Chapter 79: When motivation calls for...

In a matter of minutes, most of the Jaun area had been overrun by the human army that had chosen to take over.

Most of the dungeons in the Jaun land had already been conquered, with the human forces sweeping through every area to hunt down any monsters that could be hiding or trying to ambush them.

The streets of the small settlements were covered with blood and piles of dead bodies, those that had not yet been turned into the undead by Sandra’s necromancy.

But of course, that was merely the tip of the iceberg.

While a small number of soldiers headed out to search for the exact location of the Nameless Dungeon, led by Cowl himself, X remained at the main frontline, ready to execute the Dungeon Bosses he had captured.

The Flaming Knight and the Ghost Specter, both bosses who refused to fight but ran instead, were now cornered.

At first, it seemed like they were going to be successful in escaping, but that hope flickered and died just as quickly when the elite soldiers from the human army hunted them down.

They killed the rest of the mobs, leaving the bosses alive to face their punishment, or rather, execution. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

The Flaming Knight, as the name suggested, was an empty, bulky suit of animated armor with flames dancing at the top where a head should be. This anatomical structure made it easy for him to kneel on the ground and quiver with fear.

As for the Ghost Specter, it was just a floating, translucent round creature, making it difficult for it to physically kneel, but it lowered itself to the ground in a clear sign that it knew it was about to meet its end.

Not too far away, X looked at them as he stood at the side. His blade, already stained with the blood of other monsters, gleamed in the sunlight, hinting that it was soon going to be used again.

After staring at the monsters for a good while, X finally spoke, but this time, he aimed his blade directly at the Flaming Knight’s chest just to be safe.

While the probability of the monsters fighting back was slim since the entire place had already been surrounded, it was still best to be cautious.

"Unlike the other bosses we have killed, the ones in this area seem to have higher intellect than most. You are capable of speech and smart enough to understand when to flee from a battle. That is not a monster’s way of thinking."

Each word that left X’s mouth scared the living daylights out of the monsters. After all, they knew if the man before them felt like it, he could kill them at any moment.

However, their fear lingered even longer when X suddenly asked them a question that placed them in a compromising position.

"So I will ask you this once, since I know you can very well understand the words that are leaving my mouth. Where is the lair of the Shadow of Victims? Answer truthfully, and i may just spare your lives."

Both the Flaming Knight and the Ghost Specter paused, as that question was even more terrifying than dying at the hands of a human.

To go against a being that powerful...

The Ghost Specter sighed, lowering itself to the ground completely in submission.

"If you wish to kill me, then get on with it. I may fear death, but the wrath of a being like that is something I do not want a part of."

Then the Flaming Knight followed suit.

"I agree. Kill us. That would be much better than answering whatever you just asked."

X narrowed his eyes at their foolish responses. He could practically see the fear of this "Shadow Victim" completely overshadowing the fear they had for him just moments ago.

From the left side of the scene, Sandra chimed in, leaning on her staff.

"You fear this monster more than your own lives?"

To which the Flaming Knight responded instantly,

"I fear that man more than I do your entire army."

Sandra laughed. It was quite ridiculous to hear, especially from a Dungeon Boss of all things.

X, finally having enough of their uselessness, decided it was best for him to end their pitiful lives swiftly.

There was no reason for him to announce it either.

Raising his blade high, he got ready to bring it crashing down when suddenly, from the very front, a bright starlight appeared from nowhere.

All eyes turned towards the light, wondering what it could be as they noticed multiple shadows forming from within the brilliance.

Everyone grabbed their weapons and stood in a defensive position, already understanding that there was a chance it could be a threat approaching.

And they were right.

From the sudden light that appeared, a teenage girl walked out of the portal, holding a red teddy bear in her grasp.

Right behind her were multiple Skeleton Knights, Imps, Vampires, and Magic Beasts, all forming a line behind her, standing in a formation that clearly hinted they were here for business.

Anyone that looked towards them was immediately struck with fear.

But it wasn’t just because of their sheer numbers.

No.

The ridiculous levels hovering above their heads caused many of the soldiers to take a couple of steps back in disbelief.

[Fanny.

Level: 888

HP: Infinite.]

[Imp.

Level: 97

HP: 100/100]

"What in the hell?" Sandra blurted out, slowly understanding the drastic change in the power scale.

As for X, though he tried to maintain his composure for his people, his brows still twitched with nervousness. The numbers he was seeing were unreal and impossible.

If that wasn’t crazy enough, the bear being held in the teenage girl’s hand suddenly spoke.

"Ahaah! Very good, old man! I like your confidence. Bet you didn’t know, but The Supreme One was watching the whole time, and he is very proud of you for not snitching. Good job oddy."

The Flaming Knight and Ghost Specter both turned their gaze to the back.

They were so happy that the monsters from the Nameless Dungeon showed up that actual tears of joy began to fall from their eyes, forgetting the losses they had already suffered from the humans.

"You don’t have to worry anymore. We have come to help you under the orders of the Supreme One. These ones are nothing; these humans look weak. Fanny can kick their butts in seconds."

X frowned deeply.

"Now I understand. You there, and that weird talking bear." He pointed his blade at them. "You are both serving under that Shadow Victim guy, correct? Seems like he is the only one you would praise so highly."

Fanny didn’t speak.

The fact there were so many people present made her even more nervous. As such, her teddy bear handled the conversation for her yet again.

"You are kind of slow, human. Shouldn’t that be obvious from the moment you laid eyes on us? Geez, and you are probably the leader here."

"I see. So he can send his mobs all the way over here. I knew it would get harder, but this is just ridiculous."

Sandra, from the side, tried to whisper to him urgently.

"X, I don’t like this feeling. Let’s retreat. We can come back—"

"We refuse!" Teddy yelled, interrupting her. "No one is running, and there will be no retreating of any kind!"

His high-pitched voice echoed through the entire clearing.

"This is a good chance for Fanny to have her first combat and impress the Supreme One! You will stand there, defend yourselves, and lose as it has been intended! Don’t be a pussy and go running all of a sudden!"

Hearing the bear’s taunts, X sighed.

It was clear in that moment that a battle was unavoidable.

The Flaming Knight and the Ghost Specter took that chance to scramble away, trying their best to keep a huge distance from the impending clash.

The human army, after the news spread of more monsters appearing, had already begun to surround the area. Although they were shocked by the level of the monsters, they still outnumbered them.

As such, they tried to remain confident.

Besides, X’s second-grade artifact was no joke. Higher level or not, there was always a high chance he would win in a one-on-one confrontation with monsters.

"Soldiers!!!" X screamed at the top of his voice.

"Look at them! These creatures, these things, believe they can waltz into our conquered territory and demand we retreat! They dare to insult your courage, your strength, and the countless victories you’ve secured! They think their arbitrary numbers mean anything against the might of the Human Army!"

"We said not to, though," Teddy muttered in a hushed tone.

X ignored the toy. He swept his blade toward the monstrous lineup, the movement sharp and decisive.

"They call us weak! They call us cowards! They underestimate the resolve forged in the fires of a thousand dungeons! Every single monster before you serves a master who hides in the shadows—a coward who sends children and talking plush toys to do his bidding!" X’s voice resonated with absolute authority, cutting through the nervous murmurs of his men.

"We did not claim this land only to surrender it to a handful of high-level thugs! We fight for the future of our world! We fight for dominance! Every life taken here is a message to that fool, the so-called ’Supreme One’, a message written in the blood of his minions: We do not yield!"

The soldiers, initially stunned by the impossibly high levels, felt the fear draining away, replaced by a surge of furious determination.

The arrogance of the teddy bear and the sheer disparity in their enemy’s numbers had been a psychological blow, but X’s words were the antidote.

They were battle-hardened, and the insult to their bravery was a greater motivator than fear.

A unified roar erupted from the human ranks, a deep, guttural sound of affirmation. Their weapons, swords, axes, and magical staves, were raised high, glinting in the pale light.

"Advance!" X commanded, his voice hyping up his men even more.

But as for Fanny...

"Teddy. This man... just called our Lord a fool, right?"

Teddy replied, his button eyes glowing a bit with ominous red light.

"I heard it loud and clear. Let us kill him. Let’s kill him like right now!"
