Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream-Chapter 43: Regret
"Is that a nail mark, Amanda?" Kyle asked with a frown, pointing beneath her collar.
She quickly covered it and said, "Got a scratch this morning. Don’t worry, it’s nothing."
Kyle frowned. The heaviness in his chest only grew.
Back then, he believed she was cheating on him, having an affair with Ethan. That was why she had become so secretive about almost everything.
When she didn’t respond to his messages late at night. When she came to classes late. When she tried covering her body and refused to get intimate, he thought she was distancing herself from him.
He was wrong. So, so wrong.
"No... man... no, no, no." Shaking his head, Kyle got up from the bed.
He had been thinking about it for some time now.
Everything that had changed over these past few months.
It wasn’t that she was spending time with someone else or that she didn’t love him anymore.
Her eyes weren’t lying. Whenever he looked at her, even during these past six months, he saw nothing but utter love and a trace of guilt in them. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
She never stopped loving him. She had simply been cornered by her circumstances and forced by Ethan to take more jobs, jobs that kept them apart.
"So... it’s true. That girl I saw back then..."
Through his exhausted eyes, he faintly recalled seeing a black-haired girl approaching the construction site earlier, just before the building collapsed.
So it had been Amanda.
And somehow, she must have sensed it was him. That was why she had come all the way there to check on him.
She was worried about him, even after he had said such hateful things to her.
[Host, please calm yourself down. This wasn’t your fault.]
The system suddenly spoke, drawing his attention to the screen.
[In your position, anyone would have drawn the same conclusion. And it’s not Miss Amanda’s fault either that she suddenly grew so distant from you. It was recorded that over the past six months, the appearance of the rift has become more frequent.]
Kyle let out a sigh and slumped into the chair. Right, he wasn’t entirely wrong to doubt her. She couldn’t tell him the real reason behind all those lies.
But he shouldn’t have been so cruel with his words when he pushed her away.
Agh, the thought of it made him feel disgusted with himself.
Every part of him wanted to call her right now and fix everything, but...
"Telling her about my awakening over a call seems risky."
[Indeed, it is, host. Things like these must be communicated face to face.]
But how could he talk to her? During classes, she arrived late and left immediately after they ended. Sometimes she even skipped a few lectures. Now he understood why all four of them, Hannah, Clara, Ethan, and Amanda, usually left the college altogether. The other two must be Nightwalkers as well.
’Then when can I talk to her?’
[Should I give a suggestion, host? How about during the upcoming trip?]
Kyle jerked slightly. "Right..." The college trip. He would get plenty of chances to be alone with Amanda. And being away from the city meant they wouldn’t be tracked as easily.
Perfect. He just needed to wait four more days before he could finally clear all the misunderstandings... and then...
’Then what...’ Could they forget everything that had happened? Could she forgive him for what he said and get back together with him?
Kyle didn’t want to think about that right now. Instead, he found himself looking forward to the trip more and more.
"I should take a bath..." Taking a deep breath, he stood up, deciding to wash away the fatigue and blood from his body.
He would also need to visit his brother early in the morning and feed him the potion somehow. He had already prepared an excuse for his parents in case they saw him that early. Even if they grew suspicious, in the end they would probably assume he was simply itching to skip classes.
After taking a pair of shorts and an oversized white T-shirt from the closet, he entered the bathroom.
Slowly, he removed his clothes, careful not to let the fabric brush harshly against his wounds.
The bandages Veronica had wrapped around his shoulder and knee would be ruined, but right now he needed a warm bath. He would dress the injuries himself afterward.
HISSS
As he turned the knob, steaming warm water poured over his back.
"Haaa..." A relieved sigh escaped his lips as he lowered his head and pressed his hands against the wall.
It had been a hectic day. From hunting majins to facing a ghoul, destroying a building worth millions of lumir, and then the revelation of the truth.
Ever since he had awakened the God’s Eye, he had been living every minute of the day consciously. It felt as if, for him, a single day had stretched into thirty hours.
He took his time washing away the fatigue, both mental and physical, before finally stepping out and thoroughly wiping himself dry. He couldn’t leave the floor wet.
As he dressed, the system asked,
[Host, what are your plans now?]
Kyle hummed in confusion. "It’s close to ten... I will probably eat something and sleep." He couldn’t understand why the system was asking. It couldn’t be because of the daily quest, since he had already completed it in the afternoon.
There was a brief pause before the system finally spoke again.
[Host... umm... are you not forgetting something?]
Kyle thought for a moment. Then a helpless smile formed on his lips.
Without saying anything, he finished putting on his clothes, picked up his face mask, and sat down in front of his PC.
Booting the system, he opened the livestreaming platform and toggled the Live button.
How could he forget? He had a few friends there with whom he could talk about his problems and simply hang out.
