Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time-Chapter 632: Panic In The Birch Leaf Merchant Clan
Huamu Ran's wife, Madam Shu, clutched their son to her chest with a wail that echoed across the courtyard.
"My son! My precious son! Look at what they did to him!" she screamed, rocking him back and forth even though he was twenty seven years old and far too large for such dramatics.
Huamu Ye whimpered, "Mother, careful… it hurts… stop squeezing…"
She ignored him and cried louder.
"Who dares… Who DARES touch my son!"
Huamu Ran's face turned dark. His hands clenched so hard the joints cracked loudly. His expression, normally placid and calculating, twisted into something ugly.
"Who did this? Elder Bai! REPORT AT ONCE!"
Elder Bai, who stood rigidly near the entrance with several injured guards behind him, stepped forward and bowed deeply.
"Patriarch, this subordinate witnessed everything. The young master…" He hesitated and glanced at the sobbing mass in Madam Shu's arms. "The young master encountered a man in the market street. There was… a collision. The man insulted the young master. Then a brawl broke out."
"A brawl?" Madam Shu shrieked. "MY SON WAS ATTACKED BY A DOG IN HUMAN FORM!"
Huamu Ye whined again, "Mother, please stop screaming… my ears…"
She ignored him.
Huamu Ran slammed his palm against the table, sending a shiver through every guard present. "Tell me who it was. Describe everything, Elder Bai."
Elder Bai recounted every detail with methodical precision. His experience as a guard and a mercenary in the past showed in how clearly he remembered the sequence of events.
He described the collision. The insults. The humiliation.
The way Han Yu held Huamu Ye by the arm as if he weighed nothing. The slap that knocked out multiple guards. The bizarre shift in Elder Bai's own movement, a moment that no one else noticed but him, when it felt like his thoughts had clouded at the critical instant.
Madam Shu's eyes bulged with every sentence.
When Elder Bai finished, she screamed, "You useless fool! How could you LET THAT MAN LEAVE! How could you not protect my son!"
Elder Bai bowed his head, but a flicker of humiliation passed through his eyes.
"Madam, I could not risk the young master any further. The man held him in a grip that could have snapped bone. If I used full force or qi skills, I might have injured him. And his movements were not normal. I suspect he was hiding his cultivation and skills. If he had allies nearby…"
"I DO NOT CARE!" she screamed again. "You should have torn him apart! You should have cut off his arms and legs and dragged him here like a worm!"
Elder Bai maintained his composure and looked to the true authority in the room. "Patriarch. Your orders."
Huamu Ran pressed his fingertips together, thinking intensely. His eyes narrowed into slits.
"Is it possible that this… stranger… was sent by our rivals? Perhaps the Cloud River Guild? Or maybe the Clear Jade Trading Alliance?"
Elder Bai nodded solemnly. "Patriarch, in my opinion, this was too coordinated to be mere coincidence. A random cultivator would not have that much strength. And he did not seem to fear our guards at all. It is likely he is a skilled wandering cultivator. Perhaps even a mercenary hired by our enemies."
Madam Shu was not listening to reason. She was far too consumed by rage and humiliation.
"Why are we sitting here talking? Bai, go find him! Drag him here! I do not care if he is an immortal or a devil, CUT OFF HIS LIMBS!"
Her shrill voice made several servants flinch. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Elder Bai still did not move.
His loyalty was to the patriarch, not to an enraged mother blinded by fury.
Huamu Ran exhaled slowly, a sigh filled with cold calculation. "We will find him. But if he truly is someone powerful, then rushing in blindly would only harm us."
"But dear!" Madam Shu protested. "What if he runs away! What if he disappears!"
"He will not," Huamu Ran said calmly. "He acted in broad daylight. He walked away boldly. That means he is confident. Someone with such confidence does not run."
Elder Bai nodded. "The man seemed extremely controlled. He did not show panic or fear. His movements… Patriarch, he fought like someone who has lived on battlefields. His reflexes and timing were impeccable. During the fight I felt… no openings."
Madam Shu spat, "Are you trying to praise the man who hurt my son?"
Elder Bai bowed once more. "I am only stating facts, Madam. He is not a simple opponent."
Huamu Ran stroked his beard and fell silent for nearly a full minute. Then he spoke.
"We need information before we act. Elder Bai, gather every detail you can about this stranger. Where he is staying, where he came from, who he spoke to, what he bought. Anything that points to his background. Use our informants, our shopkeepers, everyone."
Elder Bai bowed deeply. "It shall be done."
Madam Shu erupted again. "Why waste time? He could already be leaving the town!"
Huamu Ran finally turned to her and spoke with a voice that brooked no argument.
"We will gather information today. If by tomorrow morning we still do not know who he is, we will bring him in by force."
Elder Bai nodded and left with the guards.
Servants entered with a stretcher and lifted the groaning Huamu Ye with great care. Madam Shu followed them, still crying dramatically while calling her son precious and cursing the heavens at the same time.
That left Huamu Ran alone in the hall. He sat down slowly, clasped his hands together, and stared at the flickering lamp on the desk in front of him.
His expression was dark.
"Someone is targeting us," he whispered. "Someone dares humiliate my family. Someone dares touch my son. This is not luck. This is not a random encounter."
He leaned back in his chair, eyes narrowing further.
"This must be the work of our rivals. Or perhaps someone we offended long ago. But whoever it is…"
He clenched his fist.
"I will drag them into the light."
His voice dropped to a chilling murmur.
"And crush them."
