Suddenly, I Am Rich-Chapter 267: Couldn’t Be Helped
"Oh—!"
Selina’s breathing hitched. For a brief second, neither of them spoke. They just looked at each other in surprise and awkwardness.
"I—uh—" Selina’s voice faltered when she realized she had to explain. "L-Lily told me to change in here. She said her pajama was a surprise and didn’t want me to come into her room until she was done."
She quickly explained before he could even ask. She held up the pink pajama set slightly. Her face was red all the way to her ears. "I was planning to change quickly, but I didn’t think you’d finish your shower that fast."
Gray blinked once, then exhaled slowly, trying to keep his composure.
"Oh. I see." He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand, his hair still dripping a little. "So... that’s why you’re here."
Selina nodded quickly, her eyes darting everywhere except him. She glanced at the window, the table, the corner of the room, anywhere that wasn’t Gray’s bare chest.
When Gray noticed it, a small smile tugged at his lips. He didn’t expect Selina to react this way. She almost looked cute.
It was not like the two of them hadn’t seen each other’s bodies yet. They did even more than that.
"Well..." he said after a moment, reaching for his pajama that was draped over the chair on the side. He only held it, not putting it on yet. "You can change here then."
Selina froze. "Huh?!" Her eyes widened as she finally looked at him, only to quickly glance away again.
Gray raised a brow, a hint of amusement softening his tone.
"I mean, you can change in the bathroom."
"O–oh!" she stammered, clutching the pajamas tighter against her chest as she turned redder. "Right! Bathroom. Of course. I’ll just... I’ll just go do that."
She almost tripped over herself as she hurried toward the door, her hair brushing her shoulders in the rush.
Gray couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle under his breath as she disappeared behind the bathroom door.
"What an odd sight..." he murmured softly.
Selina was always elegant. She was someone who knew how to act depending on the situations put to her. She knew the words to say when talking to different people and was always composed.
But now, seeing her all flustered and shy, Gray felt as if he was looking at a new side of her. A new side that seemed interesting in his eyes.
"Oh well..." Gray’s eyes landed on the pajama in his hand. He might as well put this on already before Selina goes out of the bathroom.
A few minutes passed quietly.
Gray wore the clothes as intended. The pajamas looked a bit ridiculous on him. It was light blue, with soft white clouds scattered all over the fabric. He stared at himself in the mirror for a second and sighed.
"Lily really knows how to make fun of me," he muttered.
Still, he buttoned it all the way and sat down on the edge of his bed. As he waited for Selina, he dried his hair with his towel. Surprisingly, the soft fabric of the pajamas actually felt comfortable the more he wore them.
It was silly-looking, sure, but it was cozy.
Just then, the bathroom door clicked open.
Selina stepped out slowly, brushing a few strands of hair behind her ear. She was wearing the strawberry-patterned pajama set Lily picked. The pale pink fabric softened her features, making her look... younger somehow.
Gray’s hand stopped mid-motion. For a moment, he just looked at her, surprised by how different she looked.
Selina noticed his stare instantly.
"What?" she asked, her voice smaller than usual. She tugged at her sleeve, pretending to fix it, though she clearly didn’t know where to look. It was her first time wearing such clothes with other people around.
Gray blinked, then let out a short breath that sounded like almost a laugh.
"Nothing. You just..." he said, leaning back slightly with a faint grin. "You look cute."
Selina froze. Her eyes widened slightly before she turned her head to the side, trying to hide the color blooming across her cheeks.
"Cute?"
Gray nodded lightly, still amused by her reaction.
"Yeah. Definitely not what I usually see you in."
Her lips parted, but no words came out for a second. Then, just as quickly, she straightened her posture and crossed her arms.
"Well, you too," she said, finally meeting his eyes. "You also look cute."
the first time anyone’s told me that." Gray laughed softly. "That’s
Selina let out a small laughter too, shaking her head.
"Well, it’s true. You do. Those clouds really suit you."
He chuckled at that, and soon both of them were laughing. The earlier awkwardness has completely faded now.
Gray smiled as their laughter slowed. "Guess Lily managed to get her way again."
"She always does." Selina nodded with a faint grin.
"So, shall we go now?"
Gray’s lips curved faintly. "Yeah," he said, standing up from the bed.
But before they could take a step, Gray stopped. For a second, he just looked at her. He looked at her soft pink pajamas and her bare face. Something about the pureness of their interaction right now made his chest tighten.
Maybe it was how calm the room felt, or maybe it was the way she looked right now. But still, something stirred inside Gray. He took one quiet breath and crossed the space between them.
Selina blinked, confused at first.
"Gray?"
He didn’t answer. His hand reached up gently, brushing a bit of hair away from her face. Then, before she could say anything more, he leaned in and pressed his lips softly against hers.
It wasn’t rushed. It was just a slow kiss that either of them expected. Selina’s breathing caught but she quickly kissed him back, their lips moving on their own.
When he finally pulled back, Gray’s eyes softened.
"Sorry," he murmured, his voice low. "I just couldn’t help it."
Selina didn’t answer right away. Her cheeks were warm, but she wasn’t backing away either. Instead, she looked up at him, her lips curving into the smallest smile.
"It’s fine," she whispered. "I didn’t mind." she muttered before pulling Gray closer to her for another kiss.
