Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 2079 - 2142: Before the Hall of All Beings
Dead! Li Yifei gritted his teeth as he looked at his comrade named Xu Ning, clenching his fists tightly. He had already found the person, but the other was still dead! This made Li Yifei feel distressed.
But the other’s injuries were indeed too severe, and he only had one breath left, which had just been used up; that breath was no more.
Xu Shanshan bit her lip, walked over, and patted Li Yifei on the back, comforting him, "Honey, there are still others."
"Yes, there are still others!" Li Yifei nodded.
Li Yifei closed his eyes tightly; after several seconds, he slowly opened them, sighed lightly, and reached out to close the warrior’s eyes, realizing he had desperately tried to remind him to be careful.
But careful of what? To come here, he must have gone through many hardships, faced countless battles; the injuries on his body told the story, with not only a massive penetrating wound in the lungs but also wounds on the stomach, lower abdomen, limbs, and even a large gash on the face, some of which were already inflamed and infected.
To make it here only to die now, Li Yifei slowly stood up, looked at Xu Ning, and said, "Rest in peace, my comrade."
Xu Shanshan crouched down, removed a jade-tied necklace hanging around Xu Ning’s neck, carefully put it away, and said, "We will give this to your family. If... if we have a chance to return here, we will bring you back to our country."
Just like the corpses of the comrades they had encountered before, Li Yifei initially thought about seeing if he could take them back, but as he delved deeper, he realized it was almost impossible now. The island itself was strange enough, and by the time they returned, the bodies might have been devoured, leaving not even the bones.
He told me to be careful, but of what precisely? Was it the monsters in the mountains, or perhaps... should I be wary of others?
Walking for some distance, Li Yifei was still immersed in these thoughts, pondering Xu Ning’s words.
"Did you notice his wounds?" Li Yifei suddenly turned back and asked Xu Shanshan.
Xu Shanshan was stunned for a moment, thought about it, and shook her head, saying, "I didn’t pay much attention. The wound was large and was a penetrating wound, as if something had directly pierced through..."
Li Yifei had also forgotten to pay attention to this matter, but based on memory, he agreed with Xu Shanshan’s statement, so he nodded and said, "This is most likely it, injured by some monsters, and it should have happened here. Although he was wounded, walking this far proved those wounds weren’t fatal yet..."
At this point, Li Yifei suddenly paused, thinking about whether Xu Ning’s death had anything to do with those big eyes that made even him feel a tinge of unease.
Shaking his head, Li Yifei realized there was much he didn’t know, and he couldn’t guess whether these speculations were correct.
"Seventh Brother!" After walking for another half an hour or so, Li Yifei suddenly shouted, as a silhouette flashed by in the woods ahead. It felt particularly familiar, like Seventh Brother, but when he called out, the figure quickly disappeared. Li Yifei broke into a run, chasing far, but couldn’t find that silhouette.
Xu Shanshan also quickly caught up, seeing that Li Yifei hadn’t caught up with the silhouette, she asked, "Are you sure it’s Seventh Brother?"
Li Yifei shook his head, saying, "Not sure, just felt like it, but I indeed saw a figure."
However, Li Yifei quickly said, "I must have been mistaken, so we should be more careful. Unexplained shadows appearing here likely aren’t simple. The shadow could be some kind of monster."
"Hmm!" Xu Shanshan grasped her sword and said, "Let’s continue upwards; we might have deviated from our path but continuing would lead us to that palace."
The two had no choice but to continue upward. Suddenly, the trees in front of them thinned, and after a few steps, they felt a brightness before them. A few leaps forward, and Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan were suddenly greeted by a vast square.
The square was larger than a football field, flat in the middle, surrounded by misty clouds. No wonder Li Yifei had felt in his dream that this grand hall was situated in a basin, with faint mountain peaks dimly visible around.
This was precisely the scene Li Yifei had seen in his dream, the same square.
Xu Shanshan looked at Li Yifei, who nodded and said, "This is the place!"
A grand palace gate stood in the distance, but unlike in the dream, this gate was closed, revealing nothing about the inside.
The two slowly walked forward, and Li Yifei saw some items in front of the gate. Together with Xu Shanshan, they walked over, picking up items like water bottles and some packaged fast food from the ground.
Seeing these, Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan felt invigorated, proving they hadn’t come to the wrong place. Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother had arrived here.
But where are they? Li Yifei looked around; there was nothing in sight—could they have gone inside?
Li Yifei walked up to the door of the grand hall. From a distance, its height wasn’t as apparent, but standing in front of it, Li Yifei had to tilt his head back to take it all in. There was no gap between the two doors, preventing Li Yifei from seeing inside. However, in his dream, the door had at least a sliver of an opening, offering a vague glimpse of the vast, expansive interior.
Li Yifei attempted to push the door, but found it immovable. The door’s weight was unknown. Seeing his struggle, Xu Shanshan came over to help, but even together they couldn’t budge it.
"There must be some way to open it!" Xu Shanshan remarked.
"Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother might have gone inside... so there has to be a way!" Li Yifei murmured as he scanned the door, while next to him Xu Shanshan inadvertently looked back, letting out a soft gasp and tugging on Li Yifei’s sleeve, saying, "Honey, look over there!"
"Hmm?" Li Yifei turned his head to see that a few people had suddenly appeared at the platform’s edge. They wore special operations uniforms and were walking toward them.
Li Yifei was overjoyed; these were indeed Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother. He immediately jumped down from the door’s front, calling out, "Seventh Brother, Ninth Brother, I’ve come to assist you."
Seventh Brother and Ninth Brother seemed to be in relatively good shape, though they were also injured.
"Yifei, you’re here!" Seventh Brother looked at Li Yifei, nodding to him, though his eyes lacked much excitement.
Noticing this lukewarm response from Seventh Brother Shen Tianfang, Li Yifei turned his attention to Ninth Brother Zheng Feihu, whose eyes also showed no enthusiasm, and his face was devoid of expression. Li Yifei was puzzled and looked at the people accompanying them, seeing they all wore the same blank look.
What is going on? I’ve come to rescue you. Even if you’re not overjoyed, you should at least be a bit happier. From what Li Yifei knew of Zheng Feihu and Shen Tianfang, these were straightforward men who usually wore their emotions on their sleeves.
"Ninth Brother, are you all okay?" Li Yifei turned to Zheng Feihu again. This group was now down to seven people, each injured to some extent. Shen Tianfang and Zheng Feihu had several bloody wounds, and their clothes were in tatters, indicating they had faced numerous dangers. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Seeing them like this, Li Yifei was genuinely concerned.
Zheng Feihu shook his head and said, "We’re all fine, you and..."
"My... my wife!" Li Yifei introduced.
"You should head back!" Zheng Feihu sighed.
Why? Li Yifei raised his eyebrows. He felt something was amiss when he saw them, but couldn’t pinpoint what. The more he listened, the stronger this feeling grew.
"Seventh Brother, Ninth Brother, I was tasked by a leader to find you on this island. It’s too dangerous here. Now that I’ve found you, let’s quickly devise a plan to leave." Li Yifei suggested.
Zheng Feihu and Shen Tianfang simultaneously shook their heads, even the five men behind them wore somber expressions and shook their heads.
Seeing these expressions made Li Yifei even more baffled. He glanced back at Xu Shanshan, who understood Li Yifei’s signal.
Li Yifei continued, "Seventh Brother, Ninth Brother, what exactly happened? Tell me. I might not be the best, but I can handle myself. If something’s wrong, let me know."
Shen Tianfang frowned, his expression impatient, "Old Ten, we can handle this ourselves; you can’t help us. Take your wife and go."
"Tsk... Seventh Brother, that’s not right. What can’t I handle? Even if I can’t, at least let me help you figure things out." Li Yifei replied quickly. Their behavior was too bizarre, and the more they acted this way, the more determined Li Yifei was to find out what was happening. Moreover, after all his hard work coming this far, finding them only to be told to leave was absurd.
Shen Tianfang and Zheng Feihu’s faces showed displeasure. They glared at Li Yifei, saying, "Leave when we tell you to!"
This... Xu Shanshan was also bewildered. She knew these two, and they weren’t like this before; why the sudden change in attitude?
Li Yifei chuckled, "Let’s not discuss this now. You’ve been through a lot of danger; let me check on you. If I can treat any injuries, that’s better. That way, even if I leave, you’ll be safer here."
Shen Tianfang’s face twitched with obvious impatience as he scolded, "Li Yifei, just go when we tell you! Stop dawdling! We’re fine here, none of your concern."
"Seventh Brother, you must be joking. Whether you’re fine or not, I was entrusted to come here. Since you’re okay, I’ll eventually leave too. But before I do, you must tell me what you’ve discovered so I can report back." Li Yifei grinned, appearing unfazed while his eyes swept over the five men behind them, noticing their anger as well.
Everyone seemed angry, and the longer Li Yifei lingered, the angrier they became.
