Chapter 9 - Future Kazuki’s Problem

Kazuki was led to one of the better rooms on the first floor—a space clearly reserved for honored guests. The wooden walls were polished, the bed was large and covered with thick, plush blankets, and a small fireplace crackled in the corner, casting a warm glow over the room. A basin of fresh water sat on a nearby table, along with a neatly folded set of nightclothes.

Not bad at all.

Kazuki stretched his arms as he stepped into the guest room, his posture instantly losing its "divine" stiffness the moment the door shut behind him.

He let out a contented sigh. Finally, a place that doesn't smell like monster guts or damp caves.

Crossing the room, he peeked out the window. The silver moonlight spilled over the village, casting long, soft shadows over the rooftops. The streets were quiet now, the earlier excitement having faded as the villagers retreated to their homes.

They really bought it, he thought, grinning to himself. Divine wisdom, celestial burden—please. I just talked slowly and sighed a lot.

Turning away, he all but flopped onto the massive bed, sinking into the plush blankets with a sigh of absolute bliss.

"This. This is the life."

A soft chime echoed in his ears as his system window popped up.

[Inventory(New!)]

Kazuki blinked as he noticed the [Inventory] tab, now flashing (New!) beside it.

"Wait... I have an inventory?"

Curious, he mentally selected it, and a new translucent window appeared before him.

[Inventory]

Hydra's Fang Dagger (A lightweight dagger made from a Hydra's fang, coated in residual venom.)

15 Silver Coins (Currency used in the kingdom.)

Traveler's Cloak (Worn) (Provides minor resistance against cold and wind.)

Half-Eaten Ration Pack (Why is this even in here?)

Kazuki's gaze landed on the Hydra's Fang Dagger in his inventory window. With a curious thought, he reached out—and suddenly, the dagger materialized in his hand with a faint shimmer.

Kazuki turned the Hydra's Fang Dagger over in his hands, watching the dim firelight gleam off the smooth, ivory-colored fang. The blade felt unnervingly sharp, and he could still make out faint traces of the hydra's venom shimmering along the edge.

"Not bad. Fancy name, deadly poison, and best of all—I didn't have to stab a multi-headed death lizard to get it."

He gave it a few experimental swipes through the air, feeling the weight. It wasn't too bad. Actually, it was pretty nice. Light, balanced, perfect for looking intimidating without actually knowing how to use a dagger properly.

"Now I just have to avoid cutting myself like a complete idiot. Because knowing my luck, I'd poison myself before even using it on an enemy."

Satisfied, he tossed the dagger into his Inventory and finally let out a long, deep breath. His shoulders sagged. His body practically melted into the bed.

"Holy hell... did all of that really happen today?"

He stared at the ceiling, his mind replaying everything.

Waking up in a forest. Getting chased by monsters. Running for his life more times than he could count. The orcs, the hydra, the exploding chickens—

"Oh my god, the chickens."

A groan escaped him. "I'm never looking at poultry the same way again..."

It felt surreal. This morning, he was in his apartment, stressing over deadlines and wondering if he had enough instant ramen to last the week. Now, he was in some medieval fantasy world with an RPG system, a poisoned dagger, and a growing reputation as some kind of divine poultry overlord.

"Some guys get summoned as heroes, blessed by gods, wielding legendary swords. Me? I get kamikaze chickens and a dagger I'm too scared to use."

He let out a weak chuckle. It was all so absurd.

But... he wasn't dead. And for now, that was enough.

With a final sigh, Kazuki pulled the blankets over himself, too exhausted to think any further.

Tomorrow could be a problem for Future Kazuki.

Kazuki barely had a second to relax before—

THUD.

He jolted upright. His exhausted mind barely had time to register the sound before—

THUNK.

Something smacked the window frame.

"What the hell—?!"

Heart hammering, he scrambled out of bed, eyes darting around the room. His system didn't flash any warnings. No monsters bursting through the walls. No sudden ambushes. Just—

Another rock. Sitting on the windowsill.

Then came a clink—another one hitting the glass.

Oh, for the love of—

Kazuki crept toward the window like a man approaching a landmine, every instinct screaming at him to prepare for the worst. With the utmost caution, he peeked outside...

And saw her.

Standing below with her hands on her hips, looking annoyingly casual about the whole thing, was Lillian.

Kazuki blinked. Then he stared. Then he squinted.

"Are you insane?!" he whisper-shouted, gripping the window frame. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!"

Lillian smirked. "Relax, I was careful. The first two were just warnings."

"Warnings for what?!"

"To see if you were dead."

Kazuki dragged a hand down his face, trying to steady his breathing. "You could have knocked on the door, you psychopath!"

"Where's the fun in that?" she shrugged. "Now quit complaining and come down."

"Why?!"

"Because I found something interesting, and you're gonna want to see it."

Kazuki paused. His exhaustion begged him to ignore her and go back to sleep. His sense of self-preservation suggested he definitely ignore her and go back to sleep.

But deep down, he knew.

I'm going to regret this, aren't I?

Still, something about her tone—the glint in her eyes, the way she said "interesting"—set off an itch in his brain.

With a heavy sigh, he muttered, "Future Kazuki's gonna kill me for this," and grabbed his cloak.
