Soon, the two strange men stopped right in front of Kai, staring at him like they knew him from somewhere beforehand.
"Can I help you?" Kai asked, his voice calm and collected.
Carlotta, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time before she grabbed him by the arm, basically pressing his arm on her chest right in front of the two men.
And for some reason, that seemed to anger them even more.
One of them gripped the handle of his knife tightly, fighting the urge to stab Kai where he was standing then and there.
The onlookers who were simply passing ignored them completely, but Kai could still catch them throwing glances his way sometimes.
After what seemed like forever, one of the mercenaries finally spoke.
"Do you have any idea who I am, huh?"
Kai stared at him.
"No. I do not believe we have met before."
His words settled for a while.
Right at his side, Carlotta was still holding on to his arm firmly, pressing it against the side of her soft curves while throwing a dead stare at the two men.
One of the men, Lukas, pulled his knife to the side while taking slow steps towards Kai.
"Leave the woman and drop all the money you have on you."
Kai didn’t move a muscle.
’I don’t even have a single dime to begin with.’
"Oi! Are you deaf or something?!"
The man lunged forward, spinning his knife around so he could hit Kai on the side of the head with the hilt to render him unconscious.
However, just when he was about to launch the attack, he suddenly noticed Kai move.
The next thing he knew was the side of his face plummeting to the ground while the knife bounced rapidly on the stone pavement.
"Calm down, boy. If you are willing to do all this for a girl you just met, then you must be stupid at best..." Kai uttered right after, planting his foot on the man’s face to pin him there.
No matter what the bandit did, he could not move a single muscle. It was as though a massive rock was keeping him pinned to the earth.
The shock on the onlookers’ faces was visible, as Kai could feel their stares all around him. That is, minus the lustful glint in Carlotta’s eyes as she watched her Lord dominate the insect.
As for the second bandit, the moment he noticed the strongest among them get pinned down so easily, he immediately ran away, screaming with each step he took.
"T-this isn’t over! Just you wait! You will pay for this!!!"
Kai had a deadpan look on his face.
’Really? Such a cliché thing to say.’
"My Lord, shall I have my minions chase him down for you?" Carlotta asked.
Before Kai responded to her, he glanced at the top of the buildings around him, where he could see Carlotta’s shadow monsters hiding there from prying eyes.
If he gave the go-ahead, he was certain they would catch up to him and end him then and there.
After all, the bandit that ran away was only a Level 48. Carlotta’s monsters were nearing the borderline of Level 100.
"Let him be. This one is enough."
With the same breath, Kai let go of the man and watched as he sat on the ground, the thought to run away immediately crossing his mind in that moment.
But then—
"It is only fair that I ask a favor of you after you so rudely attacked me. Do you happen to have money on you?"
Not even a second after Kai asked, the man reached for his pockets and threw the money pouch right at his feet.
"H-here! That is all I have!!!!" he screamed as he immediately ran away.
Carlotta frowned even more.
"How dare he throw money at you like some commoner. I say we take his head."
"It is fine, Carlotta. You need to learn to stop being so violent sometimes."
"You’re right. I am sorry, my Lord."
"As long as you are aware, then it is fine."
Kai sighed internally.
’I only wanted to ask for money from him since I wanted to gauge the value of things for myself. I didn’t expect him to give me this much.’
He watched as Carlotta went to her knees and picked up the entire pouch of red coins on the ground.
Then, she offered it to Kai after checking the contents.
"Here you go, my Lord."
"Thank you."
’This should be around 400 Cens if I am not mistaken. Should be enough for me to get one or two things. I can do that on the way. The 800,000 Cens are still in the dungeon; I left it with Lyra and not in my inventory. It is late already, I should be heading out now.’
He looked at Carlotta.

Either way, Kai liked the progress he was making.

Standing outside the door, Kai pulled the handle and walked into the room with calmness as Carlotta followed right behind.

As soon as Kai stepped foot inside, even before he got the chance to close the door, he noticed something that immediately forced him to stand still.
Kneeling on the ground, not too far away from him, were the two of them, their foreheads pressed to the floor and their posture completely submissive.
In unison, they both greeted—
"Welcome, Lord Shadow sir."
"---Sh-adow sir!"
Kai was speechless.
"What are you both doing? Are you so blind that you cannot see my Lord is in disguise? Are you trying to break his cover?" Carlotta nagged at the back.
The two of them raised their heads immediately.
"We’re sorry! We didn’t know that," Sofia spoke first.
"Yes, we didn’t know, I swear."
"It is fine. I doubt anyone heard you. Now please, get up from the floor. Your position is quite uncomfortable to look at."
