Chapter 1771: I’m Helping You Though?

“Do you think Taoist Gu will save Granny Tree?”

Ye Qing asked Feng Qingyou with his arms crossed and his lips curled into a sardonic smile.

Feng Qingyou replied without hesitation, “Taoist Gu is infamous for profiting from another’s misfortune. Do you think he would help her?”

Ye Qing chuckled. He was just asking for the sake of it. The answer was clear to everyone except the victim.

“Argh! Taoist Gu! What are you doing?”

It was at this moment Granny Tree let out a bloodcurdling scream. She sounded angry and shocked.

“This poor Taoist is rescuing you from the sea of bitterness, duh!”

The gu insects were currently clinging to the Ghost Locust and feeding on its tattered body.

Granny Tree tried to struggle with all her might, but she was already on her last legs. There was simply no way she could resist. The gu insects instantly chewed through the dark light protecting the Ghost Locust before they moved onto her true body.

“Argh! You betrayer! You’ll die a horrible death, Taoist Gu!” Granny Tree roared angrily.

“Why do you say that? To begin with, I never promised anything, did I?”

Taoist Gu’s garbled voice answered, “Besides, I am helping you!”

“See, you were moments away from being annihilated by the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder. It is a painful, horrible true death where your existence is wiped out completely. But if I eat you, not only will you have a painless death, you still have the opportunity to be reborn as a good person.”

“With all that said, I am helping you, am I not? Why can’t you understand my goodness! You’re hurting my bleeding heart, really!”

“Taoist Gu! You despicable bastard! You will die a horrible death!”

Granny Tree only grew angrier after listening to Taoist Gu’s ramblings.

“Sigh. This poor Taoist should have known that a tree like you wouldn’t have a heart. You simply do not understand what gratefulness and reciprocation is.”

Taoist Gu sighed. “I guess I have no choice but to grant you the true death you deserve!”

“Why must you people force this poor Taoist to kill? I’m a good man, you know? Just why?”

While Taoist Gu was muttering to himself, his gu insects had already eaten through the tree trunk and crawled inside.

“Mercy! Mercy, please!”

When you live under another person’s roof, you follow their house rules. Realizing that she was moments away from death, Granny Tree finally snapped out of her haze of anger and started begging for her life, “Let me live, and I will repay you! I have many treasures to give you! I can even help you take out your competitors in the Divine Court!”

“That’s right! With my help, you will definitely obtain your unparalleled fortune and opportunity!”

Seeing that Taoist Gu was silent, Granny Tree continued to make more offers, “H-how about I serve you as your loyal servant? I’ll do whatever you want!”

“Are you sure? You’ll do whatever I want you to do?” Taoist Gu finally responded.

Delighted to receive a response, Granny Tree hurriedly said, “Yes! Yes! Anything!”

Taoist Gu replied indifferently, “Okay then. I want you to die!”

Granny Tree complained in an aggrieved tone, “I’m serious, Taoist Gu!”

Taoist Gu responded, “This poor Taoist is also serious. My word is golden, you know?”

Granny Tree was stunned for a moment. Then, she exploded, “I will take you to the grave with me if it’s the last thing I do, Taoist Gu!”

Terrible energies and destructive power began surging from inside Granny Tree. Clearly, she was planning to make one final gambit.

“Heh. I knew you were lying,” Taoist Gu said tauntingly and ridiculingly.

“Argh!”

It was at this moment Granny Tree let out a bleak, painful wail. At the same time, the terrifying energies waned rapidly, and the destructive power gradually disappeared.

“You won’t escape me! I will haunt you from the grave! Taoist Gu!” Granny Tree roared, howled, and screamed, but it was futile. Right now, she did not even have the strength to drag her enemy to the grave with her. Shouting impotently was all she could do.

Eventually, her voice became so soft it was inaudible, and the dark light covering the Ghost Locus disappeared completely.

Crack! Crack!

At the same time, several gu insects bit through the tree trunk and crawled out into the open. Then, they consumed the tree whole in just the blink of an eye.

The gu insects were clearly larger after feeding on the Ghost Locust. It was clear that the Ghost Locust was very nourishing to them.

With that done, the gu insects flew toward the Southern Heaven Gate. The Primal Chaos Divine Thunder could do nothing against them. Therefore, it wasn’t long before they reached the Southern Heaven Gate and transformed back to Taoist Gu.

“Ah! Delicious!”

Taoist Gu took a long gulp from his wine gourd before vanishing into the Southern Heaven Gate.

“Taoist Gu... White Bodhisattva... Southern Sea Dragon King! You will not escape. I will kill all of you!”

A dozen or so breaths later, a tree root appeared outside the field of Primal Chaos Divine Thunder and slowly grew into a tiny sapling about several inches tall.

Granny Tree’s face appeared on the leaves of the sapling, and it looked defiant, angry, and hateful.

See? I told you she wouldn’t die so easily!”

It was at this moment a ridiculing voice appeared behind Granny Tree. “What should we do with her, Qingyou?”

“I’ve heard of Granny Tree of the Southern Sea. I’ve also heard that she is a murderous, soul-consuming villain who has committed every sin under the sun. Killing her would be just,” a woman replied indifferently.

“True that. No point in keeping a parasite around,” the ridiculing voice replied.

“Who are you people?!”

Stunned, Granny Tree spun around to look. However, all she saw was a palm as wide as the heavens and as big as the earth. It spanned from end to end like the cosmos itself.

She felt like there was nowhere for her to escape.

“Mercy, senior!”

Granny Tree screamed, but the hand collapsed on her like the heavens or the earth. Her body was instantly crushed like an ant, and her mind disintegrated into nothing. Just like that, Granny Tree was dead.

“Let’s go.”

After Granny Tree was utterly and completely dead, Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou revealed themselves and exchanged smiles with each other. Then, they stepped into the field of Primal Chaos Divine Thunder.

White Bodhisattva, the Southern Sea Dragon King, and Taoist Gu had all unleashed their expertise to overcome the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder. They all looked grandiose or complex.

In comparison, Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou’s way of dealing with the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder was much simpler. Ye Qing surrounded himself in Yin Yang Qi, whereas Feng Qingyou covered her head with the Supreme Primal Origin Celebratory Cloud.

No matter how many bolts of lightning descended, they were neutralized by the Yin Yang Qi and the Supreme Primal Origin Celebratory Cloud. Not a single hair on their person was harmed.

Together, they strolled through the sea of lightning and thunder like it was a park. They looked relaxed and at ease.

A moment later, when they reached the Southern Heaven Gate, the thunder abruptly stopped striking.

“So this is the legendary Southern Heaven Gate. Oh my.”

It didn’t look like much when they were far away, but now, they realized just how tall and big it was.

The Southern Heaven Gate was translucent and limpid like it was forged from white jade. Patterns of auspicious clouds, birds, beasts, wind and fire were engraved to its surface. It was immeasurably wide and impossibly tall. It was difficult to view it from the bottom.

Underneath the gate, the duo felt like ants or even specks of dust. They were so small they might as well be invisible.

When they looked up, the three words “Southern Heaven Gate” entered their view. It was as big as the moon and glittering like the stars. It was impossible to miss it even from thousands and thousands of kilometers away.
