Chapter 6: The Gift

Now, what exactly can Kyle say to these people whom he doesn’t know?

He has been talking to them almost every day for the past six months so they more or less know about his life...about Amanda.

But the matter of fact is, despite how unfamiliar, they were the only people who actually were worried about him.

His own parents were just seeing disappointment in him, someone they saw as a failure, but never tried to talk to him about what exactly was wrong with his life.

They had always been so busy comparing him with his elder brother and upholding the family’s name that they never actually considered that Kyle might be getting crushed under their expectations.

Exhaling a sigh, he began, "What...would the point tell you all about my problems?"

One-eyed: [Did we ever think twice about sharing our problem?]

Kyle pursed his lips...right, they trusted him enough to share their personal problems.

Myuri: [Don’t treat us like strangers, Kyle. You have always found a solution to our troubles. Just this time, trust us.]

The young man leaned in his chair and looked at the ceiling, "It’s nothing too big, and might not be regarded as a problem by a grown person. You know, the usual cliche, average in studies, average in innovation, never achieved anything significant on my own, unemployed, and a grim future."

Exhaled a sigh, he added, "Now that I think about it, I have been nothing but a burden to everyone. First my parents and now Amanda. She must have realized that I have no future with how I have always done things...that’s why, she left me."

Ethara: [She left you? Someone like Kyle could also be abandoned?]

Tharos: [She is brain dead.]

Kyle chuckled, "Well, I kind of dumped her, but I am sure if I hadn’t, she would have in a few days."

WarHorse: [Huff! What does she think of herself? Because you are going through a tough time, she considered you a failure?]

"Aren’t I?" He asked, a defeated smile on his face, "I tried doing so many things at once that I just landed face flat and lost everything."

Taking a deep breath, he added, "I probably would be discarded by my parents. My grades are falling. My debts are piling and I don’t know how I will survive tomorrow if I don’t get any more allowance from my brother. I am just...stuck in a pit. And the funny part is, no one has pushed me here. I have jumped into it with a foolish look on my face."

He was..venting.

He was pouring his anger. Anger not towards his parents. Not his brother. Not even Amanda. But himself.

He made so many wrong decisions in these few months that his current condition felt natural.

Silence ensued from his side and on the chat too.

Just then, a message popped up,

One-eyed: [I believe you need a different perception of the world to begin again.]

Kyle hummed, "Was that supposed to hold a deeper meaning?"

One-eyed: [No, Kyle. I meant what I said. Now, would you mind taking that parcel from your left drawer?]

He frowned, "What do you mean by that?" As he said, he instinctively reached for the left drawer.

Upon pulling it, he found something that shouldn’t be there.

"Huh?" There was a brown box resting there even though when he was cleaning his room earlier, he kept this drawer empty.

Then...how?

One-eyed: [That’s a gift from me, Kyle. Open it and see if that changes things.]

Kyle instantly said, "No, wait! How did you know there was something in my drawer? Did you put it here?"

His questions weren’t answered as everyone had logged off the chat; leaving him alone on the stream.

Kyle felt a chill running down his spine as he cautiously kept the box on the side.

How...did that person know there was something in his drawer? Considering a wild possibility that the camera moved toward the drawer when it was slightly parted and One-eyed saw it...how in the world did that box appear in his room in the first place?

Did his mother leave it here and he missed noticing it earlier?

There can’t be, since he emptied the drawer carefully, since he was going to put the computer parts in it later, after the stream.

So...what in the hell?

A creepy realisation crept its way up his spine.

Was One-eyed a stalker?

"Gah...I always thought he was an old man...wait, if he really is and still stalking me?!"

He removed himself from the seat and turned off the camera before looking around.

Were there cameras in the room too?

He couldn’t tell.

Carefully, he looked around as his feet moved toward the left.

Extending his hand, he grabbed a bat from the corner and advanced slowly towards his wardrobe.

What if that man was still in the room?

Taking a strong gulp, he rested his fingers on the wardrobe handle.

A moment later, he finally opened it and raised the bat at the very instance.

"Fue..." There was nothing inside.

He then checked under his bed and a few more places where someone could hide.

Fortunately, the wild possibility was proven wrong.

"Haa." Exhaling a sigh, he plopped on the chair and calmed his breath.

As he did so, his eyes landed on the box.

What...exactly could be in there?

A prank?

A letter?

Maybe a bomb?

Was he overthinking?

"Well, screw it." He got up and picked the box. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Taking another deep breath, he slowly lifted the cover—and in the next second,

"AHHHHH!"

His eyes were attacked.

Something was eating his eyes!
