Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 2070 - 2133: The Lost Island
Li Yifei saw the black color he had seen before again, and among the snakes, the largest statue was as long as ten meters. It was a snake as long as the Green Anaconda in the Amazon’s primitive forest, but the body of this snake was very thin. Despite the length, the body was only as thick as a thigh. Li Yifei couldn’t imagine the attack power of such a snake.
Maybe this kind of snake also specializes in mental attacks, Li Yifei thought.
Then, Li Yifei saw frogs or toads with sharp claws, similarly over a meter in size, while the smaller ones were only about half a meter. Li Yifei found that his previous understanding was not entirely correct because there were smaller statues here that he had automatically ignored from afar. Only upon closer inspection did he realize there were many smaller statues.
For instance, he walked to the statue group represented by the red ant swarm and saw a platform on which tens of thousands of red ants were carved. These creatures were so vividly sculpted, as if they were real. No, Li Yifei just thought of reaching out but suddenly stopped cold.
"Shanshan, don’t touch them," Li Yifei turned his head to see Xu Shanshan reaching out to touch as well, and hurriedly reminded her.
"What’s wrong?" Xu Shanshan asked in confusion. Li Yifei signaled her to come over, pointed at the ant sculpture group, and said, "Take a closer look."
Xu Shanshan quickly walked over to look, soon discovering something unusual. Pointing at the ants, Xu Shanshan was somewhat stammering as she said, "Are these statues... living animals that were directly sealed?"
Indeed, the two saw that these ants’ bodies still retained a kind of red liquid that hadn’t solidified.
"Don’t touch them. Let’s get through here and keep moving inside. I worry there’s something strange about them, and if these things come to life, then we..." Li Yifei didn’t finish his sentence, but Xu Shanshan felt a chill in her heart, understood the key within, put away her curiosity, and quickly followed Li Yifei farther inside.
With this discovery, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan increasingly believed that the other sculptures were probably sealed living beings as well. Otherwise, they wouldn’t appear so lifelike, with every hair clearly visible, facial expressions, and details inside mouths all vividly shown.
Looking straight into their eyes, one could even see fear in those pairs of eyes.
It was unknown what these creatures experienced in life or how they were sealed here. Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan had both admiration and some fear for the caster’s abilities. If the person with such powers wanted to deal with the two of them, it shouldn’t be very difficult.
Li Yifei found the black bat creature and carefully took in its appearance. Moving forward, Li Yifei felt a slight joy in his heart; he finally saw what he wanted to find - it was a mysterious shadow.
Li Yifei led Xu Shanshan quickly over to take a close look. It was only then they discovered what the shadow from last night looked like. It appeared to be some sort of flying squirrel, pitch black all over. Despite the close distance and its stationary state, its exact appearance was still unclear.
Its entire body was black, with a sensation reminiscent of Su Lio’s Mohist War before unsealing, surrounded by black mist as if it could absorb sunlight, making its exact appearance indistinct.
Thinking this, Li Yifei suddenly had a hunch that perhaps this thing was related to the Mohist War. The more he gazed at the black mist, the more similar it seemed. He shared his suspicions with Xu Shanshan, who hesitated for a moment, then nodded after looking for a while and said, "Hearing you say that, I think so too."
"It shouldn’t be that coincidental," Li Yifei doubted again.
"Given this place’s mystery, it might really be related to the Mohists, as they are renowned for creating mechanical devices. If your dream this morning was true, then it’s even more likely the Mohists constructed this place."
"Haha, that would be great. We can also look for the other two pieces of Mohist War," Li Yifei laughed, but he didn’t have much hope in his heart; it was inherently an impossible task.
Just by looking, they couldn’t identify the shadow’s weaknesses because the specific appearance of the shadow couldn’t be clarified. Li Yifei watched it for a while, then shook his head, and he and Xu Shanshan continued forward.
These monsters were merely for visual pleasure. What Li Yifei truly wanted to find was the entity with green eyes, which truly worried him the most, especially having encountered it twice. It made Li Yifei feel as if that thing was tracking them, making him nervously glance back after a short distance. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
The sculpture maze was vast. The two walked within, needing to find the right direction, or it would be easy to get lost. Fortunately, they didn’t encounter anything like a Formation Method, and Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan spent over an hour walking from one end of the sculpture maze to the other. Then, Li Yifei designated another direction, and the two re-entered the maze, turning towards the deepest part, where there were the most sculptures, which was also a path leading to the center of the island.
Unfortunately, after walking till the end, they never found the green eyes Li Yifei was searching for, or anything akin to those eyes. Although there were many monster animals, none had such terrifying eyes.
"Honey, come take a look at this, one is missing here," Xu Shanshan called out to Li Yifei from over ten meters away, pointing at a distant statue.
Li Yifei walked over and saw that it was a gigantic statue. By looking at the pedestal, he knew it was quite large, likely standing eight or even ten meters tall, maybe even bigger.
"Why is this spot empty?" Xu Shanshan patted the pedestal and circled it, speaking to herself unconsciously.
This was the only empty pedestal the two had encountered, and it seemed to have held something massive.
There were no traces on the pedestal. Just as Li Yifei was about to speak, Xu Shanshan said, "That big thing that’s gone, could it be that big eye that’s been following us?"
Li Yifei replied, "Now that you mention it, it’s possible, but we don’t even know what that big eye really is, let alone how to defend against it."
"Honey, I think we shouldn’t be focusing on the big eye right now."
"Hmm?"
Xu Shanshan continued, "We should think about how this thing ran off. If it can come to life, then what about the others?"
Whoosh, the air seemed to freeze, and Li Yifei felt a chill run down his back. If these things could really come to life, then walking among them earlier, even looking around carelessly, was like dancing on a knife’s edge.
If they had triggered those creatures and got surrounded, it would be like a level-one newbie with a peachwood sword challenging a top-level boss dragon.
Luckily nothing happened. Fortunately, those things didn’t wake up, otherwise, no matter how skilled and fast they were, they would be doomed.
Seeing Xu Shanshan’s changed expression, Li Yifei guessed that his face didn’t look much better. He didn’t want to stay here for a moment longer, so he quickly pulled Xu Shanshan away from the statues.
"This is... hey!" After passing through the statue group, they came to a rather wide path paved with stone slabs, without a trace of weeds, preserved by some unknown method. Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan walked along it, confirmed there were no formation methods, and after ten minutes, they emerged onto a clearing filled with flowers. Li Yifei’s eyes lit up as he clearly saw two people in special combat uniforms standing amidst the flowers, faintly visible. Whether these two were alive, at least it proved that Li Yifei was on the right path, as the team members had passed through here.
Perhaps they too were forced here, which is why Li Yifei could see dead bodies along the way. Of course, if these two were alive, it would be even better.
Xu Shanshan saw them too, excitedly pointing at the two in the flower field. Li Yifei nodded and whispered, "I’ll go over and take a look. You stay here and watch. It’s better if they’re alive, but if they’re the kind I encountered... so you stay behind for now."
Upon hearing this, Xu Shanshan immediately understood that Li Yifei was worried that they might be zombies and would frighten her.
Xu Shanshan was indeed quite scared, so she nodded and said, "Then be careful, honey. If they’re not alive, act quickly."
"I know, you be careful too." Li Yifei said, setting down his backpack and slowly walked into the flower field with his sword. The flowers in the field varied in height, some reaching about two meters, others just a few dozen centimeters. As Li Yifei walked in, he discovered that there were actually several kinds of rare herbs growing among the flowers. Finding one or two of these rare herbs outside would be considered a huge discovery, but here, as Li Yifei glanced around, there were patches of them, not just a few, but hundreds, even thousands of them.
Resisting the urge to pick them, Li Yifei continued forward, seeing even more types of herbs and rare flowers. It seemed this must be the flower field on the island; originally planted by someone unknown, filled with so many rare flowers and plants.
The two people had their backs to him, heads raised, looking in the other direction of the flower field, their bodies swaying gently, looking almost dazed. Li Yifei approached and gave a light cough. The two turned to face him at the same time. At first, Li Yifei was happy upon seeing their eyes, but when they only glanced at him and turned back, gazing into the distance, Li Yifei furrowed his brow.
Their clothes were a bit disheveled, but there were no signs of injury. Although they had guns slung over their shoulders, they maintained a posture of holding them, unlike the first person he met whose ammunition was almost depleted.
With a sigh, it seemed these two were also affected, becoming zombies, or simply reanimated corpses. Li Yifei felt a twinge of sorrow. Since they were dead, there was no need for courtesy. Leaving them standing here could damage the precious flowers and plants.
