Stolen Identity: Mute Heiress-Chapter 201: Mean Abigail
Abigail had a big grin on her face as she lay on her soft bed, ready to sleep. The room was dark except for the little lamp beside her. The blanket was pulled up to her chest, but she still felt warm because her heart was beating so fast.
Her stomach did little flips every time she remembered the kiss in the car. She pressed her fingers to her lips and closed her eyes, feeling the memory again.
She wished she could have talked to him some more. She wished they could exchange texts but they had to be careful.
As if on cue her phone vibrated on the night stand and her heart jumped so high she thought it would fly out of her chest when she saw it was a WhatsApp text from him.
She snatched it up and her heart fluttered as she opened the message quickly.
Pete:> Are you still up? I enjoyed the ride with you.
She wanted to reply but she knew that it was possible Ryan had hacked her phone and would see the messages so she needed to keep acting a bit indifferent.
She ignored the message, hoping that he would send more messages since his message had shown delivered and he knew she had read it.
She lay there, staring at the ceiling as she held her phone close. She counted her breaths as she waited for another message.
When it vibrated again she grinned. The content of the text didn’t matter to her. All that mattered was that she was communicating with Jamal. It made her heart feel hot and soft all at once.
Pete:> Are you ignoring me this way because I’m a mere driver and you feel I’m beneath you?
Abigail let out a tiny giggle. She pressed her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing out loud.
A mere driver indeed.
She still didn’t reply. She wanted to see what else he would write.
She tucked the blanket under her chin and stared at the phone.
Her stomach squeezed tight when it buzzed again.
Pete:> Give me a chance, Abigail. Let’s be friends. I promise I’m not a gold digger. I’m not after you because of your family’s wealth. I just feel really drawn to you.
Abigail bit her bottom lip as she read his message and then she decided to respond.
Abigail:> Pete, we can’t be friends. We can’t be anything more than we are. You are going to lose your job if my father finds out about this. So, please stop all this. I do not want any problems for either of us.
She read her words twice. They looked cold. Cold enough and believable for Ryan if he was monitoring her texts. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Pete:> Your father won’t find out. We will be careful. Your sister is traveling soon, that means we get to spend a lot of time together alone at the office. Please think about it.
Abigail yawned, feeling sleepy now that she had heard from him again.
Abigail:> Goodnight, Pete.
She set her phone aside and pulled the blanket up to her nose. Her heart was still fluttering like little birds inside her chest.
She closed her eyes and smiled in the dark.
Sleep came slowly, but when it came, she dreamed about Jamal’s warm hand on her cheek, and the way he had looked at her when he kissed her.
The next morning Abigail went to Josh’s bedroom the moment she woke up, wanting to wake him and spend time with him before the nanny arrived.
She walked into his room and climbed onto the bed carefully so she didn’t wake him. She lay on her side and propped her head on her hand.
Her heart squeezed tight with love as she looked at his peaceful cute little face. She couldn’t believe that this perfect little boy was hers.
She lay there watching him, feeling peaceful and full of love. She reached out one hand and touched his soft eyebrows. Then she traced her finger down to his small nose.
When her thumb brushed over his lips, Josh let out a sleepy sigh.
Abigail smiled, kissing his face, "Wakie wakie, baby," she whispered.
His mouth moved like he was dreaming about something sweet. She felt warm all over, just looking at him.
Then, slowly, Josh’s eyes fluttered open. He blinked a few times. His brown eyes looked sleepy and soft.
His lips pulled into a small, happy smile when his gaze settled on her.
"I was dreaming of you, Mommy."
Abigail’s heart melted. She smiled back and brushed her hand over his soft hair.
"Good morning, baby," she said softly. "What did you dream about?"
Josh rubbed his eyes with his little fists. He yawned so big his mouth made a small popping sound when he closed it again.
"We were playing at an amusement park," he said in a sleepy voice as he scooted closer to her and put his hand on her cheek. His palm was warm and small.
"Is that your way of saying you want me to take you to an amusement park?" She asked with a little laugh.
Josh grinned, "Can we?"
Abigail nodded. "Of course. We can. And we will," Abigail said, already thinking of going with Josh and Jamal.
"I love you, Mommy," he said happily, kissing her cheek.
Abigail closed her eyes. Her chest felt tight because her heart was so full. She hugged him and kissed the top of his head.
"I love you more than anything," she whispered.
Josh pulled back just enough to look at her face. "I wish I didn’t have to go to school today. I want to talk to you all day."
Abigail laughed quietly. "Well, you have to go to school, and I have to go to work. But we will definitely talk at night when we get back."
Josh stared at her for a minute, giving her a funny look, and she raised a brow. "Do I have something funny on my face?" She asked, touching her face and wondering if her mask was askew.
"When Daddy and Genny argued, Genny said Daddy made you look different and why couldn’t she look different too instead of always wearing a stupid wig and lens. Did daddy make you look different?" Josh asked, and Abigail’s heart skipped a beat.
Just how much did Josh know? He seemed to know so much and was so good at keeping it all in for a little boy of his age.
"Your nanny will be here soon. I will tell you about it when we get back later in the day, okay?" She whispered, and he bobbed his head.
Abigail kissed his forehead and before they could speak further they heard footsteps outside the door.
Abigail signed to him. [I will leave your nanny to get you ready for school while I go get ready for work. What do you want for breakfast?]
"Pancakes," Josh said just as the nanny walked in.
[Alright. Love you.] Abigail signed before walking away.
She went downstairs first to inform the chef that Josh wanted pancakes. Her heart skipped a beat when she walked into the kitchen and saw Jamal there with a forlorn expression on his face.
She wanted to ask what was wrong, until it occurred to her that he was still pretending to be heartbroken.
[Good morning, love of my life.] he signed, and Abigail’s heart fluttered.
[Good morning, baby. When will you be done with this act?] she asked, while the kitchen staff ignored them as they went about it their activities.
[When you open up your heart to me, my love.] he signed, and Abigail stuck her tongue in her cheek.
[It’s open, baby. By the way did you get DNA result yet?] she asked when she remembered it.
Jamal nodded. [They’re not related. Also, she will be leaving this weekend to visit Stefan. He has invited her over and she has accepted. I think she plans to tell him the truth. She told him she’s coming in a blonde hair and blue eyes.]
"What are you both discussing?" The chef asked when she saw Abigail’s serious expression.
"Work. I’m giving her feedback on an assignment she gave me yesterday at the office," Jamal said and the chef shook her head.
"I forgot you work in the office too. Abigail you should give Pete a break. Have office discussions in the office. He’s not your secretary when he’s in the kitchen. Do not overwork him," the chef said, and Abigail nodded and typed on her text to speech app.
[I talk to Genny about work at home so why I can’t talk to Pete about work too? I did not ask him to apply to be driver and secretary. He is being overworked because of his greed. Anyway, I came to tell you I want pancakes for breakfast.]
Jamal winced as he listened to the message, and the chef shook her head at Abigail. "That’s not nice, Abi. You just hurt his feelings. He’s already heartbroken and you’re being mean."
Abigail turned to Jamal. [I love you, baby. Let’s talk more about Genny later. I need to get ready for work.]
[Did you come down to tempt me, though? You look hot in your sleeping dress and with your tousled hair.] Jamal signed back, winking discreetly.
Abigail looked down and realized too late that she had not even looked at the mirror or freshened up before leaving for Josh’s room and then down to hers.
Immediately she turned and fled. Jamal chuckled, unable to hold back.
