Chapter 41: Zhang Xiaotian vs. Zhang Lucheng (2)

They weren’t the only ones stunned. The entire Zhang family was.

Zhang Xiaotian had awakened a month ago, everyone was sure of that. How could he have made such progress in such a short time?

Did he learn the first level of Sword Dance in such a short time?

Zhang Hao clenched his fists. "How could that be? He learned a level 3 sword technique with an F-grade talent? Is that even possible?" He looked at Fenglian. "Did you make a mistake?" he asked.

"Is his talent really C-rank?"

Zhang Fenglian quickly shook his head. "No, Father. I’m more than sure. Jiang was there that day, he can corroborate it," he said quickly.

"His rank is F," Zhang Jiang assured him, more confused than Zhang Hao himself.

He was the most analytical of the three, able to put aside his own feelings and thoughts to analyze this situation more clearly.

And it didn’t make sense!

Logic has taught them that an F-grade talent could never learn a Level 3 technique. It doesn’t matter what kind of technique it is.

If not, then what are talent grades for?

Basic Level Techniques: For F-grade.

Level 1 Techniques: For E-grade.

Level 2 Techniques: For D-grade.

Level 3 Techniques: For C-Grade.

Grade C!

"So you’re telling me that bastard can learn high-level cultivation techniques, even though he’s only grade F?!" Zhang Hao roared softly, scolding his sons.

They were just as confused.

Zhang Hao shook his head.

"You were deceived somehow. Surely his talent is Grade C." He gritted his teeth. "No. It must be higher for him to have learned it in such a short time. Perhaps..."

Perhaps "grade A", were the words he couldn’t utter.

-

Zhang Lucheng watched helplessly as his cultivation technique was surpassed by such an inferior force.

He could feel it. His strength was far greater than that of his enemy!

But he still lost.

"Damn bastard. You’re good." Lucheng roared and rushed quickly towards him.

Xiaotian responded, and the swords clashed once more. But Lucheng’s sword glowed purple a second before striking. The force increased.

Xiaotian was pushed back dramatically, his feet planted on the ground, but unable to stop. Lucheng seized the moment to jump on him.

"Purple Oak Sword, Vertical Strikes!" he roared.

The second level of the Purple Oak Sword was immediately activated, and the sword falling on Xiaotian glowed even deeper, with a more intense hue.

Xiaotian quickly analyzed it.

This was an attack that created a combo of vertical strikes. The first strike came from above, used to stun the opponent and allow the next strike, coming from below, to land accurately.

It would deliver a series of similar strikes in succession, depending on how deeply Lucheng had cultivated, with a limit of 11 strikes.

The probability of Xiaotian withstanding this attack was 0. At most, he could withstand the first two blows, but his body would not be able to withstand any more than that, especially when they came from a person with such high cultivation.

He quickly made a decision. He stomped hard behind him and dug his foot into the ground to raise a mound that could stop him.

Xiaotian could see several openings in Lucheng’s body. If he had enough speed, he could attack them, and Lucheng’s technique wouldn’t even be able to activate. Unfortunately, his attack speed was much slower than Lucheng’s, so he couldn’t do it.

Even so, there was something he could do.

When he finally stood still, his body heated up in milliseconds. Immediately, the sword in his hand was surrounded by fire.

Lucheng’s vertical attack from above was suddenly countered by a vertical attack from below by Xiaotian.

CLANK!

The loud sound of the impact reverberated in their ears.

Lucheng sneered. "Idiot!" He roared...

Doing that wasn’t the wisest thing to do. How could you face a Level 3 technique in its second stage with a measly fire?

But Lucheng was stunned when he felt his body being pushed back, almost losing control of his sword.

Although Xiaotian’s fire faltered greatly, it managed to counteract that purple spiritual energy, allowing Xiaotian to begin his round of attacks.

Ever since he learned that any type of attack could be enhanced by his Legacy Technique, he had been training in various ways, trying to perfect the attack techniques laid out in the scroll and create his own.

This was one of his creations.

Vertical Counter.

When Lucheng was pushed back, Xiaotian’s sword was above his head...

Once again.

There was a sense of déjà vu in one of the spectators’ minds...

The first attack was a perfect downward vertical movement that struck firmly on Lucheng’s sword.

Lucheng immediately remembered that time. ’Bastard, don’t even think about doing that to me again!’ he roared in his mind.

"Purple Oak Sword, Three...!"

He couldn’t even finish speaking when a vertical upward attack disoriented him, hitting him in the chin.

He couldn’t understand what had happened. That wasn’t the course of movements...

It wasn’t until Xiaotian’s sword struck him in the sides and made him spit blood that he understood that the attack had changed.

That left him with a huge number of openings in his defense, leaving him practically defenseless in front of Xiaotian, who was able to attack him repeatedly in different places, causing his powerful fire to sneak into Lucheng.

The fire surrounding Xiaotian’s sword suddenly transformed into a strong wind. It was as powerful as a gale. Then came the long-awaited horizontal attack that Lucheng had been waiting for... only too late.

Lucheng’s body was sent flying as the wind swept him away.

"Aghhh!" Lucheng let out a cry of pain, rolling on the ground. Some of his ribs were broken again, but the most terrifying pain came from that fire.

It was burning him from the inside!

Xiaotian didn’t stop his charge. He quickly ran after him, dragging his sword to create one of his most powerful attacks: The Fire Stream.

This was not a created attack.

It was the most advanced level he had learned from Winged Fire. A fire attack, powered by wind. It took him a whole week to learn it.

When he was two meters away, he swung his sword forward. The fire created by the continuous scraping of his sword against the ground grew and, like a large electric current, shot forward.

It looked more like a thunderbolt of fire propelled by wind, and it was heading straight for Lucheng’s stomach.

Lucheng couldn’t even see the danger behind him, but he could feel it. His body was paralyzed by fear and the burns inside him.

CLANK!

The attack of fire and wind struck. Its force was astonishing.

But it didn’t hit Lucheng.

"Good. It’s over." The Count’s voice reached Xiaotian from the front. A sword stood between the Count and Xiaotian’s attack, stopping it.

Suddenly, the fire rebounded toward Xiaotian, and the force of the impact engulfed him. It was much weaker than before and not a powerful attack, but his body was still thrown backward, barely holding on with his sword.

"Killing is forbidden, little Xiaotian. Take that as a small punishment for trying to break that rule," said the Count.
