Strongest Demigod System-Chapter 44: Wins and Losses
Maddison had started to get frustrated by the fact that Azrael was easily avoiding all the clean hits she had so far! Even when she thought that Azrael was at her mercy, he would somehow manage to avoid the attack before she could get him!
Azrael turned around and shot off the ground towards Maddison!
Maddison backpedaled in shock as she thought that Azrael was going to stab her, but Azrael just grabbed her around the waist and took her down to the ground with him!
SLAM!
Maddison looked up at Azrael with wide eyes as he held a sword to her neck. The both of them were breathing heavily, and Azrael's body was resting on top of Maddison's chest, so they could both feel how fast their hearts were racing. That wide smile from before was still on his face, and Maddison couldn't stop her eyes from glancing at his lips as she swallowed.
A blush rose on Maddison's face as she wondered what Azrael was trying to do by taking her down like this, but an announcement immediately broke the illusion.
[The contestant Alastor Maddison has been evicted from the combat ring. Contestant Azrael Mortis is the winner of the Duel.]
Maddison blinked in surprise at the announcement, and she immediately turned her head to the side to see that she was lying right outside the red circle! Fuck! He tricked her!
Maddison turned back to Azrael with a heavy glare, and Azrael just smirked at her as he stood up from the ground. Maddison groaned internally in embarrassment! For a second back then, she thought that Azrael was trying to do something else, but he had just been using the momentum to knock her out of the ring!
By lying on top of her, Azrael ensured that his body didn't touch the ground outside the ring, so Maddison was the only one who was evicted. This bastard was so sneaky!
Azrael put his hand out to Maddison, and Maddison looked at it in surprise for a second. Throughout the time they had been training just now, Azrael had never given her his hand even once, so seeing him do it now gave Maddison a strange feeling in her heart. Like she had just passed another one of the trials in Azrael's heart, and the wall between them was now a little lower than it had been before.
By giving her his hand, Azrael was showing that she had finally given him a good fight.
Maddison took Azrael's hand, and she released a small huff as Azrael pulled her to her feet easily. Azrael gave her a smile and he started to walk to the other side of the ring while talking.
"That was good. A lot better than the sword fights."
Maddison turned to look down at her scythe lying beside her, and she closed her eyes and sighed internally as memories threatened to overwhelm her. The look on her family's faces the first time she picked up a scythe, and the way her father warned her against ever using a scythe again. But then she opened her eyes and saw the way Azrael was smiling at her in approval, and all of a sudden none of it mattered again.
Who cares about what her family thinks?
Maddison had already decided that she was going to walk with Azrael, and Azrael appreciated authenticity above everything else. That meant she didn't need to keep pretending to be something else.
Maddison rolled her shoulder around and she released a low grunt when she felt how sore it was. She looked at the time on the wall opposite her and she was surprised when she saw that it was already nine o'clock! What the world!? They've been working out for five hours!?
Maddison had no idea that time had gone by so quickly. Normally, Maddison only worked out for two or three hours before leaving the school, but this time, even though it's been five hours, she didn't even feel like any time had passed. Was it because she was working out with someone else?
Maddison had heard from others that time passes quickly if you're having fun, so that could only mean that she was having fun, right?
Maddison sighed as she picked up her scythe, and she saw Azrael standing at the ready with his sword in front of him. It was obvious that he wanted to go again, but Maddison really couldn't do any more than this.
"Sorry, but I can't use my God Aspect anymore."
Azrael raised a brow in surprise. What in the world was she talking about?
Azrael looked at her questioningly and waited for an explanation, and Maddison explained while leaning against her long scythe.
"My summons use my Divine Essence to appear in the real world, and every time they die, they return to an Aether Zone outside this world. If I want to summon them again, I'll have to use more Divine Essence, but I haven't killed any daemons, so I barely have any Divine Essence left. It'll take some time for me to recover enough to summon them again."
Azrael slowly lowered his sword with a muttered 'oh.' That made sense. Azrael had never even thought about the Divine Essence consumption for God Aspects all this time. Before he got his God Aspect from Thanatos, Azrael didn't think he needed to bother studying how Divine Essence was consumed, and after getting the God Aspect, he got more than enough Divine Essence after killing Francis and his lackeys, so Azrael never felt any drain on his Divine Essence while using any of his abilities.
'I should study more about what Divine Essence can be used for.'
Azrael decided that he didn't have enough knowledge about his own abilities, and he was going to go read up on it once he had enough free time. But for now, this much was enough. Azrael flicked his sword to the side and spoke to the Simulation AI.
"End duel."
The Simulation AI immediately responded.
[Student, Azrael Mortis has ended the duel. The results of the duel are as follows: Azrael Mortis, 6 wins, 0 losses. Alastor Maddison, 0 wins, 6 losses. It is advised that student, Alastor Maddison works harder on improving her combat progress before the next duel. Student Azrael Mortis and Student Alastor Maddison have both gained 20 points each for completing their training exercise. Student Azrael Mortis has gained an extra 10 points for winning more than five duels. Students may use these points at any store within the school, and they will be added to your student evaluation at the end of the year.]
Maddison glared up at the voice when she heard how many times she had lost, and she huffed before following Azrael. They both dropped their cylindrical rods and glasses in the wall outside the arena and then they headed out of the gym to go home.
Maddison looked to the side to glance at her system, and she saw that she had improved her Mortal Ranking by eight points in just this one training session! After calculating things properly, she noticed that she only needed seven more points to increase her Mortal Ranking to D.

Normally, Maddison would only gain three or four points on the days when she worked out, and since she didn't work out that much, she hadn't expected to get a D Rank anytime soon.
But after just one session where Azrael pushed her to her extreme, she was able to improve by eight points!
