Chapter 436: Will to Participate

"To be exact, it is a message from the king sent through the formal palace channel. He has kindly requested to preside over the wedding," Leona explained before pressing her lips hard together.

"What does that mean exactly?" Diana asked quite loudly.

"Please show me the letter that you received from the palace," I requested as I held my hand out.

My mind was busy figuring out what Desmond had in mind when I took the envelop away from Leona. Something extremely fishy was going on, and I wondered if Bradon already knew about this. Leona handed me the letter so slowly that I wanted to scream at her. It took all the effort inside of me not to snatch the envelope away from her.

"Let me read it too," Diana said as she brought her face next to mine so that we could both read at the same time.

When I read the letter, it was undoubtedly from Desmond. The undertone of getting whatever he wanted when he wanted it was quite evident and clear. He mentioned congratulating Bradon and I officially for our upcoming wedding. Since we used to be engaged, he only thought that it was right that he send me away in the place of my father and the he preside like the overall royal host of the entire ceremony.

"What on earth is he thinking?" I said, without hiding my astonishment.

"Well, maybe he realized that since you’re on very bad terms with dad, there is no one to walk you down the aisle. He’s offering to do that for you," Diana said.

I squinted my eyes at her so she ended up shrugging her shoulders innocently at me. Diana was trying her best to make me feel better, after all, what excuse did I really have to turn down this generous and prestigious offer from the palace. Although I wanted to crumble the envelope in my hand along with the letter itself, I couldn’t display such behavior in front of Leona.

"Can we get some time to discuss this in private?" Diana suggested to Leona.

"Oh, right. Of course," she quickly replied.

She quickly stood up as if very relieved to finally lift the mountain out of her chest. I could tell that she couldn’t wait to leave the room after dropping the bomb on us.

"Diana, why don’t you stay here with Leona to discuss all the last minute details in my place? I’ll talk to Bradon or something about this," I suggested as I held up the envelope.

"Right. Let’s make sure to get our job done here," Diana said as she regained her composure.

I was the one who quickly got out of the room after excusing myself and apologizing briefly to Leona. It seemed like once again, Desmond had some trick up his sleeve. However, he was the king now and going against a royal decree wasn’t exactly a good idea. Although the letter was framed as a generous offer from the king, I knew very well that it was meant to be an order that wasn’t supposed to be challenged.

"What the hell is he thinking?" I muttered to myself before letting out a exasperated sigh.

...

"Do you know anything about this? I mean, did you also get a letter like this from the palace? It was sent to Leona’s company, you know, the company organizing our wedding?" I asked, talking faster than I would have liked.

It felt as if I could not control the words pouring out of my mouth in succession, and that was a sure sign that I was on edge and about to have a panic attack of some kind. Bradon shook his head slightly at me before gently taking the envelope and letter from my hand. Apparently, he didn’t seem to know anything about it either. I fidgeting slightly as I waited for Bradon to read the short letter.

"Well?" I asked for his response.

"This is the first time that I’m seeing this. I don’t know anything about it, but I don’t mind it at all," Bradon replied quite passively.

"What do you mean? What do you mean you don’t mind?" I asked blankly.

"He can do whatever he wants. I don’t see it as being harmful. He can walk you down the aisle as if he’s your dad or even give a speech at our wedding. Just let him do whatever he wants to do. As long as we can get married, what’s the big deal?" Bradon replied as if it was truly nothing.

"Well, it’s not that I mind. It’s just that I find it weird," I voiced my concern. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Don’t frown like that. Nothing bad will happen, I’ll make sure of it. Nothing is ever going to interfere with our wedding. We’ll get married, no matter what happens," Bradon said as he pulled me into his embrace.

I looked up into his face and our eyes met briefly before he placed a tender yet firm kiss on my forehead. The gentle way that he was treating me made me feel safe, and I started to believe that everything would be find just as he had just promised. However, I had to say that I didn’t like walking into unknown with countless uncertainties.

"It’s just. It’s our wedding, you know, our real wedding and I want to make sure that nothing goes wrong. I want to make sure that no one interferes. I honestly don’t think that I can take it," I confessed as I felt tears stinging the back of my eyes.

"I’m sorry. I know that I’ve been busy lately, and I’ve left all the wedding preparings to you even though I was the one who picked the date and rushed you along with me," Bradon suddenly apologized to me.

"It’s fine. I’ve got my dear sister and the talented organizers to help me figure out everything. I dare say that they’ve probably done a better job than I ever could," I said before smiling at him.
