Lin Shen approached the passageway, staring into the pitch-black darkness, reminiscent of the gates of hell, as a chilly wind blew from inside, causing Lin Shen to involuntarily shiver.

An Zhixue stood to one side, not facing the passageway head-on like Lin Shen, and spoke, “Once the Chief of the Heavenly Institute enters, just follow the passage straight, and you will find the item you are looking for.”

Lin Shen, as if he had not heard, stood in front of the passageway, his eyes fixed intently inside.

He could sense that the wind blowing out from the passageway was abnormal; the coldness seemed to penetrate his bones, making them tremble.

Lin Shen guessed that this wind must contain some of the special energy from within the Gou Li Nest, albeit in small quantities.

He shifted slightly to one side, standing there quietly, waiting for the Evolution Theory to take effect. If Evolution Theory failed to work, he definitely would not enter the Gou Li Nest again.

Seeing such actions from Lin Shen, An Zhixue thought he recognized fear and a reluctance to enter the Gou Li Nest and smiled faintly at the corner of his mouth.

Lin Shen understood his meaning, but showed no intention of backing down and, without a word, descended into the darkness along the staircase.

An Zhixue didn’t dare get close to the passageway, standing off to the side to watch, but Lin Shen’s figure was already out of sight.

Walking with intermittent stops, Lin Shen noticed that the stone walls on both sides of the passageway were carved with many images of Celestials.

Each Celestial image had a different posture, but when he looked at the faces of those Celestial beings, they were all the same person.

The light from Lin Shen’s Carapace illuminated the nearby area, and upon closer inspection, he found that these images probably depicted a Celestial performing some sort of sacrificial ritual.

The further he went downward, the more intense the chilly feeling became, yet it was not the kind of freeze that comes with real coldness, just a bone-penetrating chill.

There was neither ice nor frost inside the cave, and it was somewhat damp.

An Zhixue was right, he just needed to keep walking down the staircase; there were no forks in the path. Although the staircase took several turns, there was only this one path leading downward.

After walking for a while, Lin Shen instead began to feel hotter and hotter, so hot that sweat covered his head, and he wished he could peel off a layer of skin to release some of the heat from his body.

He dared not delay any longer and quickly walked towards the stone coffin. Bending down to look inside, he was startled.

Within the stone coffin was a corpse without facial features, its eerie appearance almost causing Lin Shen to draw his blade in fright.

But upon closer inspection, it wasn’t a Faceless corpse at all, but a statue without carved features.

Embedded in the forehead of this statue was a crystal-like gem, with a faint red glow shimmering within.

Lin Shen examined it closely and found it to be something that resembled a black crystal lotus seed, most likely the Dark Domain Lotus Seed.
