Stolen By My Billionaire Brother-In-Law-Chapter 90: Brewing Storm
"Anna!" Leonora’s voice echoed through the hall, drawing everyone’s attention to Rubina as she reached Rivana.
For a moment, confusion filled the room. Then gasps broke out as realization dawned—Rubina could see. The shock of her sudden attack on Rivana was only rivaled by the revelation that she had finally removed her blind mask.
Rivana had little time to react, her senses heightened as Rubina closed the gap between them, aiming the knife at her stomach.
Someone grabbed Rubina’s wrist before it could reach her, stopping it just inches away. Rivana stepped back, her eyes widening as they landed on Callum.
Callum held Rubina’s wrist firmly, his grip unyielding. Rubina’s eyes widened in shock, not expecting him to be so quick. She struggled to free herself, but despite his seemingly effortless hold, she couldn’t budge. His furious glare made her tremble.
"Ahh," Rubina cried out as Callum twisted her wrist, forcing the knife to clatter to the ground.
Rivana sighed in relief, grateful that he wasn’t hurt. On the other hand, Leonora stared at him with her mouth wide open in surprise. Her eyes sparkled, and for a moment, it felt as though a bright light appeared behind Callum. He was so quick and professional that she was completely blown away.
"Who put the knife here?!" Gianna demanded angrily, glaring at the maids and then at the butler.
Leonora snapped out of her thoughts at Gianna’s voice. Shaking her head, she quickly closed her mouth, cursing herself inwardly for being so distracted.
"Sorry, Ma’am!" George hurried forward, picking up the knife hastily. "Ms. Amerie wanted to cut apples herself for Rubina. So the maids brought over the fruits and knife."
Everyone turned to Amerie, who looked just as confused. When had that happened? She glanced at the butler and decided to play along, realizing the distraction had shifted Rivana’s focus away from asking about her mother.
"Oh, I am so sorry," Amerie murmured. She quickly moved to Rubina, who was trembling in terror. Holding her gently, she tried to lead her away, but Callum didn’t let go of her wrist.
His piercing gaze bore into the mother-daughter duo. "Don’t try anything funny again. She’s not alone now, and your tricks won’t work on her," he warned. He had heard enough horror stories about how Rivana had been treated by them all these years. But now, with him and her friends by her side, they couldn’t harm her anymore.
"We understand," Amerie replied, glancing at Rivana and then back at Callum. "We won’t go near her again. I promise."
"Good," Callum murmured. He released Rubina’s wrist, and she stumbled slightly, tears spilling down her cheeks. She massaged her wrist, now red and aching.
"Come," Amerie said, grabbing Rubina and dragging her upstairs to her room. Everyone watched them leave, and Butler Chase sighed inwardly.
Amerie knew things that Gianna didn’t, and no one else had any idea about it except for him. The woman would never open her mouth—it would only drag her deeper into the dirt. He just hoped Rivana’s friends didn’t find her suspicious. She had acted well so far.
Callum turned to Rivana. "Let’s leave," he said.
Rivana heaved a sigh and nodded. As they turned to leave, Gianna grabbed her son and dragged him toward the study. If Rivana was using something to blackmail him, they needed to find and destroy it before she took complete control over the Fayes.
Butler Chase watched everyone disperse and sighed again, knowing things would only get messier in the future. It was the perfect time for him to retire and avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
As they walked outside, Leonora cleared her throat. "Is your hand okay?" she asked.
Callum turned to her, a little surprised that she was finally addressing him. He rolled his wrist casually and nodded.
Leonora nodded back, and they reached their cars. She hugged Rivana and murmured, "Mom changed plans and is coming back tomorrow. You know things are gonna get hectic for me."
Rivana nodded. Leonora’s mother was strict and determined to make her the next big name in the fashion industry. Poor Leonora barely had time for herself, constantly pulled into all sorts of activities.
"But don’t think you escaped," Rivana reminded her. She glanced at Callum and added, "We’ll FaceTime tonight once I return from the office."
Leonora’s face turned bright red. She nodded quickly and ran toward her car. Rivana smiled as she watched her go, then got into her car with Callum. They headed toward Faye Corporations, Rivana already planning to visit her company, Shadow Inc., later in the day. It was going to be a hectic day.
Amerie watched the cars leave one by one out of the mansion. She sighed in relief, grateful that the storm had been put on hold for now.
A few years after Rivana was brought into the Faye family, Amerie had somehow pieced together the girl’s true identity. Her curiosity had gotten the worse of her, and she had stumbled upon something forbidden.
Butler Chase, who was brought into the household by Margaret, had also realized that Amerie knew more than she should. But both of them stayed silent, pretending to have missed it. Now the truths hidden for years seemed to be coming to light and she had to secure Rubina’s future before that happened.
She turned around to Rubina, who was seated on the edge of the bed, her tears unstoppable. The sight made Amerie’s heart ache. She walked over to her and tried to comfort her little princess.
"Ruby—"
"Don’t touch me!" Rubina snapped, pushing her away. Her glare was sharp, filled with disgust. "I will never be your daughter!"
Amerie recoiled from the push, her chest tightening painfully. Despite everything she had done for Rubina over the years, being treated like this by her child stung deeply. Her lips trembled as she fought to keep her emotions in check.
"I-I will go to Brother Rafaelo! He...he will convince his mother to adopt me!" Rubina babbled, her voice cracking with fear as the thought of her situation becoming public consumed her. She stood abruptly, heading for the door. "He will help me out!"
"No, Ruby! Listen to me!" Amerie called after her, desperation thick in her voice. She reached out to grab Rubina’s arm, but when the younger woman fought back, frustration boiled over.
"Leave me!" Rubina shouted, trying to wrest herself free.
Amerie’s patience snapped, and she slapped Rubina. The sound echoed loudly in the room. Rubina froze, her hand flying to her cheek as she stared at Amerie in shock. Did this filthy woman just slap her?
"What?" Amerie retorted, her voice cutting through the silence. "I have been nice all these years since you were young. But enough with your tantrums, Rubina. Like it or not, I am your mother, and you will listen to me from today." Crossing her arms, she added firmly, "Do you get that? You better!"
Without waiting for a response, Amerie turned and walked toward the door. Before leaving, she glanced back and sighed seeing Rubina standing motionless, like a statue. She would do anything to save Rubina from this mess, even if it meant meeting that devil woman and making a deal.
