Black Lake:

Jeremy heard the sound from behind, but he didn't dare to stop. When he exited the Black Lake area, he turned around to see what was going on.

He could only see the outline of the worm beast, which was struggling. A hint of terror appeared in Jeremy's eyes. He knew the worm beast was above Tier-5.

To think it was suffering right now made him choose to leave despite his curiosity.

Swoosh!

He used the movement technique to leave. Fortunately, in the dim light, he could still perceive the path.

It didn't take long for him to reach the outer section of the Forbidden Area. If he wanted, he could stay here, but he chose to leave.

It was already a great relief for him that he could escape from the ferocious worm beast. He didn't want to be greedy and take chances.

So he exited the Forbidden Area and started back to the City Gate. If he traveled at night, he might reach the City Gate before sunrise.

As time passed, Jeremy came across a couple of Tier-3 Corrupted Beasts. He quickly killed them before continuing his journey. He didn't even bother to collect the corpses.

Time passed.

Jeremy returned to the City Gate before sunrise. Only after reaching the gate did he feel relaxed and a wave of tiredness washed over him.

Though he had reached the Tier-1 limit, he had been running non-stop for many hours since yesterday. He wanted a good rest now.

But to his surprise, the city guards looked at him weirdly after checking his ID. They led him to the admin office.

Upon arriving at the building, the guards informed someone. Jeremy was confused until he saw a middle-aged man stepping out.

It was a familiar face. The middle-aged man was none other than the City Guard Captain.

"Kid, you are alive!"

The City Guard Captain's expression changed.

Swoosh!

The next second, he appeared in front of him. He looked at the kid in disbelief.

When everyone heard that mercenaries were after this kid's life, they had thought he was unlikely to survive, but none spoke openly about it.

Jeremy was dumbfounded. He understood something had happened because of him. He guessed Daniel Stone and Betsy Lowe might have informed the university.

"Let's go inside," the Captain said.

Hearing that, Jeremy nodded and entered the building. The city guards left the place.

When they walked into the room, he saw Department Elder Derek and Instructor Jacob.

"Jeremy, are you alright?"

Jacob immediately reacted. None of them were asleep; they were waiting for news about Jeremy Night coming in.

He was surprised to see him alive and well.

Not only him, but the old man Derek was dumbfounded as well. Everyone stood up from their seats. The City Guard Captain was relaxed.

He had decided to inform City Police Captain Nathan, who was not here.

"We heard mercenaries were after your life. What happened?" Old man Derek asked in a serious tone.

They knew it was impossible to escape from veteran Beast Tamers, especially since Jeremy Night was a Tier-1 Beast Tamer.

None of them paid attention to Jeremy's strength, as their minds were focused on the important matter.

Jeremy knew it must have been Daniel Stone and Betsy Lowe. He felt glad that he hadn't revealed too much information.

He found everyone's gaze on him and then collected his thoughts before speaking. Obviously, he was going to lie.

More than against Tier-4 Beast Tamers, he had been able to save his life from the Tier-6 Worm Beast.

About 10 minutes later,

Everyone looked at Jeremy Night and sighed.

"Kid, you are fortunate. If not for the Tier-5 Beast troubling them, you wouldn't have found the opportunity to escape," Derek said with a relaxed smile.

"Who were the beast tamers?"

"What did they look like?"

Instructor Jacob asked back-to-back questions.

Hearing that, everyone wanted to know about it.

Jeremy was about to tell another lie when he heard footsteps.

"About that, I'll be asking him," Captain Nathan said.

When the City Guard Captain informed him, he was dealing with some other matter near the City Gate, so he was able to arrive quickly.

Upon seeing Captain Nathan, everyone became quiet. Captain Nathan turned towards the kid. Seeing that the kid was worn out and tired, he didn't want to ask questions.

But time was important for their investigation. His men had been looking for information, but none of them found any job postings related to assassination in the underground network.

He hoped to collect details from Jeremy Night.

"If you guys don't mind, can you give us a minute?" Nathan asked them.

"Okay, we will be waiting outside," Derek said before walking out of the room. Others followed him.

Jacob tapped Jeremy's shoulder before leaving. He felt relaxed since Jeremy was alright; otherwise, he didn't know what he would have done.

Everyone left, leaving behind Captain Nathan and Jeremy Night.

Captain Nathan said, "Last time, a gunman targeted you. You were lucky enough to escape. This time, mercenary members are after your life."

"But you were able to escape from such danger as well. Not many can do that," he added.

"Captain, you are over-praising me," Jeremy replied.

Compared to the terrifying Tier-6 worm beast, the Tier-4 Beast Tamers were nothing. If not for Daniel and Betsy being with him, he wouldn't have used that option.

"Now, tell me from the beginning what happened?" Nathan asked after sitting in the chair.

Jeremy nodded before sitting opposite him. Then he started to tell the same lie to Captain Nathan.

A few minutes later,

Nathan stopped the recordings and looked at Jeremy Night.

"Did you observe anything else?" he asked.

"Captain, they were well hidden. Each one of them was dressed in hoodies and their faces were covered with masks."

"Clearly, they didn't want to be exposed," Jeremy replied.

"What do you think happened to them?" he asked.

"I heard fighting sounds before fleeing. I didn't even turn around to check, so I don't know the result of their fight," Jeremy said in a calm tone.
