Chapter 111: You’re Just Jealous

Jason’s first words made Griselda’s smile die a brutal death.

"You should give up on your dreams. Going into a Gate isn’t the walk in the park you think it is. People actually die in there. I was lucky enough to awaken before I got eaten by the monsters, but others weren’t so lucky."

Griselda felt a strained smile grow on her face as Jason continued talking, and after a while, she raised her hand and told him to stop!

"I understand all you’re saying, but don’t think you can tell me what I can or can’t do just because you became a superhuman a few days ago."

"I’m just trying to help you—"

"I know, but I don’t need your help. I’ve already heard everything you’re about to say from a thousand other people before. No one believes I can do what I set my heart to, but that won’t make me give up. I’ll become a Guild Captain even if it takes me years to do it. I swear it. And when I do become a Guild Captain, I’ll make you join me."

Griselda turned away from Jason and began to walk into the building. Jason just watched her go with a look of mild respect. Griselda really believed that she could do this even with all the disadvantages in her way, and Jason couldn’t help but respect that.

Jason took three Magic Crystals from his pocket and quickly threw them in his mouth before he started walking to the school building. He wasn’t going to say anything more to Griselda since her mind was so hellbent on this. If she wanted to die inside a Gate, then who was he to tell her not to?

The other students were still gawking at Jason, and some of them were even trying to talk to him, but he ignored them all and just kept walking. He didn’t care about the students before he became a superhuman, and now that he was one, he still didn’t care.

But as Jason was entering the building, he was suddenly stopped by one of the students. It was a male student who was a full head shorter than Jason. He had brown hair and a strict face that made him look slightly constipated, and on the right side of his uniform was a prefect’s badge. The boy looked up at Jason with intensity, and Jason raised a brow at the shorter boy while waiting for him to say something.

"You should know better than to cause a commotion on your first day back in school."

Jason rolled his eyes before throwing his hand around the boy’s shoulder with a laugh and ruffling his hair! The boy cried out in protest and tried to throw Jason off!

"Get off me, you brute!"

The boy cried out in anger and Jason couldn’t help but laugh as he finally let him go. The boy’s name was Ferdinand and he was the Head Prefect of the school as well as one of the only students in Riverdale High that Jason could tolerate being around. Jason and Ferdinand started off on a very bad note when they first met because Ferdinand thought Jason was just a brute who always looked for trouble, and Jason thought Ferdinand had a meter-long stick up his ass. But after they learned more about each other, they each realized that they had been wrong.

Ferdinand realized that Jason wasn’t just a brute or a troublemaker. He was also someone who cared about his family, and he was only missing so many days of school because he was trying to make money for his sister’s schooling. And Jason decided that the stick up Ferdinand’s ass was only about half a meter long.

After they both came to terms with each other, they became begrudging friends and even spent time together in school whenever they were both free. Ferdinand made sure to cover for Jason whenever Jason was absent because of work, and Jason kept some of the kids out of trouble to make the workload easier on Ferdinand. But no matter how close they got, Jason knew that the stick up Ferdinand’s ass would never allow him to loosen up even a little.

Ferdinand huffed as he organized his hair back into its smooth, slicked-back form while giving Jason a glare, and Jason just grinned as he spoke.

"Try to loosen up a little, dude. If you keep that glare on your face all the time, you’ll look thirty by the time you’re twenty."

"I’d rather look thirty than keep acting like a fifteen-year-old."

Jason laughed at the jab and Ferdinand huffed before he finally finished organizing his hair and looked up at Jason again.

"So you’re a superhuman now. I really shouldn’t be surprised by the things you do anymore, but this seems a bit excessive, even for you."

"Hah. You’re just jealous."

Ferdinand blushed in embarrassment before his eyes narrowed into a glare. He wouldn’t deny that he was a little jealous of Jason’s luck. Becoming a superhuman was something every child dreamt of at least once in their life, and even Ferdinand had wished at one point that he would develop abilities. It was just too bad that they never came.

But Ferdinand refused to allow Jason to embarrass him like this. He regained his composure and turned around to start walking down the hallway.

"Come with me. The principal asked to speak to you. Try not to cause any trouble and behave yourself while speaking to her. I know you don’t have much respect for authority, but even you aren’t above expulsion."

Jason laughed at Ferdinand! This bastard was trying to deflect from the topic! He was fucking embarrassed! Jason immediately came over and ruffled Ferdinand’s hair again, and Jason laughed as Ferdinand cried out in anger!

...

The two boys made their way to the principal’s office and Ferdinand knocked once on the door to tell the principal that they were there. Once the principal told them to enter, Ferdinand said goodbye to Jason and left to complete his rounds.

Jason entered the office and he was immediately hit with the smell of old books and wood. The principal’s office was built like a cabin. The floors and ceiling were made from stained wood and there were three large shelves filled with old voluminous books lining the western end of the room. At the center of the room, the principal’s mahogany table sat against the light coming from the window at the side, and there were three chairs opposite the table for guests. Jason closed the door behind him and looked at the principal with a respectful nod and a small smile.

The principal’s name was Miss Harold, and she was a beautiful woman in her early thirties. She had short brown hair and deep brown eyes that attracted many men when she was younger. But even with her age, Jason couldn’t deny that she was still beautiful. She had a small nose and full red lips that barely wrinkled when she smiled. Her eyes were slanted in an almost seductive way and no amount of modest dressing would be capable of hiding the extraordinary figure that she had. There have been many incidents of young boys in their early twenties hitting on her because they thought she was around their age.

Once the principal saw Jason, she quickly stood from her table as some tears gathered in her eyes and she moved around and came to hug him tightly! Jason easily accepted the hug with a grin and he pat her back gently as he felt her sigh against him in relief.
