Chapter 414: Why are you anxious

"I’m not doubting you; I’ve always believed in you. But there are many bad people in this world who will take advantage of young people like you." Grandma Bei held her hand and cautiously asked, "Tell me honestly, are you involved with anyone in deep waters, doing things for them in exchange?" Grandma Bei asked worriedly.

Bei Sangyun blinked.

It took her a moment to realize what Grandma Bei meant.

She laughed. "Grandma, what kind of movies have you been watching? I’m not involved in anything like that."

Grandma Bei eyed her suspiciously. "... Really?"

"Yes, Grandma. I’m not doing anything illegal, nor am I involved with those kinds of people." Bei Sangyun hugged her arm and leaned on her. "I’m just really good at what I do."

Grandma Bei finally relaxed. She patted Bei Sangyun lovingly. "My granddaughter is truly amazing. Just being yourself is enough, yet you’ve done such unbelievable things and taken on many responsibilities despite your young age. I can’t believe someone as incredible as you came from my own bloodline."

Grandma Bei looked at her affectionately. "But my dear, in my eyes, you are always my beloved child. You don’t have to carry those burdens. All I wish for you is to be healthy and happy. I’m really happy and grateful that you’re my grandchild. I am so proud of you."

Bei Sangyun felt Grandma Bei’s sincerity in each word. The yearning she had carried over the long years of separation burst forth at this moment. She hugged her and nestled in her arms, trying to hide the tears that were about to fall.

"...I am also happy and thankful that you’re my grandma."

She wasn’t grateful to her so-called mother. But if there was one thing she had to thank her for, it was leaving her in Grandma Bei’s care.

At least, in her life—this one and the last—she knew she had once been loved.

...

Meeting Grandma Bei again made Bei Sangyun feel like she was back home. She realized that no matter the place, as long as the people she cared for were there, it would feel like home.

The only thing missing was Fei Chuan—and the others.

Bei Sangyun wanted to go home soon, but she didn’t rush Grandma Bei. Instead, she asked if there was anywhere she wanted to visit.

Grandma Bei had been hearing a lot of recommendations from the nurses and doctors back when she was staying in the hospital. She even made a list and started visiting them one by one after she recovered. However, she had only visited places close to home.

Now that Bei Sangyun was here, Grandma Bei wanted to visit those great places that were a bit farther away but had amazing scenery.

Of course, Bei Sangyun agreed.

Before leaving the house, Bei Sangyun checked her phone again, but there was still no message from Fei Chuan. When she tried to call him, his phone was off.

Bei Sangyun started to worry. It would have been fine if this had only happened once, but the entire day had almost passed, and she hadn’t heard a thing from Fei Chuan.

They had promised to call each other daily, and Fei Chuan wasn’t the type to break such promises.

She called Grandma Pei again.

It took longer than usual for Grandma Pei to answer.

"Grandma, is everything alright there?" Bei Sangyun asked as soon as the call was answered.

There was a pause on the other end. Bei Sangyun thought she hadn’t been heard, so she repeated, "Grandma? Can you hear me?"

"...Yes, Sangyun, my dear... I can hear you... actually, today is not a good day—"

"Are you ready? You should bring a thicker jacket." Grandma Bei had entered the car. Guard Huang sat in the passenger seat, and the driver they hired had already started the engine.

Grandma Bei and the others glanced in her direction.

Bei Sangyun nodded at them and began walking toward the car while still talking on the phone.

"What is it, Grandma Pei?" she asked again. The reception was a bit poor, and Grandma Pei’s voice was unclear.

"...It’s nothing. The Young Master can’t talk right now. But once he can, he’ll call you back. He’ll... be fine."

The call then cut off. Bei Sangyun frowned. Because of the poor signal, she only caught portions of Grandma Pei’s words.

What does she mean that Fei Chuan can’t talk right now? Was he still busy?

But no matter how busy Fei Chuan was, he wouldn’t just ignore her calls.

Had something happened?

Bei Sangyun messaged Fei Chuan again, asking him to call her as soon as he saw her message. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Throughout the journey, Bei Sangyun couldn’t focus. Her thoughts kept drifting back to Fei Chuan and the situation in Country C.

Did the Fei family manage to find their house? Did they try to take Fei Chuan while she wasn’t there?

Or was it the Lin family bothering him? Or maybe it was those people he worked with who were causing trouble?

She had so many thoughts swirling in her mind that Grandma Bei noticed her silence.

"Are you tired? How about we go back to the house and rest first, then head out tomorrow?"

Bei Sangyun snapped out of her thoughts. She shook her head with a smile. "I’m not tired, Grandma. Which place do you want to go to first?"

Bei Sangyun smiled the whole time, trying not to worry Grandma Bei. She did her best to focus on Grandma Bei and enjoy the day.

They visited two places in a row, with each one getting farther and more remote as they traveled.

The snow was getting heavier, and by nightfall, a blizzard arrived, making the drive back home too difficult. So Bei Sangyun booked a hotel for the night. The driver and Guard Huang had their own rooms, while she and Grandma Bei stayed together.

While Grandma Bei was in the bathroom, Bei Sangyun checked her phone again. There was still no call back from Fei Chuan.

Bei Sangyun sensed something was wrong. This time, instead of calling Grandma Pei, she contacted Maid Ye Zhai. It was better to get information from her own people; at least they wouldn’t lie to her.

It was hard to get a signal, but after trying for half an hour, the call finally went through. Maid Ye Zhai answered.

"Is everything okay at the house?" Bei Sangyun asked anxiously as soon as the call was answered.

"Y-young M-miss..." Maid Ye Zhai greeted her, but her voice was unclear due to the poor signal.

"Yes, it’s me. How is the situation there? Do you know what’s going on with Fei Chuan? I can’t get a hold of him."

"...Not... okay. He is... -his room. Doctor Jang-... -take... -lost... -blood..."

Bei Sangyun struggled to understand her words. "Ye Zhai, I can’t hear you well. Slow down."

"...Miss... not good—" Toot. Toot.

The call was abruptly cut off. Bei Sangyun called back again, her heart anxious. The only words she clearly understood were "not good."

Could something really have happened at the villa?

But then the operator’s voice came on, reminding her that there would be disturbances and poor connection.

Bei Sangyun tried multiple times, but all she heard was the operator’s voice.

There was no signal on her phone. Without waiting for Grandma Bei to come out of the bathroom, she hurried to the lobby.

"Excuse me, can I use the telephone?" she asked the receptionist.

"I’m sorry, Ma’am, but there’s no signal right now due to the blizzard," the receptionist replied, gesturing outside.

Through the transparent glass window, Bei Sangyun could see the heavy snowfall. The storm had indeed come, and it seemed they were currently at the center of it.

"How long before this blizzard passes?"

"Usually, the blizzards around here last for about half a day. It should ease up by tomorrow morning, and we can restore the signal then."

Tomorrow morning...

Bei Sangyun glanced outside. She desperately wanted to know the situation and return as soon as possible, but there was no fighting this blizzard. The only option was to wait until morning.

She went back upstairs just in time for Grandma Bei to finish bathing and changing clothes. Seeing Grandma Bei’s warm smile, Bei Sangyun suppressed her anxiety and worries.

However, even though she hid her concerns behind laughter and silly jokes, Grandma Bei was still able to sense her unease.

It was deep in the night. The clock showed that it was past midnight, but Bei Sangyun hadn’t fallen asleep. She lay there, staring at the ceiling with a worried look on her face.

Now that it was dark and quiet, she finally let down her guard, revealing the anxiety that had been gnawing at her all day.

"What has you so worried?" Grandma Bei suddenly asked beside her.

Bei Sangyun was taken aback. She turned to see Grandma Bei staring at her. "...I thought you had fallen asleep."

"How could I sleep when my child has a heavy heart and is hiding it from me, even though I’m literally right beside you? I told you, my dear, that you don’t have to carry any burdens. Especially not in front of me. Be a child, be as immature as you want. Show your worries, share your troubles with me. I’m your grandma—you can rely on me and lean on me, not someone you have to protect and only show strength to."

Grandma Bei held her hand, her voice soothing her uneasy heart. "So tell me, why are you so anxious today?"
