Chapter 2075: Chapter 2138: Foolish Birds and Leopards

If it’s incomprehensible, then stop thinking about it for a while. What Li Yifei needs to do now is reach the center of the island with Xu Shanshan. If they can encounter Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother, that would be great, but if not, at least they should see whether there’s a great hall in the center of the island. If Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother unfortunately met with disaster, Li Yifei also wants to know where they died, how they died, so he can give an account when he returns, or even, if they were killed by some kind of monster, Li Yifei would seek revenge for them.

This island is too suspicious. There are no common animals on the island, not even insects or reptiles. Instead, anything encountered here is not found outside and can be said to have extremely strong lethality and danger. Even any one of these could cause an incident if they enter the normal world, and although a single entity, no matter how formidable, would still die under concentrated modern weaponry, if those abnormal red ants or scorpion monsters suddenly appeared in the outside world, it would be a disaster.

So this island is bizarre, but Li Yifei couldn’t communicate with the outside or get information from Murong Yuanqing and others.

Two days later, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan were staying on a large rock when suddenly several snakes, more than five or six meters in length and slender in build, slithered out from who knows where nearby. Calling them snakes might not be accurate because they had four legs and moved by using both their legs and bodies. The four legs were very short, and their mouths spat out snake-like tongues.

Throughout their journey, the duo encountered four different types of monsters, all different from the animals known in the outside world. For instance, they saw huge rats, resembling the mutated giant rats often described in zoos as having undergone nuclear radiation, except these were one or two times larger, with long sharp teeth likely capable of breaking stones, and they were extremely bloodthirsty and aggressive. Fortunately, they acted alone and didn’t cause much trouble for the two.

For example, there were insect-like creatures similar to grasshoppers, also bloodthirsty, but similarly afraid of fire. Once a fire was ignited, these creatures would not attack humans but instead crazily plunge into the fire, soon filling the air with crackling sounds and a barbecue-like aroma.

Another creature was like a huge pig but with a long mouth and tusks, its forelimbs strong while its hind limbs were relatively short, hindering its ability to run. Initially thought to be herbivorous, it turned out not to be, as it was carnivorous.

Then there was a type of flightless bird, somewhat resembling an ostrich, but with a shorter neck and legs. This bird could sprint well, with a sharp head and beak. When Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan encountered them, they frantically rushed towards them as if their butts had been poked.

Regrettably, they had poor aim and could not turn. So, when encountering a large tree, they would directly run into it, their beaks embedding themselves in the tree, which explained why those tree trunks were festooned with bird carcasses.

It seemed that these creatures had a high reproductive capacity; otherwise, given their death rate, they would have been extinct long ago.

The previously mentioned creature with a long pig-like snout also preyed on these birds, although there were cases where birds impaled them, causing them to bleed or die from infection.

In short, none of the animals here looked normal.

As for these four-legged snakes, Li Yifei didn’t know how to describe them. They tried lifting half their bodies to climb the rock and attack but, unfortunately, lacked the strength and had to fall back halfway.

"Watch out!" Li Yifei warned, pulling Xu Shanshan back. If these snakes were merely naive, they would probably have died long ago.

Just as Xu Shanshan stepped back, one of the four-legged snakes opened its mouth and shot a stream of black liquid toward where Xu Shanshan had been standing.

The black water splashed some distance and landed on the stone, causing it to sizzle upon contact.

Xu Shanshan turned pale. Clearly, the black water was highly corrosive. If Li Yifei hadn’t pulled her back quickly enough just now, her clothes might have been instantly corroded.

As soon as the first four-legged snake attacked, the surrounding ones also launched their saliva attacks. The black, highly corrosive liquid shot towards them, forcing Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan to continuously retreat until Li Yifei couldn’t help but jump from the other end, slicing one of the four-legged snakes with his sword, while on Xu Shanshan’s side, a blue glow erupted, killing several four-legged snakes daring to spit saliva at her.

"This place isn’t safe; it might be a snake pit!" Li Yifei remarked after surveying the area, noticing similar four-legged snakes in the sparse grass.

Xu Shanshan glanced at the sizzling stone and said, "Indeed, it isn’t safe!"

The two continued forward, now quite close to the island’s center according to the stone map, maybe just a day away. These past few days, they had been rushing, reducing their rest time significantly. They initially planned to rest here, but due to the encounter with four-legged snakes, that wasn’t possible.

After another half day of travel, they arrived at a relatively safe place—a village made of stone houses. This was the third stone house village they had encountered in the past few days. This one was larger, with twice as many houses as the first stone village, and like the others, it was deserted and eerily silent, apparently uninhabited for many years.

They decided to rest here for the night, experiencing a peaceful night for the first time as the monsters seemed unable to enter residential areas, making it very safe here.

At dawn, they packed up, knowing it would take less than half a day to reach the island’s center.

After traveling about a thousand meters, they heard sounds of fighting, human shouts mixed with monster roars from within the forest ahead. They hastened their pace, quickly reaching the scene through the dense foliage.

Two people were battling tiger-like creatures. The creatures were incredibly fast, yet the two humans were fending them off skillfully, standing back-to-back while waving swords, keeping the leaping tigers at bay.

The two, however, were in a precarious situation. Their strength would be insufficient once they tire, and then the tigers would leap in for the kill.

Li Yifei recognized these two individuals as members of a group they had encountered before.

"Should we save them?" Xu Shanshan asked after identifying them.

Li Yifei frowned, saying, "Let’s observe a bit more." They were part of a group of over a hundred who came seeking fortune on this island, but now likely only these two remained alive. Li Yifei didn’t know what to feel about them.

Soon, one of the tigers pinned down one of the men, biting his throat.

"Forget it, I’ll go!" Li Yifei exclaimed, darting out immediately. The remaining person was in a critical state. Without assistance, he could be overwhelmed by the three tigers any moment. In his desolation, Li Yifei arrived, his sword flickering, and thrust into a tiger’s eye, causing blood to spurt out. He then kicked the tiger’s neck, sending its body flying before landing another kick against a leaping tiger.

Using this momentum, Li Yifei leaped high, slashing out with his sword. These tigers lacked the giant horned lizards’ or scorpion monsters’ defenses; where his sword went, the sharp blade cut through with ease.

Two tigers were struck within a few seconds, crying out in agony, while the third, preoccupied with mauling the other man, furiously lunged at the disturbance.

Alas, Li Yifei was quicker, stabbing into the leaping tiger’s neck, forcing it back.

The rescued man was in shock, unable to believe he was saved at the brink of death. Overwhelmed with emotion, he knelt, tearfully thanking Li Yifei.

Li Yifei sheathed his sword, standing before him, asking, "Are there only you two left?"

"No, there’s one more. He escaped while I and Gis were trapped by these three tigers. Thank you, without your intervention, I’d be dead now!" babbled the man, adding, "I’m Babuda, from the Philippines!"

Babuda was also an expert, at least in the Philippines, yet even joining forces with Gis, they barely matched a tiger, whereas this Huaxia man effortlessly dealt with three, showing a substantial power disparity. Babuda harbored no ill will anymore.

Li Yifei nodded as Xu Shanshan emerged from the forest. Babuda was visibly startled again, seeing how these two managed to get here alone, in stark contrast to their group of over a hundred, who perished on their way here...

"Who was the person that ran?" Li Yifei asked.

Babuda quickly replied, "He’s...the organizer of our venture, named Sang Ye, our strongest. He organized the journey here, claiming there was wealth beyond measure to acquire and that we’d be wealthy beyond belief upon returning. We were initially skeptical, but Sang Ye’s convincing manner moved us to come. After many died and witnessing the weird creatures, we were certain treasure existed, particularly after seeing those statues..."

From Babuda’s account, Li Yifei reconfirmed his previous suspicions; the leader seemed to have some knowledge, which spurred this expedition. Little did they expect the island’s monsters were so formidable, leaving over a hundred dead, with few survivors, as the tiger creatures dispatched the remaining members, leaving only one to flee.
