Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time-Chapter 27: A Visit To The Jail
Chapter 27 - A Visit To The Jail
The more Han Yu thought, the more he realized just how low his chances were now.
"Would the Twin Leaf Peak Sect be an option?" Han Yu wondered, not knowing anything about them. "Maybe they'd be willing to take me even at a lower stage?" he hoped.
Thinking of this, he knew what he needed to do next.
"Let's find out more about this sect. If they take those at lower stages, I might be out of luck. Even if they take those at the Seventh Stage of the Body Tempering realm, it might just be possible for me to reach that in time." Han Yu said to himself, trying to spur his motivation.
Slumping forward, Han Yu wiped his face with a defeated sigh. He needed a plan, fast. If he didn't find a way to power up, his dream of joining a sect would be about as realistic as him suddenly sprouting wings and flying to the heavens.
"Alright, first step—find Fat Kui and Dan Hu. They'll probably know someone who knows about the sect. Second step—figure out a way to get stronger. Third step—profit."
With renewed determination (and a newfound wariness of airborne surprises), Han Yu stood up and cracked his knuckles.
It was time to get to work.
With more motivation, Han Yu tried harder to look for his companions. He went to every restaurant and tavern he could think of that the two would be able to afford. But that turned out to be a waste, as they were nowhere to be found.
"They didn't get arrested or something, did they?" Han Yu wondered.
It was certainly a thing he could see happening.
"Shit... those two didn't get too smart and try to pull off the scam alone, did they?" Han Yu's eyes went wide.
Thinking of this, he quickly hurried straight to the town jail.
Thankfully for him, it wasn't that far from his current location.
Reaching there, he entered the three-story building. It was one of the few buildings in the town that was this tall, with the others either being office buildings of the town administration or the mansions of the town head, some rich merchants, and other high-class individuals.
Inside the building, there were a lot of guards going about their day.
"Where's that clerk?" Han Yu ignored everyone, searching for one particular person who was not averse to getting their palms greased.
After looking for a few seconds, he quickly spotted the rather sleazy-looking individual sitting behind the farthest desk. He was hunched over, while ten individuals stood in line in front of him.
"Yangon! Clerk Yangon!" Han Yu called out.
"Huh, what?" The man looked up, spotting the teen standing there.
The man looked like the sleaziest bastard one might find in town. From visiting brothels every night to sleeping with the wives of prisoners, he'd done everything. Which was probably why he was all skin and bones. The fat mole on the side of his nose only made him look more detestable, if not his tiny eyes.
"Hey! Get back in line!" the man at the front of the queue shouted.
"Yeah, we've been standing here for half an hour already!" the others chimed in.
"I just need a minute!" Han Yu urged, ignoring them.
"You heard them, you gotta go back in line," Clerk Yangon replied.
"Here, I got you some candies." Han Yu extended his hand.
"Oh?" The clerk saw the glint in Han Yu's eyes, and a smile appeared on his face. "Ah, nice, nice! Something sweet would be perfect to get a bit of energy." He took the 'candies' from Han Yu's hands and slipped them into his pocket.

But that was just the start of his act. He then 'took' out a 'candy' from his pocket and popped it in his mouth.
"Ah! So sweet!" He sighed in delight, pretending as if what he was eating wasn't air but the best nectar.
"Can you tell me if Fat Kui and Dan Hu are here?" Han Yu asked.
"Who?" the clerk asked.
"Horse-faced idiot and the fatty who carries chicken drumsticks in his pockets for emergency snacking."
"Ah! Those two! I remember them." The clerk quickly nodded. "They were brought in last night. They should still be in the cells inside."
"Last night?" Han Yu was surprised.
"Go in if you want to take a look." The clerk shooed him away. "I still have work."
"Alright." Han Yu was pleased with the information and went toward the cells.
But there, a guard stopped him.
"Where do you think you are going, kid?" The guard stood sternly in front of the door.
"I uhh... just need to see some friends." Han Yu replied sheepishly.
"You think this is some tavern you can just walk into?" The guard scoffed. "This is a jail!"
"I know, I'll be quick, don't worry!" Han Yu said, trying to give his best smile.
"As if." The guard wasn't buying his act. "If you want to see the prisoners, go get permission from the warden first."
'Shit... that man would put me in jail too if I go meet him.' Han Yu had a couple of run-ins with the warden before when he had been accused of something he didn't do... according to him.
Thankfully, due to the lack of evidence (and Han Yu's silver tongue), he had managed to avoid it.
But he didn't think he'd be lucky every time.
"Han Yu? Why are you here?" Just when he thought his luck had abandoned him, it gave him another push.
"Guard Shen!" Han Yu's eyes brightened. "Just the person I wanted to see."
"Huh?" The guard was confused.
"You know this boy?" the other guard asked.
"Yeah." Guard Shen confirmed.
"He wants to see some prisoners," the other guard informed.
"Prisoners?" Guard Shen's eyes narrowed.
Han Yu, sensing impending doom, immediately turned on his most innocent, charming smile. "More like temporarily inconvenienced friends!" He said trying to downplay their offenses as much as he could.
