Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 2072 - 2135: Xiang Qian, Onward
Hearing this information from these people, Li Yifei found it somewhat useful. Half an hour later, after the group had eaten their fill, they all got up and headed towards the place of their dreams to get rich. ππ£πππ°πππ§πΌπππ.π°π¨π¦
Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan didnβt rush to follow. They had no idea how far it was to the center of the island. Li Yifei didnβt think the journey would be smooth. It was better to let these cannon fodder clear the path, as trailing right behind them could be dangerous.
The two also finished their meal and sat cross-legged to restore their bodies to the best condition. They briefly summarized the information they had heard and confirmed that the grand hall was indeed on this island, or at least thatβs what the information those people received said.
"Should we join the fun?" Xu Shanshan said with interest.
Li Yifei first shook his head, then nodded, leaving Xu Shanshan puzzled. She continued to ask, "Husband, what do you mean? Are we going or not?"
"We should go. The first team to land on the island may have been wiped out. We canβt save them, so the only option is to save the second team, which includes Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother. However, for now, weβre not on the same path as them. If theyβre still alive, we might run into them by heading inwards. If theyβre dead, so be it; it just means we came too late."
Xu Shanshan nodded, saying, "I hope theyβre all safe."
"Letβs hope so." Li Yifei drank the last drop of water from his bottle, thought for a moment, and then stuffed the empty bottle back into his backpack. Of course, after these people had eaten and drunk, they left behind quite a mess, polluting this island that possibly hadnβt been visited for countless years.
An hour later, the two continued to move inward.
This stretch of road is about two kilometers long, with woods on both sides. Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan walked slowly. Although others had already cleared the way, based on previous experience, the woods probably hid more dangers. The best method was to ensure safety before proceeding.
As expected, Li Yifei saw two corpses and marks of a fight. The surrounding trees also bore many bullet holes, but the two hadnβt heard any gunshots earlier.
The two dead had their food and ammunition stripped from them. Li Yifei recognized one of them, a short man who had the loudest voice at the stone house earlier. It was he who revealed their groupβs size. Over a hundred people had dwindled to this small number.
With two more dead now, Li Yifei checked and, finding no useful information, stood up straight.
Xu Shanshan also shook her head. She had checked a woman wearing a tiger-skin vest, with one shoulder bare. The woman had short hair and was covered in tattoos, looking quite intimidating, with a fresh wound on her face. Her backpack and similar items had been taken, along with anything useful, so Xu Shanshan couldnβt find anything either.
The two continued forward and soon came across three more bodies, similarly dead on the road with seemingly minor injuries.
Another new creature. Li Yifei looked at their fatal neck wounds, trying to identify what kind of creature it could be.
It seemed to be something that could fly; if it were other large animals, the bodies would likely be torn apart, and the surrounding traces wouldnβt be so small.
Since it could fly... hmm, Li Yifei quickly recalled two statues he had seen before, one depicting an insect, possibly the smallest in the group of statues, looking somewhat like a centipede with many legs but also with wings. Seeing the wounds on these people, Li Yifei could easily picture a scenario.
The forest hid many of these flying centipedes. They had sharp mouths, slicing through peopleβs throats as they darted by, perhaps with venom in them, as the blood from the wounds was red mixed with black, and black mixed with red.
In the blink of an eye, five out of more than twenty people had died, yet they still didnβt retreat, continuing to rush inward.
Li Yifei glanced at the vigilant Xu Shanshan and whispered, "Letβs take it slow, and be cautious of the trees on both sides."
As they continued forward, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan finally saw the flying insects in the forest, moving extremely fast as they dove from the treetops. It seemed their flying ability wasnβt very strong, as they depended on diving from high places and could only make small directional changes in the air.
Though fast, they werenβt too fast for Xu Shanshan and Li Yifei. With their reaction speeds, they could easily handle them. With a wave of the long sword in hand, another insect was sliced in two, posing no significant threat. Xu Shanshan even treated it like a fun fruit-slicing game, her Blue Glow flashing as several insects met their end.
The two walked side by side, one defending one side, and it was easy to fend off attacks. However, for those people, itβs probably not that easy, so losing a few lives is normal.
The insects possess intelligence. After repeatedly failing to attack the two, and being killed in return, they no longer dared to rush forward.
Li Yifei originally wanted to test whether imposing might have any effect on these insects, but before he could try, the insects didnβt dare to attack him. It seems these creatures know whom they can attack and whom they cannot.
With the insects no longer bothering them, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan felt a lot more at ease. After walking several hundred meters, they saw three more corpses, slaughtered by those flying centipede-like insects.
This time, it seemed the people finally reached their limit. They didnβt even have time to take their belongings from the three corpses on the ground. They fled hurriedly forward, trying to quickly get out of the zone occupied by the strange insects. By now, they probably had only a dozen or so people left. If they lost more, there would be no need to talk about reaching the innermost treasure; even if a monster randomly appeared, they might all be wiped out.
They found a machete on one person, stained with blood. It seemed they had encountered other monsters before. Lucky enough to rush to the stone house, it was already quite difficult, but unfortunately, they still died here.
Li Yifei had no respect for these people, seeing them dead thoroughly. He and Xu Shanshan continued moving forward.
Ahead was an uphill path, a small mountain. As Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan ascended, they faintly heard sounds of killing. Upon crossing the hill, they saw four corpses on the slope path, along with two statues of saber-toothed tiger-like creatures Li Yifei had seen before. As they walked past, those two creatures were thoroughly dead, but one of the four people on the ground was still not fully dead, eyes wide open, clutching his chest. Upon seeing Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan appear, the personβs eyes widened even more.
"Xiang Qian! Xiang Qian!" The person managed to utter two words before drawing his last breath.
Again, to the front? Li Yifei nodded, responding to the corpse, "Understood."
Xu Shanshanβs attention was on those two saber-toothed tiger-like creatures, with bodies over two to three meters long. Their sharp teeth almost shredded the injured individualsβ bodies, showing their sharpness and immense strength.
Yet another four corpses, so those people ahead are likely only about ten left. If it continues a few more times, theyβre done for. Over a hundred people came, now only about ten remain; the loss ratio is way too high.
Among them are experts, as Li Yifei observed at the stone house. Even with experts present, such huge losses occurred. What about Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother? This is Li Yifeiβs real concern. With an ordinary expertβs strength, many encounters on this island would be hard to defeat, not to mention the solo giant lizard. Even with Li Yifeiβs True Qi skills, his Sword Aura couldnβt slice its armored skin, showing how difficult these creatures are.
Over this hill, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan encountered monsters again, saber-toothed tiger-like creatures. Two rushed out from behind trees, baring fangs and charging forward. Luckily, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan were prepared and noticed them early, so they werenβt flustered. They drew their swords, calmly dealing with them, and quickly killed the two beasts. On their journey, they slaughtered five that foolishly charged. Finally, they reached a lake, a freshwater lake with clear water. The riverbankβs bottom was visible for over ten meters, indicating the lakeβs breadth. Looking across the lake, the other shore was at least twenty kilometers away, hazy and hard to gauge the exact distance. They exchanged glances, realizing if they had far to go, they likely wouldnβt make it today, as roaming the forest at night was exceedingly dangerous.
After checking the daylight, Li Yifei suggested, "Letβs find a place to stay here tonight."
"Not pursuing those people?"
"Weβll pursue them, but rest first. If theyβre smart, they wonβt choose to travel at night. Only a dozen of them dare to walk at night, that would be akin to suicide." Li Yifei remarked.
Xu Shanshan nodded and said, "Iβll check the lake if there are fish inside. Dear, you choose our nightβs lodging nearby."
Preferably on a tree, some distance above ground would be ideal, though the lakeside trees werenβt thick, making such a spot challenging to find.
Li Yifei picked a spot and called Xu Shanshan over.
"Thereβs nothing, not even small fish." Xu Shanshan pouted in disappointment, hoping to catch a few large fish for dinner. But despite the waterβs clarity and depth visibility, there were no fish.
Li Yifei chuckled, "Maybe the fish were all eaten."
Li Yifei didnβt expect his casual remark would be verified. When night fell, they lay on a large tree capable of viewing the vast lake, offering an open view. Then, in the middle of the night, they heard a loud sound of water.
