Chapter 540: Chapter 540 Mysterious Fire_1

"Who’s there?"

The ink-black night settled in. Tang Heng, staggering down from Golden Lotus Peak, suddenly spotted a figure standing on the path ahead.

He was seriously injured; if someone decided to cause him trouble now, he would be doomed.

SQUEAK SQUEAK.

The shadowy figure didn’t answer, instead making a sound like a mouse. Then, its feet abruptly left the ground.

WHOOSH!

It drifted toward him!

"Get away from me!"

Tang Heng barely managed to summon a thread of energy, pushing his hand toward the shadow. A look of astonishment instantly appeared on his face.

His hand passed right through it—the shadow wasn’t a physical entity!

WHOOSH!

The shadow immediately enveloped Tang Heng, transforming into wisps of black qi that seeped into his every pore. At first, Tang Heng was able to struggle a little, but he quickly fell still. The only sound was the cracking of his bones from within his body.

CRACK!

His head suddenly snapped around, twisting a full one hundred and eighty degrees before twisting back.

TAP. TAP.

Tang Heng started walking down from Golden Lotus Peak once again. His gaze was vacant, as if he had become a completely different person...

Ning Wan was in her bed. Ying Lan had handpicked the room for her; it was clean and cozy, with several potted plants in the corner bursting with colorful, delightful blossoms.

But Ning Wan’s eyes were wide open, staring unblinkingly at the ceiling. She looked just like a corpse.

CREAK!

A hand suddenly pushed open the window, and a pair of feet stepped inside without a sound.

"Miss Ning."

The intruder was Su Xuan. He stood by her bed and called out softly, but Ning Wan didn’t react. She was like a robot that hadn’t been switched on.

Su Xuan scanned Ning Wan with his extraordinary vision and found that her vital signs were normal. However, her appearance suggested that her consciousness had been controlled or sealed.

After observing her for a moment, Su Xuan brought two fingers together and placed them on her brow. He had already discerned that she was afflicted with a technique similar to the Mind Control Technique, but it definitely wasn’t it.

HISS... HISS...

A wisp of black qi began to seep from between her eyebrows, yet Ning Wan still didn’t wake.

"Seal!"

Su Xuan suddenly raised his other hand and pressed down. A ripple, visible to the naked eye, spread out and enveloped the entire room. This was a sealing technique he had learned at the Enlightenment Pavilion. It could seal a space to prevent any voice, aura, or cultivation fluctuations from escaping. However, sounds from outside could still get in.

Then, Su Xuan’s body suddenly erupted with the cultivation fluctuations of the Longevity Latter Stage Great Completion. Yes, in his last two days at the Enlightenment Pavilion, he hadn’t reviewed any more secret manuals. Instead, he had raised his cultivation by another level.

As his power burst forth, a large amount of black qi dispersed from Ning Wan’s brow.

PHEW!

A long moment later, Ning Wan suddenly exhaled, blinking her beautiful eyes for the first time in what felt like an eternity. A tear slid from the corner of her eye. This wasn’t because she was sad, but because her eyes were simply too sore.

"Feng Zhengyuan!"

She saw the man standing beside her, but perhaps because his cultivation realm was now so far beyond hers, she didn’t realize this "Feng Zhengyuan" was actually Su Xuan.

"It’s me," Su Xuan said, seeing no reason to hide the truth, nor was he in the mood for games. He spoke in his real voice, "What on earth happened to you?"

"Young Master Su!" Upon hearing his voice, Ning Wan grew frantic. She gripped his hand tightly and whispered, "It’s terrible! He made his move against me!"

The "he" she referred to was, of course, Ning Zhendao.

"Did you try to get revenge yourself?" Su Xuan asked.

"No, I’m no match for him. Attacking him on my own would be suicide!" Ning Wan shook her head. "I don’t know what happened. A few days ago, he barged into my room and did something to me. After that, it was like I was in a dream, just following him everywhere... It felt like I knew what I was doing, but at the same time, I didn’t..."

A lost look filled her eyes.

Su Xuan interjected, "When I saw him this time, he had a terrifying aura about him, completely different from before. Do you remember him doing anything unusual along the way?"

Ning Wan shook her head. Then she said urgently, "Young Master Su, never mind what he did. He’s away from Hua Shui City right now. It’s the perfect time to kill him! Help me!"

Su Xuan said gravely, "Miss Ning, you’ve helped me in the past, and I genuinely want to return the favor. However, I’m swamped with my own troubles right now and can’t afford any distractions. Besides..."

"Besides what?" Ning Wan asked, her gaze fixed on Su Xuan’s face, her hand still gripping his tightly.

"I’m not confident I can kill him," Su Xuan said, and his expression showed he wasn’t lying.

"You have to be lying!" Ning Wan became agitated. "Didn’t you just release the power of the Longevity Latter Stage Great Completion? Do you know what that means? You’re one step away from the absolute pinnacle of the cultivation world, a level beyond mere mortals! And you’re telling me you can’t kill him?" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"I’m not lying," Su Xuan replied. "My intuition tells me I can’t kill him."

"And my intuition tells me you don’t *want* to help me!" Ning Wan retorted. She snatched her hand away and turned her head aside, but then she suddenly threw her arms around Su Xuan, hugging him tightly. "Help me, and I’ll be yours. Even if you don’t marry me, I’ll serve you for the rest of my life. I’ll do anything you ask!"

She added, "I can give myself to you right now! You would be my first."

Su Xuan’s mouth twitched. "You’re treating this like a game, aren’t you?"

Tears streamed down Ning Wan’s face, but she choked back her sobs. "Vengeance for my father is no game. And... and I don’t dislike you... D-do you not want me?"

"I..."

Just as Su Xuan was about to speak, an unexpected system notification sounded in his mind.

"Ding! Congratulations to the Host for acquiring one Nine-Turn Furnace Cauldron!"

"Ding! Awarding the Host the Daoist Art ’Undying Golden Body,’ automatically upgraded to the maximum level!"

"Ding! Stage Three mission progress: 6/10."

Immediately, a brilliant golden light erupted from Su Xuan’s body. An incredibly heavy and domineering aura radiated from him, forcefully repelling Ning Wan.

"You..." Ning Wan stared at him in shock. "What did you just do? Why do you feel like a completely different person?"

She could feel an overwhelming life force radiating from him! It was as if he were an immortal being, destined never to die!

Su Xuan himself was just as bewildered and couldn’t answer her.

A Furnace Cauldron? How had he suddenly obtained a Furnace Cauldron? Was Ning Wan a Furnace Cauldron? He hadn’t said anything about taking her as one! Had the system made the decision for him?

Just then, flames shot into the sky outside. People started shouting, "Fire! Fire!"

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Someone began pounding on Ning Wan’s door as Ying Lan’s voice called out from outside.

"Miss Ning! Miss Ning! Your father’s room is on fire! You have to go see!"

Su Xuan and Ning Wan exchanged a glance, both of their faces etched with disbelief.
