Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 39—Target locked
Having decided on what to do with the day, Cole stood up fiercely and proceeded to leave his resting spot.
Despite having a lot of time to think about it, Cole couldn’t come to a conclusion on which ability to actually record.
Ruminating for a while, he could only decide on one thing.
"How about I just run around the forest to find one that seems compatible?"
Though it sounded very charlatan, unplanned life in a slum had made Cole realize that a sense of order actually arises from randomness.
After concluding on the lack of a plan, Cole faced a random direction and ran straight at it.
The way he plans to go about it is just to run in random directions till he hears sounds of battle.
Following the sound of battle, he finds the battlefield and checks if any of the displayed abilities actually interests him or matches his current one.
Having a direction of action, Cole immediately enacted it. He arrived at new locations and left them behind.
All while mapping out locations to prevent himself from running in a circle.
Cole’s sprint led him deeper into the forest, where it was more active than how it was before.
Clang!
Cole suddenly heard a sound of battle from one direction. He perked his ears to listen attentively.
And just as he thought, a battle was actually going on. Cole tried his best to be as stealthy as he could while he was slowly encroaching on the location.
When he got close enough, still attempting to maintain his stealthy state, Cole climbed up a tree to get a better view.
After attaining his desired position, Cole could finally focus on the battle.
The battle was between two generic-looking students that didn’t appear too strong.
They both seemed to possess Armament Innate Spirit as they were battling using weapons.
Armament Innate Spirits gives them a very large edge in mastering the corresponding weapon and also abilities related to such spirits.
Some spiriters might possess innate spirits that are a combination of both Armament and Elemental spirits.
The two Spiriters in front of him seemed to have purely armament innate spirits, though, as their battle didn’t display any signs of elemental abilities.
Cole continued to watch their battle that was dragging on for what seemed to be too long.
None of the Spiriters seemingly have anything noteworthy about their spirits.
About ten minutes later, Cole lost his patience and decided to leave to search for other Spiriters.
While leaving, Cole sent a final glance at the two fighting Spiriters and was chanced enough to actually see one win.
The one with an axe’s innate spirit won by a close shave.
"The result was determined by who actually mastered their weapon more," Cole thought.
"Wait, Who mastered their weapon more?" Cole repeated while thinking back to Lucius’s words.
"You need to comprehend your innate spirit to advance."
"I should master the Empty Codex more then," Cole decided.
A small part of the cloud obscuring his thoughts was partially lifted, offering a little bit more clarity.
His short break and encounter wasn’t all for naught, as he was able to gain some things.
Cole continued his Sprint through the forest, still searching for a ’Victim’ and before too long he finally heard signs of battle again.
Like he previously did, he sneakily approached the battlefield to see what was going on.
The battling spiriters this time were much stronger than the previous ones, though not as strong as Cole perceived Lucius to be.
"They must be high-stage dormant-level Spiriters," Cole judged.
This current battle was between two Spiriters with two completely different innate spirits.
One had a beast Innate spirit, which could be judged from the Claws on the student’s fingers.
The other had an elemental innate spirit that seemed to be of the earth’s attributes.
Spiriters could decide to display their innate spirits when battling or not summon them at all, just directly utilizing their abilities.
The battle this time was more one-sided; the student that possessed the claws was completely overpowering his opponent.
The claws were cutting through the earth attacks like butter, rendering the attacks all useless.
Cole was actually quite interested in the claw ability, but he knew it wouldn’t work at all.
Firstly, his current ability, the flaming fist, was a close combat ability that mainly used his hands, and this claw ability was also the same, so using them together would probably be more detrimental than helpful.
After a bit of analysis, Cole realized it wasn’t the right choice and proceeded to leave.
This time he didn’t wait or even look back; instead, he directly sprinted away.
Fight after Fight, scene after scene, Cole encountered them all, but nothing seemed to satisfy him.
None of the displayed abilities were right for what he was looking for.
Spending almost the whole day searching has left Cole quite tired, resulting in him resting on a tree to catch his breath.
"You can’t attack me if you can’t touch me," Cole suddenly heard from quite a distance away.
The voice originated from several locations as if the source were rapidly shifting.
Cole was immediately attracted; he wasted no time before he rushed towards the general direction of the sound.
The reduced brightness of the evening made his journey a little bit arduous, but after a bit of time, he arrived there.
The general location where the sound was coming from was something quite rare in the Forest of Chaos.
It was a clearing with just a few grasses growing there.
Cole treaded softly to avoid alerting his target while moving closer to the point.
On getting Close enough to get a full scope of the situation. Cole encountered something that marveled him.
The battle actually involved three people. Two students were actually attacking one student.
But weirdly, the student that was being ganged up on wasn’t at an advantage.
Instead, it was even obvious he had a little bit of an edge over the two students.
He weaved all across the clearing, dodging all of the attacks while also landing a few attacks of his own. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Watching that scene, Cole could feel his blood rushing aggressively with adrenaline pumping all through his veins.
His body seemed to be signalling to him that he had found the right one.
"Target Locked," Cole said while trying to conceal his excitement.
