Chapter 44: Chapter 44- Cain

Just as the punch was about to hit her.

Cole heard a whistling sound rushing towards him from somewhere beside him.

Boom!

An explosion rang out upon collision.

It wasn’t between Cole and Linda’s heads though.

A large blue flame had hit Cole cleanly on the fist. Resulting in that explosion.

The blue flame was so hot, Cole felt like his hands were literally melting.

"Haaaaaa," he screamed out.

He then looked down at his own hands that were currently bright red and even steaming slightly.

It appeared the Flame from the Flaming fist mitigated some of the attack’s effects.

He didn’t have time to dwell on the injuries at all. He abruptly turned to look towards the direction the attack came from.

From the side, Cole could see an astonishingly handsome blue-haired kid standing aloof.

He looked at Cole with a dismissive and condescending gaze that displayed his true thoughts.

A little behind him was another student, but this student had red hair just like Linda did.

A red-headed student could be seen hiding within the trees, looking in a direction.

In that direction, both Cole and Linda were currently in the midst of battle plus a conversation.

The kid looked with a slightly interested and disgusted expression.

"Isn’t it that guy that prevented disrupting our plan in the library not too long ago?" The student questioned.

"What is his relationship with Miss Linda?"

"I need to inform Lord Cain," The student said before turning around to leave as fast as he could.

Cole and Linda were completely focused on the battle, so they weren’t able to notice the unwanted presence.

****Present Moment****

"Are you trying to kill someone from the Brussell Family," The blue-haired kid said.

Before Cole could respond.

"It’s none of your business, Cain," Linda suddenly shouted out.

Cain, on the other hand, didn’t even respond to her shouts; instead, his eyes were still completely focused on Cole.

Cole didn’t know how to respond or even what to say. Cain’s

overbearing presence completely clouding his mind.

"You should be killed for attempting to kill a Brussell," Cain said.

He hadn’t even finished those words when a blue flaming arrow began taking shape beside him.

The heat emanating from the attack spread all across the environment, warming up the air.

"Could he have reached the Awakened Level?" Linda thought with wide eyes.

Cole while still resting on the ground, Cole could feel the intense danger coming from the attack.

Alarm bells kept going off in his mind as he stared straight ahead.

The feeling of danger finally overrode the fear and pain he was feeling as he regained a little bit of reasoning.

"I need to get out of here."

That was the only thought dominating Cole’s mind. Every other thought was shoved aside.

Since he had made a decision, Cole immediately decided to activate the only skill that could be useful in that situation.

Kinetic acceleration.

Taking the time it took to activate into consideration, it might not have been the best choice, but Cole had no other choice.

The arrow was finally released, and it rushed straight towards Cole.

Cole watched the arrow get closer and closer to his face while his surroundings got hotter.

Linda’s flame appeared to be nothing compared to this. He now found himself in the same situation that just occurred not long ago, but this time he was the victim.

Using every bit of energy he had, Cole stood and turned around, and just at the right time, the ability activated.

He suddenly blitzed away from Cain’s current location and further away from the whole scene.

He didn’t leave unscathed, though; the ability activated a little too late, resulting in him getting partially hit by the attack.

Since the ability only provided just a short blitz of speed, Cole soon returned to normal speed.

He activated the ability again while still running. While the ability was getting ready to be activated.

"You will pay for this, I swear," he turned around and shouted.

The ability finally activated and pushed him further away.

Behind him, Cain watched Cole’s vanishing figure with an indifferent gaze.

To him, Cole was just an ant he could thwart anytime he wanted.

Instead of proceeding to chase, he turned towards Linda.

"Hanging with such lowlifes despite your status, do you want to tarnish the Brussell family name," He said coldly.

Linda opened her mouth, ready to retort, but the next thing she did made her almost crazy.

"Even your Father doesn’t have the guts."

Instead of attempting to retort, this time Linda madly sent out barrages of sword slashes.

All of them aimed pinpointedly at Cain and the student behind him.

They both had vastly different expressions. The student wore an expression of deep fear while Cain was still nonchalant.

With a swipe of his hands, Cain was able to destroy most of Linda’s attacks. Leaving the rest that didn’t pose a threat to him.

"The flaws of your attacks are too obvious," Cain said coldly.

Linda watched with intense anger and also helplessness. She knew she wasn’t as strong as Cain was, but that didn’t stop her anger.

Her Father had always been a soft spot, and hearing Cain talk about him like that made her extremely infuriated.

Realizing she had lost her cool, Linda decided to leave as soon as possible.

She turned around and began storming off.

The lackey beside Cain attempted to stop her, but seeing her expression, he could only fearfully withdraw.

"Lord Cain," he said.

Cain only signaled to him to let her leave, saying nothing more.

"Why did you let her leave, Lord?" the lackey asked.

"Do you really think that was her full strength?" Cain responded curtly before also turning to leave.

****Cole’s Location****

Cole had used the ability three more times since then, leaving him completely sapped.

He trudged through the forest with heavy steps while he thought back to what just happened.

"That bastard, just because he is currently stronger than I am,"

"Just because he was born privileged," he thought with gritted teeth.

He wasn’t able to think for too long due to his darkening vision and his heavy eyelid.

"This place is too dangerous to fall asleep; I mustn’t," Col

e thought while gritting his teeth.

Cole could feel multiple eyes watching him, waiting for him to lose consciousness so they could grab the chance.

He fought as hard as he could, but at the end. He was too drained and too injured to stay awake.

"Will be dying here," He thought while his whole body crashed towards the ground.
