Chapter 2118: Chapter 2181: Other People’s Family Matters

"Murder! Murder! Wang Gui committed murder!" Sister Li San, who had just been hit, cried out on the ground like a slaughtered pig, clutching her face in pain, yelling a few times before getting up from the ground. Overwhelmed with anger, she rushed towards Li Yifei.

Wang Gui was about to stop her when he saw a figure charge forward, shouting "Stop!" as he grabbed hold of Sister Li San, stopping her in her tracks.

The newcomer was a sturdily built man clad in tattered clothes, around thirty years old, with a crew cut and dark skin. After holding onto Sister Li San, the man kept asking, "What’s going on? What’s going on? Wife, what are you doing?"

"What am I doing?" Sister Li San saw who was holding her, raised her hand, and slapped him across the face with a crack, an action so practiced it was as if she’d done it countless times before. After the slap, Sister Li San jumped into action, pointing at Li Yifei and Wang Gui, shouting, "Su Dazhuang, it’s these two people who want to take your niece away and who hit me. Be a man and take them down!"

"What?" Su Dazhuang wasn’t bothered by the slap and asked naively, "Isn’t Xiaoxiao right here? Who’s trying to take her away? Wife, calm down. This Mr. Li has come to save us, bringing a lot of people and food, and I just helped you collect a box of braised beef noodles earlier."

This man was definitely not stupid. Li Yifei knew right away because he had an impression of Su Dazhuang when the latter watched him rescue people from the river the previous night. This impression was neither good nor bad, just that he knew this man wasn’t foolish. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"Damn it, Su Dazhuang, stop pretending to be confused. I was beaten! Are you going to retaliate or not? If not, we’ll get divorced." Sister Li San dared not vent her anger on Li Yifei or Wang Gui, so she turned it on her husband.

Su Dazhuang turned around, looked at Su Xiaoxiao with complex eyes, then turned his gaze to Li Yifei, his mouth moved as he asked, "Mr. Li, Mayor Wang, what’s going on here?"

Wang Gui snorted. He was, after all, a mayor, and had quite the authority, especially over someone like Su Dazhuang. However, he glanced at Li Yifei, and seeing no reaction from him, said, "You’ve married a wonderful wife. Your niece is in such a pitiful state; even after you’ve taken over her property, now Mr. Li wants to adopt her, and your shameless wife dares to demand ten thousand dollars from Mr. Li. Su Dazhuang, you’re not a man!"

Calling a man ’not a man’ is a huge insult, yet Su Dazhuang wasn’t angry about it, feeling only a burning rage. He was a simple, indecisive person; when his wife kicked Su Xiaoxiao out months ago, he didn’t say much, especially since Sister Li San claimed she was pregnant. He couldn’t hit or scold her, so he let Su Xiaoxiao stay elsewhere, occasionally bringing food to his niece, feeling terrible about it. Being reduced to such a state, as a man, was truly wretched.

But there was nothing he could do. He’d been married to Sister Li San for almost ten years with no children. When she finally got pregnant, he couldn’t oppose her. But now, after her actions, Su Dazhuang breathed heavily, his eyes bulging like an ox’s, red-faced and panting, looking at Sister Li San, his hands clenching and releasing repeatedly. After tens of seconds, he dropped his head dejectedly, muttering, "Xiaoxiao, it’s your uncle who’s failed you. Your uncle is powerless."

Li Yifei exhaled sharply through his nose, thinking Su Dazhuang wasn’t of much use, but Su Xiaoxiao said, "Uncle, I don’t blame you. But neither you nor Aunt can decide for me, and you have no right to sell me. I’ll let you have the house; I don’t want it. But I have nothing to do with you anymore."

"Alright..." Su Dazhuang’s voice weakened even more as he added, "If Mr. Li is willing to adopt you, that would be the best outcome. Uncle trusts him!"

"Su Dazhuang, you useless coward, wait for me to divorce you!" Sister Li San, realizing her husband was useless, quickly kicked him, glaring hatefully at Li Yifei and the others, shouting, "You’re all ganging up to bully me! I’ll have you know, I’m calling the police! Hitting people is illegal, especially hitting a pregnant woman. If I lose this child, I’ll fight you to the end!"

"You’re not pregnant." Li Yifei spoke up; her demeanor didn’t match that of a pregnant woman.

"What?" Su Dazhuang immediately lifted his head.

"Of course I’m pregnant. Who the hell are you to say I’m not?" Sister Li San snapped.

Li Yifei sneered, "You know whether you’re pregnant or not. If you were pregnant, I wouldn’t have kicked you. Go on, fool your gullible husband. I’m taking Su Xiaoxiao away; I’ll raise her. But anything that belongs to her, even if you’ve swallowed it, you’ll have to cough it up. I thought you were just a bit arrogant, but it turns out you’re a shameless person with no sense of family!"

"You, you..." Sister Li San was about to retort when Su Dazhuang grabbed her arm, angrily asking, "Are you really pregnant or not?"

"Su Dazhuang, how dare you yell at me? Even if I weren’t pregnant, what could you do? You’ve spoiled me for too long!" Sister Li San was certainly not afraid of Su Dazhuang. After so many years of marriage, she’d always been the one to dominate.

Su Dazhuang held his breath. He had waited for a child for so many years, only for his wife to confess she wasn’t pregnant. If that was true, she’d been deceiving him, claiming to be pregnant just to drive Su Xiaoxiao out, constantly saying Su Xiaoxiao was a bad omen that would affect the child in her belly, statements she’d repeated often, which was one reason Su Dazhuang had agreed to let Su Xiaoxiao move out.

At this moment, everything was clear. Su Dazhuang raised his hand and slapped Sister Li San forcefully, shouting angrily, "You... How could you have such a cruel heart!"

One slap was not enough to vent his anger. Su Dazhuang grabbed Sister Li San’s hair and started a series of vicious hits, making Sister Li San cry out loud and repeatedly beg for mercy. Unfortunately, neither Li Yifei nor Wang Gui stepped in to stop it, and Su Xiaoxiao naturally wouldn’t either.

Liu Yifei shook his head and said to Wang Gui: "Mayor Wang, it’s a hassle, I’ll take Xiaoxiao to eat first."

"No hassle, no hassle, please go ahead." Wang Gui quickly replied.

Holding Su Xiaoxiao’s hand, he turned and left. Li Yifei asked, "Sorry I didn’t discuss it with you before, but I just wanted to provide you with a better environment to grow up in, different from what that woman said."

"I trust you, uncle." Su Xiaoxiao looked up at Li Yifei, pursed her lips, and smiled, "From the moment you swam to that big tree yesterday, I started trusting you."

"Haha, okay, after we eat, once the rescue is over, you’ll come home with me." Li Yifei laughed out loud.

Su Xiaoxiao nodded gently. After walking a short distance, she stopped, turned to look at the two still fighting, furrowed her brow slightly then relaxed and said, "In my memory, this should be the first time uncle has hit aunt. No matter how aunt behaved or fussed before, uncle would patiently endure it."

"So you want to go back and stop it?" Li Yifei asked.

Su Xiaoxiao shook her little head and said, "No, I won’t stop it. Although I think hitting someone is wrong, she bullied my mom back then, even when she was on the sickbed, this woman came to curse."

"Then let it be, let’s go!" Li Yifei said.

The Li family rescue team, after nearly three days of rescue efforts, managed to save over 130 people, some trapped on isolated islands or rooftops, while others were buried under debris. This number was even more than the official rescue squads, and Li Yifei himself saved more than twenty people. Half of the rescued were related to him, as he could rely on his senses for rescue. To put it bluntly, he was even more useful than police dogs.

Most of this happened on the night of the earthquake and the next morning, as well as the following evening. With several loud booms, the entire dam completely cracked. The crack was over thirty meters wide and continued expanding, with the base destroyed and downstream flooded. Not only this small town but other towns downstream were also affected. Luckily, after the water flowed past here, it dispersed, and the downstream farmland had already been harvested and sold this season, so personal losses were minimal.

The bad news was that the dam failure completely submerged the town. The relentless floodwaters swept everything away, with virtually all buildings damaged and soaked. Even when the water recedes, there might not be a few good houses left.

Su Dazhuang’s house was naturally not spared, but luckily, he took out all his valuables, so the losses were minimized, and his family was allotted a tent.

This was not Li Yifei’s concern. After meeting with the provincial leaders and then the visiting Central Government officials, receiving many compliments, he allowed his subordinates and rescue team to rest for half a day and then led the exhausted team back to Ning Province.

The rescue, disaster relief, and saving lives were all out of good intentions. Li Yifei never intended to benefit from it. In fact, at his level, Li Yifei didn’t need to do so, and all those leaders knew this.

But on the way home, Li Yifei received a call from Su Mengxin, who sounded somewhat upset, saying, "Honey, there are some voices online, and I’m very angry after seeing them."

"Hmm? What voices?" Li Yifei was mildly curious because not much could anger Su Mengxin, who usually handled things calmly.

Li Yifei glanced at Su Xiaoxiao, who was curled up asleep on the chair next to him, and lowered his voice, saying, "Don’t rush, tell me slowly."

Su Mengxin then told Li Yifei what made her angry, and after hearing it, Li Yifei found it somewhat amusing, not expecting to encounter such a thing.
