Chapter 2068: Chapter 2131: The Moving Army

The two bypassed a section of the road and continued walking inside. Li Yifei hesitated as the earthen mounds grew more numerous and larger, some even reaching the height of a two-story building, indicating a greater number of insects or ants above.

This is... Li Yifei suddenly saw a pile of white bones, a large pile of white bones. These bones still maintained their original positions, suggesting they seemed to have been in great pain before death.

Just like the ant march they encountered in Vietnam, which devoured the lively forest as it passed through, seeing these white bones reminded Li Yifei of that scene. If... if it’s like that here, then these white bones have traces.

"These are human bones." Xu Shanshan pointed to another smaller pile of bones and said to Li Yifei.

Li Yifei quickly looked over. First, he saw a human skull, with the bones completely gnawed clean without a shred of flesh remaining. The entire skeleton was in a prone position, one hand desperately reaching forward, seemingly expressing the struggle of the devoured person’s final moments.

Xu Shanshan felt a chill from within, realizing this was the so-called "devoured by a million ants," a pain beyond words.

Li Yifei didn’t notice this because he saw a gun, a Type 95 Rifle, lying scattered over ten meters away. He went over and found the gun partially destroyed, its wooden parts eaten away, leaving only the metal parts; the magazine had scattered, with only a few bullets left, the rest likely fired.

Seeing this scene, Li Yifei felt complicated. Xu Shanshan walked over with a necklace, which bore a small bullet engraved with the surname "Wu." This likely belonged to the deceased. Li Yifei took the necklace, held it in his hand, and thought this person was likely one of the first wave of team members or perhaps part of Ninth Brother’s second wave. Regardless of which group, dying here was unsettling to Li Yifei.

However, this also proved Li Yifei’s tracking route was correct; Ninth Brother and his group probably went inside by following this path.

Looking at the white bones, Li Yifei said in his heart: "Once I rescue everyone, I’ll find a way to bring you back to our country."

No, damn it! Just as Li Yifei stood up, he suddenly cursed internally and quickly transmitted his voice: "We need to retreat, this place is a hunting ground for those creatures."

Xu Shanshan’s face turned pale as she pointed at the nearest mound, saying to Li Yifei: "It seems too late, the mound is moving."

"Damn!" Run, go back, head to the creek!" Li Yifei put the bullets in his pocket and pushed Xu Shanshan to run back.

Meanwhile, the red mounds around them were all moving, the countless insects on the mounds were also moving, making a rustling sound. As they ran, the initially creeping red mounds seemed to swell instantly and then quickly dissipate.

Li Yifei clearly saw the layer of ant-like insects instantly emerging from the mound and crawling down rapidly, aiming directly at him and Xu Shanshan.

One or two are already very noisy, hundreds or thousands even noisier, but when there’s no end to them... that’s the noise surrounding them now.

A lot had already appeared at their feet; these were not common ants but unknown insects that looked like ants, comparable in size but felt more dangerous to Li Yifei.

These creatures seemed to eat everything, including the dead’s clothes and wood.

"Don’t stop, keep running!" Li Yifei said as he swung his sword incessantly, cutting down to the sides without hesitation. Each slash took out a large number of insects, but it was ineffective because there were too many. Even as they crushed countless insects with each step, more would swarm over swiftly.

They had invaded the insect’s nest; for convenience, let’s call these creatures ants, though their appearance is somewhat similar, but Li Yifei had never seen this appearance in the outside world.

These creatures were fearless, rushing toward food desperately at an impressive speed. Despite Xu Shanshan and Li Yifei moving fast enough, they were still blocked by these creatures.

Xu Shanshan quickly shouted: "You take the right, I’ll take the left; let’s charge forward."

Li Yifei naturally agreed; handling both sides alone was difficult, but with Xu Shanshan covering one side, it was much easier. Blue and white Sword Aura flickered rapidly around them; tens of thousands of ants were probably killed in this short time.

Yet, looking onward, there were still countless ants, layered and overwhelming.

Suddenly Xu Shanshan’s foot slipped forward, her body flying sideways, as she had stepped on an empty spot, losing her balance. Li Yifei rushed to power his legs and grab Xu Shanshan’s backpack, pulling her back.

If one were to fall here, even if they could be rescued, they would likely suffer severe bites from those terrifying ants.

Xu Shanshan’s face was pale, unable to speak, she continued to rush forward. Fortunately, the two had already dashed over a hundred meters, reducing their distance to the stream, and soon they could break out of the encirclement of these terrifying creatures.

"Die!" Li Yifei roared, infusing True Qi into his long sword, executing a Crescent Slash, smashing the body of an ant attacking from the side, instantly clearing out a patch of space on that side. Sadly, within two seconds, the empty space would be surrounded again by the following ants.

No wonder those giant lizards dared not enter the mangrove forest; it’s because it hides such creatures. Even with their terrifying strength and thick hides, they couldn’t withstand these things’ bites. Li Yifei had just seen several huge white skeletons, seemingly those of giant lizards that mistakenly wandered in, only to be devoured by the ant swarm, ending up as bare bones.

Two minutes later, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan broke through the encirclement. Although there were still red ants here, there were far fewer, and the stream was not far off. They had to reach it quickly, and Li Yifei seemed to understand what those fish were feeding on.

"Jump over!" Li Yifei shouted. Xu Shanshan, running ahead, leaped hard, jumping directly over the stream. Li Yifei followed closely, and the two jumped to the opposite bank. Turning back, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan’s faces changed. At least five or six of the red mounds they previously saw were moving over, with a half-meter thick army of ants marching ahead, making a clacking sound as if waving pincers, not slowing even when reaching the stream.

"Can it be stopped?" Xu Shanshan instinctively asked.

Li Yifei shook his head and uncertainly said, "I don’t know, let’s see first."

He truly didn’t know, unsure if they could be stopped, as the ants’ vanguard had already rushed over. Upon seeing the stream, these creatures jumped right in.

Li Yifei clenched his fists, whether they could be stopped depended on this moment. The first swarm of countless ants jumped into the stream, covering the surface, bringing a moment of relief to Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan as they witnessed a surprising scene.

The fish that originally swam leisurely in the river, as if commanded, became lively suddenly, rushing over from all directions with mouths agape, gathering around the surface, easily devouring several to dozens of ants in one bite, swiftly swallowing them before opening and closing their mouths again. Some fish even leapt out of the water, greedily feasting on the ants, enjoying a grand meal.

It seemed this was a rare feast they didn’t want to miss a moment of.

Xu Shanshan couldn’t help but cover her mouth, her eyes filled with amazement. She now understood that these fish fed on ants, they roamed here slowly, even the two fish that she killed hardly moved when her sword pierced them. But now, the fish were incredibly fast, with swift movements.

The splashing sounds continued, the entire stream seemed to boil, a gluttonous feast began, tens of thousands of large fish against countless red ants. In terms of size, the fish had the advantage, but in numbers, the red ants far outnumbered the fish.

"Will they be able to eat them all?" Xu Shanshan hadn’t been happy for long when she raised this question.

Li Yifei chuckled, saying, "We did a good deed, providing these fish with food."

The splashing sounds continued, with the red ants’ pursuing army endlessly jumping in. These creatures had no concept of death, being eaten one by one with the following troops continuing onward.

However, eating like this, the fish would eventually be full, while the red ants seemed endless. If they got full, wouldn’t they just come charging over... Xu Shanshan turned to look at Li Yifei, only to see his brows furrowed, the smile gone from his face.

"I’m getting that feeling of being watched again, but they should be far away!" Li Yifei said in a low voice.

"Behind us?" Xu Shanshan asked.

"Yes, behind us," Li Yifei nodded.

"What should we do? We’re blocked by ants ahead, only a retreat or crossing sideways through another forest is possible. But I found that the deeper you go in there yesterday, the more of those unicorn giant lizards there are," Xu Shanshan said.

Li Yifei shook his head, saying, "No rush. If these ants can’t make it over, we’ll figure something out. If pushed, we’ll set it on fire!"

The mangrove forest’s fallen leaves were abundant and dry; if set afire, many red ants could indeed be burned to death. However, it was uncertain if it would spark a larger forest fire elsewhere, and unless absolutely necessary, Li Yifei didn’t want to resort to such a measure.
