao Zheng from the side, glancing at Hua Muyun and patting Yao Zheng’s back. "Why not just start with Yan Juanjuan directly!"
"Oh, alright!" Feeling a sweat breaking out, Yao Zheng really wanted to smoke a cigarette. He smelled the aroma wafting from Hua Muyun’s hand and sniffed.
"You seem a bit nervous. Want one?" Hua Muyun pushed a pack of Panda cigarettes toward Yao Zheng; only a fool would actually take one at this moment.
"No, thanks! Bring Yan Juanjuan in!" Yao Zheng took a deep breath and shouted towards the outside. Hua Muyun intentionally arranged everything at the Sharp Sword Team only to secure a reliable foothold for himself. The Northern District was his territory, yet nowhere felt safe. For a moment, he regretted not having Ye Zi take action. Now he didn’t know where she was or how she was doing.
The door sounded behind him, a faint fragrance drifted in. There was no clanking of heavy chains, nor the sound of shoving or scolding. Yan Juanjuan, upon entering, was led by a female soldier to a position in front of the three men and seated.
"No handcuffs or shackles needed!" Wu Mian dispensed with the locks and cuffs on the chair to prevent the suspect from attacking the interrogating officers or attempting an escape during questioning.
Yan Juanjuan was wearing the clothes she was brought back in that day, her face clean. Seeing Yao Zheng sitting in the middle position, she couldn’t help but sneer cynically, her gaze falling on Hua Muyun. They had met several times before, once as a business tycoon, now as a criminal.
"Secretary Hua!"
"President Yan!"
"Let’s begin!"
"Yan Juanjuan, do you admit to the crimes you’ve committed?" It seemed that Yao Zheng had never done this kind of work before. Even if he wanted to coerce someone, he would directly get rid of them if they didn’t comply. At this moment, he was completely disoriented.
"What crimes?" Yan Juanjuan’s attitude towards Yao Zheng was arrogant and disdainful. Wu Mian leaned back, observing the two with keen interest. Today promised to be a quite intriguing interrogation.
"Yan Juanjuan, don’t act like you are some kind of president here. You’re a prisoner now. Cooperate with us, confess the course of the crime, and you might get leniency."
"Leniency?" Yan Juanjuan laughed twice mockingly. "Yao Zheng, among all those accusations you’ve put on me, is there a single one eligible for leniency? Go ahead, enlighten me."
"Yan Juanjuan, watch your language!" Yao Zheng’s eyes widened, his heart pounding. He couldn’t help but glance towards Hua Muyun at the side.
"President Yan, attitude is crucial. Cooperate where needed, and speak up where necessary. Base everything on factual grounds. Share everything you know." Hua Muyun exhaled smoke, his tone indifferent yet slow, as if hinting at something to Yan Juanjuan, but also as if speaking to certain people. Yan Juanjuan, being sharp, naturally perceived a hint from Hua Muyun’s cue.
"Yes, Secretary Hua. If I’ve done it, I will admit it. But if I haven’t, don’t think about pinning it on me. Whatever I know, I will definitely reveal the truth."
"Hmm, that’s a good attitude! Yao Zheng, you may continue!" Imitating Wu Mian’s posture, Hua Muyun leaned back, leaving the floor to the two in front.
"District Chief Yao, we aren’t meeting for the first time. Just ask directly." Yao Zheng didn’t expect Yan Juanjuan to be so straightforward. He paused and looked to Wu Mian for help.
With permission, Wu Mian took the case files from Yao Zheng’s hands, glanced over them, and whispered in his ear.
"Yan Juanjuan, during the establishment of Hengfei Group, in what manner did Hengfei Mansion acquire the land rights in its early days?" Yao Zheng coughed once before posing the first question.
"District Chief Yao, if I remember correctly, weren’t you present during the land transaction? I also recall that the director ordained for the North District Land Planning was someone named Wang, but this person has been lying in Beigong’s ditch for three or four years now. Such a pity. Also, one participating in the land auction with me was someone from the Xia Family. How could you forget that?"
"Yan Juanjuan, we’re here to handle your case. Don’t drag others into this." Wu Mian shouted, and Yao Zheng cast him a peculiar glance. (To be continued.
