Chapter 143: CH 143: A Choice

Erin’s tone shifted, her interest piqued as she popped out the question, her voice taking on a curious lilt. "So, what did you see in those dreams of yours having to do with Exus?"

Erin could hear his thoughts, but she couldn’t see the dreams themselves, so Dave had decided to tell her. Or maybe just a part of it.

His thoughts then flashed back to the dreams, the memories were hazy, but the image of Exus remained vivid in his mind. He tried replaying the scenes, trying to recall any details that might be relevant. But the more he thought about it, the more elusive the specifics became.

Erin’s patience wore thin, and she prompted him again. "So, anything?"

Dave’s response was hesitant. "Nothing much," he said finally. "Just a quick glimpse of Exus’ blue-colored body, and that’s all. I didn’t even get to see his face."

Erin didn’t say anything after Dave’s words. Her interest in the dreams was palpable, and Dave knew that, but there was nothing he could tell her that will help.

For a moment, there was a silence between the two. Until finally, Erin broke the silence, her voice low and measured. "Well, now that he knows who you are, you’ll be under his radar from now on." She said.

Dave’s brow furrowed, his mind racing with the implications. "But, doesn’t that mean trouble?" he asked, his voice laced with a hint of unease.

"Will I be able to go around to do my own thing, or deal with the rest of the humans with me under his radar?" The thought of being hunted by Exus sent a shiver down his spine.

Erin’s expression turned calculating, her eyes narrowing as she outlined her plan. "And that’s why we’ll be showing up on earth," she said, her words dripping with strategy. "We have to make our presence known to him, try to make him come out of his hiding place to fight us. During that time, he’ll be so distracted that he won’t notice what you’re doing."

The plan unfolded like a chess match, each move carefully considered. "We’ll take the human with elemental powers, while you take the other human," Erin said, her voice firm.

But a hint of uncertainty crept into her tone as she added, "But, there’s a chance we might not be able to deal with the human because of Exus, so you’ll still have to deal with him later on after dealing with the other one."

The risks were evident and the stakes were high. Dave’s eyes locked onto the dark cloudy sky, his mind whirling with the possibilities. He knew that he had to be prepared for anything, since the outcome was far from certain.

Dave’s thoughts then drifted back to Erin’s words, one she had said a few hours back. She had spoken of the three humans selected by Exus, in which two were bad, and one was good.

One of them was gone, but he turned out to be a bad person. As he thought about the remaining two that were left, he wondered; Who among them could be the good guy, and who was the bad guy?

Was it the human with elemental powers, or the other one? Dave’s mind wrestled with the question, but the answer eluded him. And then, another concern nagged at him, one that made his stomach twist with unease.

When the time came to face these humans, would he be forced to kill the good guy? Would the good guy be swayed by the influence of a god, or would he remain true to himself? The thought sent a ripple of uncertainty through Dave’s mind.

The courtyard had fallen silent over time, and the gathered crowd’s eyes had become fixed on Dave as they awaited his words. He stood tall, his presence commanding attention, and yet, before speaking, he felt an overwhelming need to confirm something.

With a purposeful stride, Dave moved forward, his gaze scanning the sea of faces before landing on a young boy standing nearby.

The boy, no more than sixteen years old, had blonde hair that fell across his forehead, and sharp brows that gave him an air of intensity.

Dave’s eyes locked onto the boy’s, and he spoke in a tone that belied his own youth. "Hi kid, can I check your neck for a moment?"

Despite his own relatively young age, Dave’s demeanor was calm and authoritative, as if he had years of experience behind him.

The young boy, taken aback by the request, hesitated for a moment before nodding his head. He seemed to sense no malice in Dave’s words, and with a quiet trust, he tilted his head to the side, exposing his neck.

Dave’s eyes scanned the skin, and that’s when he saw it – the same mark that was on Sun’s neck, the same mark that each and every member of the merger had. The realization dawned on him, and his mind began to piece together the implications.

With a subtle step back, Dave’s eyes narrowed as he focused on the kid’s information.

He moved on to another person, his gaze scanning the crowd as he approached them. The same mark was there, etched into their skin like a tattoo. Same powers, same mark. He was sure most of the people aren’t even aware of the mark.

A hint of satisfaction crept into his voice as he muttered to himself. "So, beast tamers and mergers do have the same marks. This will make things easier!" The realization seemed to clarify things for him, and he nodded to himself.

With a purposeful stride, Dave headed back to his position before the crowd. His eyes swept across the sea of faces, and he began to speak, his voice clear and commanding.

"I don’t have much to say as I have a lot of tasks to do, but before I proceed, I want you to do one of these two things. You can either choose to follow me as your leader, or you can choose to live your free lives in the apocalypse. Choose the right option for yourself now!"

The words hung in the air, a challenge and a promise all at once. Dave’s gaze locked onto the crowd, his eyes burning with intensity as he awaited their response.
