Arthur didn’t need to read every line to understand it.
The moment the meaning clicked, his body already knew how to use it.
The monsters tried again. Harder this time. Desperation crept into their movements, making them faster but sloppier. Arrows flew in tighter volleys. Kobolds rushed together, shouting, shields overlapping as they tried to close every gap at once.
But Arthur didn’t let them.
He made a decision.
And the world moved with him.
One moment he was just outside their reach, pressure closing in. The next, he was inside their guard. A blade slid cleanly through a throat before the kobold even realized he was there.
Arthur stepped again.
As he appeared beside another enemy, his strike already committed before his feet touched stone. Bone cracked. The body dropped.
The battlefield shifted.
No, he shifted it.
He controlled the pace now. Not by force, not by speed, but by choice. He let them almost reach him, let their weapons scrape close enough to raise hope, then decided to be somewhere else entirely.
He teased them without meaning to.
Every time they adapted, every time they tried to predict him, he stepped again. Their formations broke not because he smashed them head on, but because he existed where they least expected him to be.
The range was short. He could feel that clearly. There were limits too, edges brushing against his awareness like invisible walls.
But within those limits?
He was untouchable.
A kobold roared and charged, wild now, formation forgotten. Arthur waited until the last possible instant. Then he stepped past it.
The dagger flashed once as he passed.
The body collapsed behind him.
Arthur didn’t even turn around.
An archer tried to retreat, backing up in panic, bow trembling. Arthur appeared directly in front of it, so close their skulls nearly touched.
"Bad idea," he said softly.
His blade came up.
The skull shattered.
Bone and blood littered the ground. The sound of battle changed around him. Where there had once been pressure and relentless coordination, there was now hesitation. Monsters slowed. Timing fractured. Movements overlapped and collided instead of flowing.
Arthur drew a deep breath, chest rising and falling, eyes bright and alive.
This was fun.
He stepped again.
And again.
And again.
Each step was a choice. Each choice reshaped the fight. He wasn’t reacting anymore. He wasn’t being pushed. He was deciding.
Inside the formation.
Outside it.
Behind.
Beside.
The monsters groaned and snarled around him, the mana they exuded thick and tainted, heavy in the air. But they couldn’t keep up. They tried to pin him down, to anticipate him, to box him in again.
But they failed.
Execution Intent cut clean and final.
Intent Step placed him exactly where that cut mattered most.
When the last skeleton collapsed into a scatter of broken bone beneath his blade, Arthur finally slowed.
Silence crept back into the space.
Only his breathing remained.
He stood still, surrounded by ruin, blood spattered across his clothes, blade resting loosely in his hand. His muscles ached. His lungs burned. But his balance was steady.
For a moment, he just laughed.
Not loud.
Not wild.
Satisfied.
"So this is what you can do," he said, gaze lifting slightly as if he could see the system watching him. "You really don’t disappoint."
He rolled his shoulders, testing himself.
No nausea.
No disorientation.
Just clarity.
Arthur stepped forward, deeper into the dungeon, confidence settling into his bones. If this place thought it could drown him in numbers, it was about to learn something important.
He would decide where he stood.
And the world would follow.
Arthur didn’t linger.
He bent down, quick and practiced, gathering what he could without slowing himself. Cracked bones. Chipped weapons. Cores still warm with leftover energy. His hands moved on instinct now, but his eyes never stopped scanning, always lifting between motions, listening, feeling the dungeon breathe around him.
It wasn’t done.
He knew that the same way a man knew rain was coming before the clouds darkened.
"This place is changing," he muttered, mostly to keep himself steady.
The fight had been ugly. Dangerous. Close.
But as he straightened and shifted his pouch from his waist to across his shoulder, the truth was clear.
He was still standing.
And the dungeon had paid for it.
Arthur started moving again, boots crunching softly over broken stone as he put distance between himself and the battlefield. He had no interest in being there when the next wave decided to arrive.
Whatever had shifted hadn’t finished stirring.
And he wasn’t foolish enough to admire his own work.
As he walked, the notifications he’d ignored finally surfaced, stacking quietly at the edge of his vision.
He smiled.
"That bad, huh?" he said softly. "Guess I made a mess."
He slowed just enough to focus.
The system unfolded, clean and familiar.

Arthur exhaled slowly as more entries scrolled past. He didn’t stop to read every one. There were too many, and the dungeon was not a place where standing still was smart.
But the pattern was obvious.
The modifiers had grown.
Execution Intent appeared again and again. Directional movement. Breaking formations. Killing while boxed in. The system had been watching closely.
And it hadn’t been stingy.
"Guess you like it when things get ugly," he said, amused.
He reached the end of the list and paused.
This was the part that mattered.

Arthur stopped walking.
Not because he had to.
Because his mind needed a moment to catch up.
Then he laughed. Quiet. Light. Edged with relief and something dangerously close to excitement.
"So that’s what a dungeon anomaly pays," he said. "Not bad. Not bad at all."
The slow grind he’d been worried about was gone. Replaced by something far riskier, and far more rewarding.
He shook his head once, grounding himself.
"Focus," he told himself. "Spend it right."
The dungeon ahead wouldn’t forgive mistakes.
Arthur opened the skill interface without hesitation.
Movement came first.
He’d felt it during the fight. Intent Step had changed everything. Leaving it at its lowest rank would be reckless.
The panel unfolded.
