Chapter 97: Chapter 97—Suspicious outsiders

Cole observed the looks on their faces while trying to figure out what could have happened.

"They look just like a group of demons," Cole muttered.

Just as he was about to approach them and interact with them a little.

He suddenly stooped.

"Cole, stop getting distracted; you are on your way to do other things; you can come back," he said to himself.

Despite being reluctant to leave, he knew he was actually supposed to have left already.

"I will be back," he muttered before turning around.

Behind him, some members of the crowd stared at him with venomous eyes and gritted teeth.

"Lucky you didn’t approach," One of them said.

Cole’s steps were much faster when he had left the settlements and was now in a more deserted area.

In no time, he arrived at the familiar building, but this time he didn’t plan on entering.

He only wanted to use the surrounding area.

Before starting anything, Cole sat on the ground and cultivated for a bit more to get to his utmost state.

After cultivating the World-Absorbing Mantra for so long since his advancement, Cole had begun feeling a small-stage breakthrough.

The moment he felt completely refreshed and ready, Cole rose to his feet and began to stretch.

"Let’s continue the test," he said with a smile.

With that, he activated Eyes of Scrutiny, which was accompanied by dizziness while consecutively activating Kinetics Acceleration.

Looking down at himself like he did earlier, Cole saw the specific path of flow of Life energy.

He tried to pay extra attention toactually get where he needs to make changes to arrive at the required results, but he couldn’t.

Attempt after attempt, try after try, Cole observed himself, and he still ended up with the same thing.

Though he felt a little progress and he knew what direction he actually needed to progress in, he just couldn’t get the most vital step.

Laying flat on the ground, Cole’s chest was in exhaustion while he stared at the sun above.

"This is much harder than I thought," Cole said.

"But it is something that needs to be done."

His mind wandered back to the battle again, thinking of his lapses and the errors he made.

His mind slowly moved away from himself to Micheal himself. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"How does he still use his Innate spirit?" Cole asked.

Everyone associated with that association he had fought previously never has their Innate Spirits anymore; they focus more on the physical side.

But Micheal had an increased physical strength along with his Innate Spirits abilities.

"Scary," Cole said with a dry smile.

By this time, he had already regained his normal breathing, so he prepared to resume his training again.

"Going to get it this time," Cole said while standing up.

From that moment, sounds of blitzing movement kept sounding from that area continuously.

The sun had reached its peak and had even begun setting by now, but Cole still kept on trying.

The sun had almost set now when Cole looked at himself.

His clothes were drenched in a weird mixture of sweat and sand, making him look dirty.

"I better return home now," Cole said while looking at the sky.

Despite training for so long and so hard, in an attempt to get that thing, Cole was only left in disappointment.

"Didn’t end up getting it today, but at least it wasn’t all for nothing."

Cole knew he had gotten better in his utilization of the ability, so he didn’t totally lose.

With a soft smile on his face, Cole turned around and began his journey back home.

His steps were calm and soft but not rushed at all, leaving since he didn’t really have anything else to do.

He quickly reached the new settlements again. While passing through, Cole scanned his whole surroundings, and what he found out shocked him.

The air present all around earlier that day was completely nowhere to be found.

The people were smiling brightly as they went about their daily life extremely normally.

"That’s weird. Extremely weird," Cole said.

Earlier that day, they looked like a group of people that just survived a large disaster, but now they are looking so happy.

"Something is really up here," Cole muttered before walking away.

The rest of the journey Home, Cole just couldn’t take his mind off the weird behavior of that group of people.

"The missing children, the expansion of the slum, and now the people’s weird behavior. Something is really wrong over here."

"I know the slum was harsh and unforgiving, but it was never as chaotic as this."

Unknowingly, he had already arrived back at the building.

Cole entered silently, making sure his presence didn’t attract too much attention.

"We have been too brazen earlier; we need to be more conservative," Cole thought.

He soon arrived in the room, under the golden glow of the evening sun, to see the others busy cultivating.

"Everyone is really working hard."

Cole attempted to be as quiet as possible, but he eventually startled the others awake.

"Sorry guys," he said apologetically.

"You are back; how did it go?" Bryan asked.

Despite not knowing the details of what went on with Cole, he had an idea.

"Not too well, but we made progress," Cole replied.

Linda didn’t speak; she just stared at the two of them with scrutinizing eyes.

"Tsk." She clicked her tongue.

"While you were out, were you able to find anything that might help our mission?"

"We are currently almost at a dead end, we have just two locations to check now," Bryan spoke.

Cole immediately straightened his back when he heard that. He was completely ready to tell his friends what he observed today.

"I think there’s a problem with the new people that have arrived in the slum," Cole said silently.

"Really? What did you notice?" Linda said with an extremely interested eye.

"I am asking because I also noticed something," she continued.

Now it was the others’ turn to be shocked.

"Really?" the two of them asked in tandem.
