Chapter 38: Chapter 38: School life

As the days went by, Lyra found herself growing more and more comfortable with Phoenix's presence at school. He was charming and witty, always ready with a clever quip or a sympathetic ear.

But despite her growing friendship with Phoenix, Lyra's heart belonged to Kael. She loved the way he made her laugh, the way he always knew how to make her feel better when she was down.

As they walked to their next class, Kael slipped his arm around Lyra's shoulders, pulling her close. "Hey, what's up?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.

Lyra smiled, feeling a flutter in her chest. "Not much, just trying to survive another day of school."

Kael chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I feel you. But at least we have each other."

Lyra nodded, feeling grateful for Kael's presence in her life. She knew that she could always count on him, no matter what.

As they entered their classroom, Elian and Zain were already seated, chatting with each other. Elian was grinning at Zain, his eyes shining with adoration.

Zain rolled her eyes good-naturedly, but Lyra could see the happiness in her eyes. She was thrilled to see her friends so in love.

Phoenix, meanwhile, was sitting by himself, looking a bit out of place. Lyra felt a pang of sympathy for him, knowing how hard it could be to start at a new school.

She made a mental note to try to include him more in their group activities, to help him feel more at home.

As the class began, Lyra found herself zoning out, thinking about Phoenix and his mysterious past. What had brought him to their school? And what secrets was he hiding?

She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't even notice when Kael passed her a note, until he nudged her gently.

Lyra looked down, seeing that the note was from Kael. "Meet me at lunch?" it read.

Lyra smiled, feeling a flutter in her chest. She nodded, passing the note back to Kael.

As the class ended, Lyra gathered her things, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. What would the rest of the day bring?
