Stolen by the Beastly Lycan King-Chapter 79: Born of Necessity
Chapter 79: Born of Necessity
The creation of ghouls was a dark tale rooted in desperation and ingenuity, a reflection of the unyielding will to survive even in the face of annihilation. Their existence, a stark contrast to that of vampires, painted a chilling picture of creatures born not of nature but of necessity.
For centuries, vampires were the apex predators of the night, their reign almost undisputed.
To create another of their kind, a vampire's bite was enough—a single puncture of their fangs delivered the curse of immortality and bloodlust.
Ghouls, however, were a different matter entirely.
They were not bitten into existence but birthed through grotesque alchemy. Unlike vampires, whose transformation granted eternal allure and power, ghouls were once mindless monstrosities, their flesh rotting as they feasted on the dead.
While vampires were predators, ghouls were scavengers, lurking in shadows and haunting graveyards, their intelligence little more than that of feral beasts.
For a long time, ghouls were dismissed as an incomplete species—an aberration rather than a creation. They lacked the elegance of vampires, the charm that could beguile prey. But this began to change when the vampires faced their darkest days.
The Holy Temple, overseen by humans, declared war on the Children of the Night, branding them abominations against divine law. With the blessing of their gods, human hunters rose in unprecedented numbers, armed with holy relics, sunlight-forged blades, and unyielding faith.
The vampire population dwindled alarmingly, and their once-thriving courts were reduced to nothing but ashes of the past.
In their desperation, the vampire elders devised a horrifying solution. If humanity's attention could not be diverted, they would create a new deception.
Ghouls would be transformed—not merely as decoys, but as pawns capable of walking among humans, of luring hunters into false pursuits. To achieve this, vampires began a series of heinous experiments.
They targeted the most vulnerable: human children. Innocents were stolen from their cradles and villages under the cover of darkness. These children were fed the organs of ghouls—raw, tainted flesh that carried the essence of the creatures.
Many could not survive, their bodies unable to withstand the corruption. Those who survived the ordeal became grotesque amalgamations, their forms twisted and minds barely functioning. Failure followed failure, but the vampires pressed on, their desperation acting akin to a cruel master.
It wasn't until decades of trials later that they achieved their ghastly breakthrough. One child, a girl no older than twelve, emerged from the transformation not as a mindless beast but as an intelligent ghoul. She retained her human appearance, albeit pale and gaunt, and displayed a cunning intellect. Her body bore the strength of ghouls, her mind sharpened by a predator's instincts. In her, the vampires found their template.

Unfortunately, they still did not know that that girl had a dark secret which helped her survive the experiment.
But from that moment on, ghouls were no longer mere monsters.
Vampires perfected the process, using the girl as the source of power, crafting intelligent creatures who could infiltrate human society, manipulate, and deceive.
Humanity's hunters, once so fixated on vampires, became entangled in battles against these new foes. The distraction gave vampires the time they needed to rebuild their numbers, cloaking themselves in shadow as their creations walked among the unsuspecting.

Lorelai was not invited to the last Royal Council meeting but she had to admit that it was for the best. An entire day had passed since her last feverish encounter with King Rhaegar, but her body was still shattered.
It did not help that all her dresses could not conceal the bite marks left by the man with his sharp teeth and she had to pretend to be sick, remaining locked up in her chambers, buried in blankets and sheets.
Thankfully, Marquess Frederick Galeran had attended the meeting and returned to the princess with a comprehensive summary.
"The incident during the gladiator fight caused quite an uproar in the capital," he began as he took a seat next to Lorelai's bed. "Not only did it scare our foreign guests, but it also alarmed a lot of the noblemen. Duke Kadler's actions were heavily condemned."
"Good," Lorelai nodded, smiling lightly. "It is just as I expected––the nobility needs someone to blame for such a horrible incident and Duke Kadler is a perfect scapegoat. Now, according to them, he coaxed the foreign royalty to fight a slave, which is already quite a hideous maneuver, but he also subjected the rest of us to danger. The consequences of his action will only be snowballing after that."
Frederick nodded too, confirming her words.
"Indeed, he has faced a lot of backlash from the nobles, scarred by the events. Additionally, the Royal Council along with the foreign delegations are now afraid that the beasts will retaliate, paying back for the humiliation their king had to face that day."
Lorelai let out a long sigh. Yes, she was afraid of that too. The beasts were a proud nation, they never tolerated any unjust treatment from anyone, and taking into consideration how brutal they could be, nothing short of real war could be expected.
'Rhaegar is strong and he is not afraid of shedding blood. Although no one wants to admit it, it goes without saying that the Beast Kingdom can easily annihilate us all; their army alone is far more powerful than that of any human kingdom. If he truly wants revenge, nothing will stop him now.'
She closed her eyes and tried to think rationally for a while. If she could play her cards right, perhaps she could come up with a solution that would fit the two of them. Both the princess and the king.
"Lord Frederick," Lorelai opened her eyes again and looked at the marquess with clear, bright eyes. "How is the situation with the slave traders right now?"
"Well, since King Rhaegar defeated the gladiator slave, as promised, all the beast slaves in Duke Kadler's possession were released. However, it did nothing to the underground trading, and those who are still with other nobles will remain enslaved."
Lorelai grinned unexpectedly mischievously as she looked at Marianna who had been sitting with them this whole time. "I need the two of you to run some errands for me."
