Chapter 34: Any Enemy Is Regarded As A Monster

Nina soon entered the cleared area, but she didn’t dare head to the entrance.

Instead she headed towards the back of the cottage, trying to make a few observations before deciding whether to meet them or not.

Nina hid by one of the windows and sunk her eyes into one of the small openings.

However, all she saw was darkness, and there was no trace of any person around.

Staring in confusion, she checked through another opening, and it was the same outcome.

She then checked another. And another...

Same outcome.

And at that point she got confused.

After pondering about what to do for a while, she then decided to just head through to the door and approach them like a normal person, even though they are no longer in a normal world.

And at that point when she was about to turn and walked away.

She suddenly turned to face a gun pointed towards her head, and a young lady on black was standing right in front of her.

The next moment, another lady on white dashed out from nowhere. She appeared to be the woman Nina had been following.

"And who are you? Are you trying to steal from us? Attack us?" The armed one asked.

Nina gave a serious headshake and responded.

"No."

"So why are you trying to get in from the window?" She then asked.

Nina, not having the prefect answer for that question, was suddenly caught off guard, and the next moment, the armed lady took her judgement.

"Fine..." She looked at the lady on white.

"Another monster captured. Let’s take her to father."

Nina didn’t try making a ugly move, because she knew really well that it could result to a very bad outcome. With the gun on her hand, she decided to respect it.

The both ladies led her into the cottage with the gun well pointed towards her head. Those threatening eyes from the lady on black hadn’t shaken her enough, but Nina decided to remain obedient.

After all she wasn’t here to cause trouble, she just needed company, which she would gladly accept if she didn’t get one.

Entering house, she soon noticed why every opening in the cottage was dark. They had used black curtains to cover every point of the building, making sure that no one can spot a tip of anything inside.

Nina didn’t know why they had done, but she was sure that this was because of the apocalypse.

She was led to a room where a middle-aged man with grey dreadlocks was sitting on a mat.

The man seemed to be focused on a meditation, and the ladies decided to wait the moment they noticed it.

Nina was only staring in patience, anticipating where all these would lead to.

After a moment, the man was done, and he turned to them.

"Father, we found a monster," the one with the rifle said.

The middle-aged man frowned the moment he spotted Nina, and his gaze rested on her for quite a while.

He then stood up and walked over, facing Nina.

"What do you want from us?" He asked.

"Shelter. Food... Maybe company" Nina responded with a bold tone, no sign of fear or panic on her face.

"You wanted all these things, so you decided to steal it?" He asked.

"I wasn’t trying to steal from you, I was trying to inspect before I make an approach," Nina replied.

"It’s better to make an approach than lurking around sometimes. If hadn’t taught my daughters about Pardon Before Wrath, they would have killed you in the spot, did you know that?" He asked her.

However, Nina couldn’t utter a word, and even when noticing the side looks from the girls, she didn’t mind to stare back.

"We are convinced that you are an enemy, and every enemy, to us, is regarded as a monster. What we do to monsters? We kill monsters. And maybe that might be your fate if what you claimed are your intentions aren’t true."

"I would never hurt would didn’t hurt me," Nina spoke, her eyes on a serious note as she stared at him.

Seeing those eyes, the man appeared to flinch for a moment, but then he didn’t let it take over him, and he gave his daughters the order to take her away.

Nina was led to a lone room, and nit only was she left locked, her arms were tied.

The girl in black gave her a stern look before shutting the door and left, and then, just like that, Nina was left alone in the room, captured.

’F**k!’

She said as she clenched her fist, insanely pissed.

If she had known that this was how it would go, it was just better to get the antelope in peace.

"Did you really get those girls out of New Land, Ethan? How did you do it? How did you survive?"

Jasper and John had visited Ethan and we’re having a chat with him after he got back from the Commander’s office.

This wasn’t the first time he was being asked about how things went at New Land after the missile drop that had happened there.

At this point he was already even becoming tired of answering to questions like these.

However, he was already getting along with Jasper and John, so not replying would seem like he was trying to hide things or maybe trying to avoid them.

Although he would respond to them, that wouldn’t mean he wouldn’t be careful with his words, because he knew that the Commander could use them as a source to find out more about what happened.

Ethan was somehow thoughtful enough to understand these possibilities.

"It didn’t do it alone. We all contributed to it. If I had tried doing it alone, I would have become one of those monsters by now," Ethan responded to Jasper’s question but there was still a bit of doubt on their faces.

"You didn’t do it alone? Really? You really did it with those girls you came here with?" Jasper appeared to be amazed.

"Those girls didn’t really look like they can hurt a fly. Damn, I don’t believe you, man," Jasper said.

"Same here," John nodded, agreeing to Jasper.

It was understandable because the way the girls looked didn’t look like they could do something like that.

They were all looking like they had been hiding inside the university the whole time until Ethan came to their rescue.

And even though they were finding it hard to believe him, it would have been better if Nina was here.

Maybe... Just maybe they can have a change of mind.

But unfortunately...

"I’m not going to beg you to believe me. I mean every word I said. Those girls you see as weaklings can fight through anything together," Ethan said.

"What about the one who escaped. Is she another force or is she just going to die in the woods?" Jasper asked with a joking smile.

Ethan frowned at him, and when Jasper noticed it, she gave a slight sign of apology, but yet that playful smile was still on his face.

He had appeared to be a playful guy, and Ethan wasn’t finding some of his statements funny, especially the one he just said about Nina.

"If he hadn’t been for her, I wouldn’t have been here," Ethan said before he walked out of the room.

Jasper and John could only exchange looks of amazement as they watched him walk away.

They were all eager to know about more about this guy, after the rumours of him killing a Red gigantic monster in Augusta.

Saying that he did it alone was already looking like lie because surely, someone who killed a giant monster could get through hundreds of zombies with ease!

Jasper and John weren’t only curious to know what this guy had gone, they were also glad that he was their housemate, and being with him could help them get better with combat and maybe get a bit of the specialty that he had.

Ethan headed straight out of the building abd made his way towards the gate area.

He was still hoping that they find Nina, as he feared she wouldn’t be able to survive out there alone.

Just as if it was planned, a couple vans were were approaching from the near distance.

He was standing far from the officers at the game so as not to draw any attention. Waiting patiently, he watched the vans entered the through the gate and parked at the one side.

He hoped seeing her, knowing that together they can actually figure a way out finally if things doesn’t go well here.

Ethan already knew that there was no way they’d stay here for long, but still, he still doubted that Nina would travel to Atlanta alone without coming for them.

And as the new figures stepped out of the van, Ethan was calmly watching and pinning their faces.

He still hoped, even after a considerable about of people had stepped out and he hadn’t still seen a sign of Nina.

He was still hoping and hoping...

Until...

Suddenly, the last three figures that stepped out made his face turned dark.

He had knew this was going to happen.

But not now at least!

Right in his eyes were two familiar faces and...

Karen?

Who suddenly spotted Ethan and gave a wry smile smile before looking away.
