SSS Ranked Shadow Monarch: Summoning Infinite Shadows-Chapter 244: Tunnels

Peter looked at him and then slowly shook his head. "I can’t really do much to help you." He said and then paused for a moment. "I do have a way you can reach the main house, it’s risky, but if you get through, you’ll be right in the main house." Peter said.

"What is it?" Aren asked eagerly.

"The old underground tunnels, I’ve been tasked to clean it once upon a time. Those tunnels were used to house the experiments they did before, then they finally stopped and it was abandoned.

It still has connections to all around the town, if you can get in, you can make it to the main house. The risk is that many unknown things were born in those tunnels, and no one dared go there for fear of what might be there." Peter explained.

"I see, would you say it’s easier than using above ground?" Aren asked.

"Oh definitely, it’s far far better." Peter explained.

"Then I’ll use there. Help me get there please, I’m ready to give you whatever." Aren said.

"Hmmm, sigh, I don’t want anything, but if you get to the main house, I want you to drop a message for me." Peter said. "Find June, and when you do, tell her that I still miss her." Peter said.

Aren’s gaze turned serious. "I’ll do it." He said immediately.

"Good, then tell her it’s Peter, she should know, if she can’t recall then I guess there is no point for me to keep longing after what can’t be mine anymore." Peter said.

"So when do we move out?" Aren asked.

"When evening falls, it’s the soft spot, the guards would be expecting you to make a move at night, so they’ll be more active, and as for now, they’ll be hot on the issue, trying to find you before you hide." Peter explained.

"I’m sure you are eager to save her, but you’ll have to wait." Peter added.

Time slowly trickled by, and evening came.

Peter opened the door and then looked out. "The coast is clear, let’s move." He said and rushed out, Aren followed quickly behind. They got into the town, moving through the houses.

Peter led the way, dodging any road that led to the main route. They managed to make it halfway there, but then suddenly a guard stopped close to the corner that they were hidden behind.

Peter immediately pushed Aren back, he wanted to peep, but Aren grabbed him and pulled him back as well. "It’s looking at our direction." He said, he knew because of shadow sense.

Sadly it was too late, the guard had noticed some movement there, and headed their way.

"Shit, it’s coming." Aren said.

If they tried to move, he would spot them, and if they stayed put, he would kill them as well when he got there.

"We don’t have a choice, we have to run." Peter said and then pulled him, they bolted deeper into the alley, the guard saw them and immediately hurled his spear at them, it spun through the air and stabbed into the ground, the floor exploded, debris flying every direction.

The guard gave chase immediately, rushing through the alley, his metallic foot slamming hard against the floor. Many other guards also moved in that direction, chasing after Aren and Peter at top speed.

"Shit shit shit, I didn’t want to get pulled into this." Peter said as he ran.

"Sorry about that, seems like I’ve pulled you in deep." Aren replied.

They made it out of the alleys and into a larger space.

"The way in is way over there, we have to be fast." Peter said, he increased his speed almost twofold, Aren kept up with him, and they got closer to the place, but then the guards came from different angles, chasing them down at crazy speed.

"We aren’t going to reach in time." Peter said.

"Yes we are." Aren said, summoning his snake, he grabbed Peter and leapt onto the back as it bolted forward with more speed.

The guards saw this and shifted gears, moving even faster after releasing steam.

"Shit, I forgot they can do that." Aren said.

They managed to get close to the gate of the tunnel, Aren immediately unsummoned his shadow, they landed on the ground and rushed for the gate.

It was a large door connected to a building, which would lead him to the tunnels.

"This is the place." Peter said.

"Then let’s go." Aren said.

"They’ll chase you in." Peter responded. "I’ll hold them off." He said. "I didn’t want to be part of this but sinc-"

"Bro shut your mouth and come here." Aren said, grabbing him, he kicked the door down and threw Peter inside. "We don’t have the time for all that, how much time can you realistically buy me." Aren said before rushing in, summoning all his wolves, salamanders, ants, and panthers to buy them time.

He rushed down the stairs followed by Peter. They went down as fast as possible.

Aren dropped down into what seemed like water, there was a splash. Very quickly he made a flame in his palm, making a light for them to see.

They were inside an old tunnel, the floors were filled with black water, it was very shallow, but a bit thick and disgusting.

"Tch, let’s go." Aren said.

"I wanted to help you buy time." Peter said.

"If you want to die, can you try and not do it for me? I don’t want more weight on my conscience." Aren said and started walking, while Peter followed behind.

The air here was heavy, and stank of rot. They walked through it fast, hoping to get far before the guards got in.

"I’m pretty much dead at this point." Peter said as they walked.

"Well, you have some more time to figure something out at least." Aren replied.

"Hmm, well, maybe I can meet June myself before I get smoked by the guards." He said.
