People flinched, covering their mouths. Mothers held their children's faces to their shoulders.

Han Yu tilted his head.

"Oh? That was fast. I barely touched you. Let me try again."

He grabbed the other shoulder. Elder Bai's eyes widened in pure dread.

"No—wait—!"

Crack.

The second arm went limp, hanging uselessly.

Elder Bai's breathing turned ragged and frantic. Tears mixed with sweat on his cheeks as he gasped, voice breaking.

"You… devil… w-why… what have we done…?"

Han Yu leaned down, speaking so quietly Elder Bai felt each word crawl down his spine.

"You made a mistake," Han Yu whispered."You touched something that belongs to me."

Elder Bai didn't even know what that meant, but terror swallowed whatever courage he once had.

Han Yu did not give him time to think.

With one sharp kick to the front of Elder Bai's knees—

Crunch.

Both legs buckled unnaturally backwards. Elder Bai collapsed to the ground, unable to fall properly because his limbs no longer obeyed him. He trembled violently, his body fighting to faint but failing because Han Yu's imbued Qi held him awake.

"You… monster… you're a monster…" the man gasped.

Han Yu grabbed the man's collar with one hand and lifted him off the ground like lifting a sack of rotten grain. Elder Bai dangled helplessly, his limbs useless and swaying.

People backed away so violently that stalls fell over and someone tripped on a bucket, sending water spilling everywhere.

Han Yu looked at the terrified faces around him.

"You all saw it," he said calmly, voice cutting through the air like a blade."They came to break my limbs."

He shook Elder Bai slightly. The man whimpered like a wounded dog.

"So," Han Yu said, "it is only fair I break theirs first."

Silence fell. A chilling, absolute silence broken only by Elder Bai's trembling breaths.

Then Han Yu turned and started walking toward the Birch Leaf Merchant Clan's estate, carrying Elder Bai like one carries a hunting trophy... by the back of his collar, letting him dangle helplessly in the wind.

The townspeople parted instinctively.

No one dared step in his path.

Some knelt, shaking. Some hid behind doors. Some whispered prayers. A few fainted outright as Han Yu passed.

"H-he's really going there…" someone whispered with a trembling voice.

"He's dragging Elder Bai like a… like a sack…"

"The Birch Leaf Clan… they're finished…"

A wave of terror rose over White Peacock Town.

Han Yu didn't look back even once.

His steps were steady, unhurried, dripping with the confidence of someone who had already chosen the fate of an entire clan.

Behind him, Elder Bai's voice cracked as he whispered the only thing he could still say.

"P-please… p-please… mercy…"

Han Yu didn't answer.

He only tightened his grip and continued toward the Birch Leaf Merchant Clan's main gate—

where the true punishment would begin.

A line of townspeople trailed behind Han Yu at a careful distance, each step filled with trembling fascination and dread. They followed only far enough to see, but not close enough to be noticed. No one dared shout. No one dared warn the Birch Leaf Clan.

Because everyone had seen what Han Yu did to the guards.

And nobody wanted to be next.

Han Yu walked leisurely, Elder Bai swinging from his grip like an abandoned puppet. The man whimpered softly every few breaths, his limbs hanging at impossible angles. His eyes were filled with swollen terror.

He had stopped thinking of escape. He had stopped thinking of survival. All that remained were the regrets piling up in his mind.

'Why did I take this job… why did I ever serve this clan… why today… why…'

The Birch Leaf Merchant Clan's gates came into view.

They were large, polished, and decorated with bright paint and brass studs to convey wealth and prestige. The gate alone was meant to intimidate commoners.

Han Yu pushed it with one hand.

CREAK

The doors opened so easily that the hinges groaned in betrayal.

There were no guards.

Of course, there were none. They had all gone out to deal with him earlier. The clan had never thought the foe would be so strong, so they never thought to keep some in reserve. In their minds, no one would dare to act against their clan after all.

Now, all the guards were all dead.

Han Yu stepped inside the courtyard, glancing around with mild boredom. The place was colorful and gaudy with cheap gold paint and red lacquer. Fake luxury. Fake grandeur. Every detail screamed of merchants who scraped up wealth but had no taste or class to speak of.

Elder Bai's heart sank further. He had been seeing this courtyard with pride for years. And now it felt like a prison collapsing around him.

Han Yu chuckled, eyes sweeping lazily across the scenery. "Tacky," he muttered.

Elder Bai's breath hitched. He wanted to protest, but only a pathetic rasp left his throat.

The handful of townsfolk outside the gate held their breaths collectively, watching from afar as he walked deeper into the clan grounds.

Han Yu approached the large main hall. Torches were lit. Voices murmured faintly inside. It seemed the clan elders and stewards were already gathered, perhaps discussing the earlier humiliation of Huamu Ye.

Han Yu raised one leg, and—

Boom.

His kick sent both heavy doors swinging open so violently that they slammed into the interior walls.

Everyone inside jumped.

The clan head, Huamu Ran, jolted upright from his seat. Several elders stood, startled, and Madam Shu, Huamu Ye's mother, nearly dropped the tea cup she had been angrily clutching.

"Who dares intrude into my clan!" Huamu Ran shouted.

Han Yu stepped in, gave a slow mocking bow, then raised the broken mound of Elder Bai like a trophy.

"I thought you were looking for me," he said with a smile. "So I came to see you myself."

Everyone went pale.

One elder dropped his jade brush. Another fell back onto his chair. Madam Shu let out a small scream, hand flying to her mouth as she recognized Elder Bai's twisted limbs.
