Spoiled By My Brothers: Return of The Lost Heiress-Chapter 86: "She wasn’t supposed to remember that room!"
Lucien’s POV
Seraphina had run off after messing with my head and tempting me into something unholy.
She’d played with me and teased me with her touch, her words, and the way her eyes had made me drown in them.
Then she ran away the moment I drew my eyes away from her. She was quite cunning.
I wanted to go after her and tell her that she could keep running, but she wasn’t getting rid of me that easily.
But I couldn’t get myself to do that.
I wasn’t going to show up like some obsessed maniac and stalk her, justifying it because I had feelings for her.
She’d been through too much already, and she was carrying a lot of trauma, and if something went wrong between us, I didn’t want to add more to that.
I sat in my office, thinking and worrying about things that I never cared about, and moreover, I had a lot of work to deal with...
And then there was one persistent pain in the ass who didn’t know when to stop.
My phone had been ringing nonstop.
I stared at it as I was tempted to throw the damn thing against the wall just to get some peace.
But in the end, I picked up.
"What is it?" I said in a cold tone, rubbing my temples.
"Adrian, you only call when you need something. But when I try to reach you? Your phone’s always conveniently dead." I growled the moment I picked up the call.
"Forgive me. I was genuinely busy," Adrian said from the other end, his voice was calm as always. "I apologize again that I couldn’t contact you in time."
I clenched my jaw at his words. "Can you stop fucking acting all mysterious and just tell me where the hell you are?" I demanded.
He had vanished for months without a trace after introducing his sister to me.
I’d assumed he was working overseas, handling the international branch of his family’s empire. But I checked every branch and every possible location where he could be. However, he wasn’t anywhere.
"Things aren’t as simple as you think," Adrian said, and I could hear the tension in his voice. "You might be angry at me. You might want me to stop contacting you... But Lucy—"
I hated it when he called me that. I opened my mouth to reprimand him, but he cut me off.
"...You’re the only one who can heal my sister’s wounds. She is too wounded that even time couldn’t heal them.
He paused and added. "You’re the only cure I can think of."
Silence fell between us. I just couldn’t understand this person! Just what the hell was he trying to do? What was he trying to say? Why should I be the one to cure her?
Not that I mind, but why me?
"Why should I be her cure? What should I bear this responsibility?" I repeated coldly, "When you’ve already done the damage?"
"I wish I could... She won’t even look at me anymore," Adrian admitted. "I fucked up. I should’ve been there sooner. I should’ve protected her, but—"
"Yeah," I interjected in a low and sharp tone. "You should have done that... then you shouldn’t be begging me like this!"
There was a pause again. I knew the person on the other end must be feeling guilty.
"She trusts you, Lucien," he finally said in a soft tone. "I could see that. The way she speaks to you, even if she doesn’t admit it to herself, but I could tell her eyes are full of you. You’re the only one she hasn’t shut out completely and shared her pain and past with you!"
What the hell was he saying? How did he know all these things? How could he tell things that happened between us when no one was around there!
I didn’t know what the hell was happening here, but one thing I knew was that Seraphina might have shared things with me in a drunken state, but we weren’t close, and even she was avoiding me after claiming me for herself.
"You think she trusts me?" I muttered. "She ran away, Adrian."
"She ran because she doesn’t know how to stay," he said. "She is scared after facing too much in her life."
I pinched between my brows and inhaled deeply. "I’m not a fucking medical assistant or something. If you’re dumping this on me, please don’t. I’m not good at curing anyone as you want me to"
"I’m not dumping anything. I’m asking," Adrian replied quietly. "Please... don’t give up on her."
I didn’t respond.
I knew I wouldn’t give up on her after the feelings that were slowly brewing inside me; the way I could hear her voice in my head all the time was proof that I wanted to claim her, to keep her by my side.
But this wasn’t the time to tell Adrian all these things.
So instead, I said, "What do you know about Room 402?"
There was again a silence for a few seconds.
"Wh... what do you mean by that?" Adrian’s voice cracked through the line; it was rough and unsteady. "Did... did she mention that? Tell me... did she tell you herself?"
I didn’t answer.
I had never heard Adrian like this before. I could hear his ragged breath and tremble in his tone.
"I don’t think I need to tell you about how I know of this place!" I scoffed. "So, are you going to tell me or not?"
"No! You don’t understand!" Adrian almost lost his cool. "Room no. 402 doesn’t exist!"
"And?" I raised my brows and inquired. "Why are you on edge if it doesn’t exist?"
Now, I could tell that there was really something like that room in this world that was hidden.
"I’m on edge because... Because Seraphina wasn’t supposed to remember anything about that room... She shouldn’t know that!"
What!!
What did I just hear?
