Standing Next To You-Chapter 187: No more to tie her down
Chapter 187: No more to tie her down
Bei Sangyun had been busy ever since she returned to the Lin mansion.
The moment she stepped foot in the third branch’s wing, Lin Ginxian immediately summoned her. As usual, the man vented the anger he had kept for the past days due to Bei Sangyun’s disappearance. He scolded her for being unbridled and ungrateful.
Bei Sangyun just let those words enter her right ear and leave on her left ear. This so-called father of hers was aware of the incident that happened with Richard, yet he blamed the entire thing on her.
Ah, how moving, Bei Sangyun ironically thought.
"--You promised to do a good job in befriending them, but you made an enemy out of them instead! How do you expect to advance in the heir competition without their support? You should ask for their forgiveness before they left, but you have gone missing! Is this how you are going to repay me?"
Bei Sangyun inwardly rolled her eyes. Was this man asking his biological daughter to apologize to the man who harassed her? How ridiculous.
Well, he acted as she expected. He never changed.
"--And where did you hide that old woman?" Lin Ginxian asked after the long tirade. He squinted his eyes at Bei Sangyun, "Is this why you have the confidence to go against my orders? Do you think I won’t be able to find her?"
Bei Sangyun’s laid-back attitude suddenly turned sharp and cold. She did not like hearing her grandma mentioned by this jerk.
"Why? Are you going to use Grandma to threaten me again? You have fallen so low that you have to rely on an innocent old woman to control your own daughter? If people know this, they will laugh at you."
Lin Ginxian’s gaze turned dark, "Bei Sangyun, do you really want me to go too far?!"
"Too far? What will you do? Will you kill me then?"
Lin Ginxian’s jaw tightened, but he couldn’t come up with a reply.
Bei Sangyun looked at him condescendingly and smirked, "If you can’t do that, then stay still. Don’t disrupt my life or do anything from now on. From this point on, I will be the one who decides everything and makes a move."
Lin Ginxian’s eyes widened at Bei Sangyun’s insolence.
What did he hear?!
She was just an obedient dog who threw tantrums sometimes a while ago, but now she dared to act like she was his superior?
Lin Ginxian’s face burned with shame and fury. Who does she think she is to look down on him?!
"Your guts truly know no bounds! You dared to order me around? I am the one who picked you up from that shabby and dirty place!"
Bei Sangyun ignored his fury and paced around the room like she owned the place. Despite the man’s anger and Lin Ginxian’s intimidating aura, Bei Sangyun was unfazed.
"...Shabby and dirty? I actually prefer that shabby and dirty place than this hell," she muttered. She then faced him with a cold smile.
"You don’t have to worry. I am still going to compete as your daughter. Compared to the others, you are lucky. You just have to stand by, and you will get all the fame and glory. All thanks to me."
’Of course, I will make sure you won’t get a penny out of it,’ she silently added.
Lin Ginxian was fuming.
"Do you think you can do it by yourself? What have you achieved so far? Without me, you will be nothing! I should have not--" Lin Ginxian’s anger wasn’t fully unleashed when Bei Sangyun raised her finger and shushed him.
"Hold your breath. I am not really in the mood to listen to your nonsense. Just throw things around when I am gone. You don’t have anything to tie me anyway. Just watch quietly what I will do from now on and enjoy the show."
Bei Sangyun approached the door, not giving any more interest to the furious man. "Also, don’t ever summon me like this again. I’ll see you when I see you."
And like a boss, Bei Sangyun left the stunned and enraged Lin Ginxian’s office by herself.
As she had said, Lin Ginxian had nothing on her to make her obey like an obedient dog as in the past. Her grandmother was safe and out of his reach. And she was no longer the past Bei Sangyun who desperately begged for his affection and attention.
She didn’t seek his approval or the acceptance of the other Lin family members. She was no longer that pitiful, desperate, naive little girl.
Even if Lin Ginxian stopped supporting her financially, Bei Sangyun could still live on. And she was sure Lin Ginxian understood this as well.
Behind her, a roar sounded in the room, followed by things being thrown around.
"You will regret this, Bei Sangyun!"
.....
Bei Sangyun had finished her first business with Lin Ginxian and directly went to the main building. However, she met with another drama.
On her way to meet the old man, she coincidentally encountered Lin Sunji in the hallway.
Bei Sangyun raised her brow. Today was Monday, and she thought Lin Sunji would be at school. She did not expect her to still be at the mansion. After all, this mean girl was desperately competing with her for the role of ideal student and top rank.
Bei Sangyun passed her by, but Lin Sunji suddenly spoke. "You almost became Richard’s fiancee and the future Madame of the Simon family. What a pity, Lin Xiaoni took the chance away from you." There was a hint of gloating in her voice.
Bei Sangyun halted her step and glanced at her with a smirk, "Yeah. It was really a pity." Although she said it was a pity, her tone was cheerful and far from being disappointed.
Lin Sunji narrowed her eyes. That feeling of punching cotton appeared again. Lin Sunji got annoyed. Why was Bei Sangyun never affected? This made all her efforts seem futile.
She did not give up and continued, "You must have been traumatized by what happened in the warehouse. You almost lost your innocence and ruined your reputation. Do you think there will be a man willing to marry you after the incident? If I were you, I would be worrying to death."
Bei Sangyun tilted her head.
’Will there be a man willing to marry her?’ What a ridiculous question. She doesn’t need the man to be willing. If she wanted to, she could just drag that man to the altar and make him swear the oath. After all, it was the great Bei Sangyun who was the bride; who would dare reject her?
A playful smile graced her lips. "You are right. You should be worried to death about your marriage. Even if you did not lose your innocence and ruin your reputation, no man will be willing."
Lin Sunji: "..."
It took her a whole two seconds before she realized that Bei Sangyun was mocking her. Her face turned red, and she gritted her teeth.
"Don’t be confident, Bei Sangyun. As an illegitimate daughter, do you think you will have a better marriage than me? People like you are usually sold off to wealthy, widowed old men!"
Bei Sangyun shook her head. She did not know about her marriage because she had never had one to begin with. But she was sure of Lin Sunji’s marriage.
When the fourth branch lost power and wealth thanks to her, Lin Sunji’s parents exerted all their effort to find Lin Sunji a decent husband and send her off with a proper marriage. They chose an upstart man with a decent character but a humble background.
However, Lin Sunji wasn’t satisfied. On the day of the engagement, she got herself pregnant with a playboy from a wealthy family. She kept it hidden until the child in her belly grew, and only then did she go to the playboy’s family to claim the position of Madame.
However, with the Lin family’s demise and Bei Sangyun’s rise in power, the playboy’s family did not look favorably at Lin Sunji. They accepted the child but did not accept Lin Sunji as Madame. Another Madame was married into that family later on, which caused Lin Sunji to commit evil actions that landed her and her parents on the streets, ultimately leading to their demise.
Bei Sangyun blinked, looking at Lin Sunji with a ’tsk.’ No wonder her future was bleak; Lin Sunji, at just eighteen, had a dark and scheming heart.
Well, Bei Sangyun shouldn’t complain; her heart was darker than Lin Sunji’s.
Living up to her reputation as someone with a darker nature, Bei Sangyun stepped forward and said softly, "You can provoke me however you want. But I am counting. You told Sophia about my illegitimate status, right? And you also gave them the idea to use Fei Chuan to get through to me. I can let the first pass, but the latter—" Bei Sangyun’s eyes flashed, "—has crossed the line."
Lin Sunji stepped back as Bei Sangyun’s ominous voice sent shivers down her spine.
Bei Sangyun smiled at her, but the smile did not reach her eyes. "I clearly gave you a chance last time. But you wasted it. Don’t blame me for what happens next."
Lin Sunji met Bei Sangyun’s cold gaze. Those eyes looked calm but deep and dark, as if Bei Sangyun was looking at a dead person.
Lin Sunji stiffened. ’What will happen next? What does she mean by that?’
Bei Sangyun turned around and walked away.
Lin Sunji remained rooted in her spot, only after a while she realized that Bei Sangyun had gone. She felt her knees weaken, and she swayed a bit.
That bitch... how did she become so frightening?
