Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 2140 - 2203: What a Misunderstanding
In the hotel, a group of people had a dinner that wasn’t very tasty and returned to their rooms to inform their families they were safe or to rest. Li Yifei stayed in Wu Shuwei’s room, pulled out his phone to let his family know he was safe, and casually browsed Twitter. He noticed that online coverage of this event had increased significantly. After scrolling for a while, Li Yifei closed Twitter, aware that being a public figure comes with various troubles and criticism, something he had long been mentally prepared for.
After Wu Shuwei finished her call, Li Yifei also put away his phone, leaned back in the chair, and tilted his head to look at Wu Shuwei. Under the light, Wu Shuwei was very beautiful; after landing in Egypt, everyone had changed into summer clothes. Wu Shuwei was wearing capri pants and a crisp long-sleeve shirt, with the cuffs rolled up a bit, revealing a section of her fair arm. While on the phone, one hand supported the other arm, her back to Li Yifei, her graceful figure provoking infinite imagination, especially her rounded hips.
Turning around, Li Yifei smiled, and Wu Shuwei returned the smile, saying, "I just called the embassy. It seems we might have to stay here for a while unless we are willing to take a train to Congo. Of course, driving is also an option, though it’s more dangerous."
"Coming to this continent means there’s no safe place," Li Yifei said calmly.
Wu Shuwei opened her mouth, wanting to say "See, nothing good happens when I’m with you, there’s always danger." But she realized it couldn’t be blamed on Li Yifei, so she held back and instead asked, "So, what do you think?"
"Anything works. If it were just you and me, we’d get a car and go. But with so many people now, it’s hard to say," Li Yifei replied.
Wu Shuwei raised her hand to rub her brow, looking a bit tired. Today’s experiences were startling but safe, thanks to Li Yifei; otherwise, it was uncertain what the outcome would have been. As they left the police, gunshots could still be heard. While calling the embassy, Wu Shuwei learned the Egyptian police were still in a standoff with the bandits, and hostages hadn’t been rescued yet. Reportedly, over a dozen had died; to meet their demands, the bandits allegedly killed a hostage every so often.
This had nothing to do with Li Yifei; he still had the same thinking—those lives were not his concern, he wasn’t a savior.
Wu Shuwei decided to wait and see; if they could fly to Congo, it was best. If not, they’d have to go by land route, which might not be as unsafe.
Li Yifei was indifferent to it; theoretically, he could wander outside for over ten days. When time is up, Li Yifei would go back no matter what.
The night passed without words; Li Yifei didn’t go to bother Wu Shuwei and returned to his room to sleep.
The next day, Li Yifei sought information, resulting in frustration. These so-called professional police and special forces had made no headway against the bandits. Reportedly, police casualties were over 20, while the bandits’ casualties remained unknown. Li Yifei guessed it wasn’t many, perhaps only the dozen or so he had killed counted as real effective casualties.
During breakfast, Li Yifei saw Wu Shuwei and asked, "Didn’t sleep well last night?"
"Mm..." Wu Shuwei nodded, holding her breakfast, sat across from him, and said, "It was a bit hot in the room."
"Let’s switch rooms tonight. My room’s AC works." Li Yifei proposed.
Wu Shuwei pursed her lips, neither agreeing nor opposing, but come night, Li Yifei indeed went over to switch rooms with her. During the day, it hadn’t been noticed that Wu Shuwei’s room was quite stuffy. Li Yifei could self-regulate his body temperature to adapt to the surrounding environment; Wu Shuwei could not. She was so hot the previous night that her clothes were soaked, no matter how many showers she took.
"Go get some sleep. Rest well, regain your energy. I suspect we might need to consider other options; either the train or renting a car," Li Yifei reminded her. All day he had been following the airport situation in Egypt, yet there was no progress. Reportedly, the stalemate persisted, and nearly twenty hostages had died. The other side reportedly warned to give the Egyptian government one more day; if not release the hostages, they’d kill them all.
Even if this matter was over, the airport would have to undergo some restructuring, so thinking about flying soon wasn’t feasible.
Wu Shuwei ultimately switched rooms with Li Yifei, turned on the air conditioning, and lay in the bed Li Yifei had slept on. Wu Shuwei was still insomniac, even though it wasn’t as stuffy anymore, because it was Li Yifei’s bed and residual scent lingered, which Wu Shuwei sensed somehow, though barely detectable.
Sharing a bed and a blanket with a man, Wu Shuwei hesitated briefly but convinced herself it was no big deal; after all, it wasn’t someone else, and then lay down.
Another night passed, and when Li Yifei saw Wu Shuwei, he noticed she seemed even more exhausted than the previous day. Surprised, he asked, "Didn’t sleep well again? My room’s AC cools very well; don’t tell me you didn’t turn it on?"
"I did, just a bit of insomnia..." Wu Shuwei replied.
"Don’t worry too much. Wait one more day; if there’s no progress, we’ll take the train," Li Yifei comforted her.
"Mm."
"Come over here," Li Yifei beckoned to Wu Shuwei. Being in her room with no outsiders, he was more casual, but asking her over directly made Wu Shuwei hesitate and ask, "What’s this about?"
"I’ll give you a massage; you’re showing dark circles now. With your fair complexion, they look particularly noticeable," Li Yifei said.
Wu Shuwei let out an "oh," stood up, and walked over. Li Yifei asked her to squat down. Wu Shuwei frowned at him, and Li Yifei said, "It’ll be quick, squatting for a while won’t be a problem!"
Squatting, why does this position feel so strange? Wu Shuwei thought to herself. For the sake of her eyes, she hesitated but squatted down. Li Yifei extended both hands, placing his fingers on the acupoints around Wu Shuwei’s eyes, slowly channeling True Qi to help her alleviate the discomfort.
It was just a matter of a minute or two. Li Yifei not only helped her reduce her dark circles but also alleviated her physical discomfort from poor rest and diet in the past few days. Just as Li Yifei finished the massage and Wu Shuwei was about to get up, the door suddenly swung open. A team member rushed in hurriedly, saying, "Manager Wu, I have... uh..."
Seeing the scene, the person forgot what they were about to say. What was happening? Although everyone noticed that Manager Wu and that Li Yifei were not quite normal, neither had done anything too inappropriate. Who would have thought that at this moment... Manager Wu was actually crouching between Li Yifei’s legs... Oh my God, the employee almost shouted, thinking they had stumbled upon a major scandal.
Wu Shuwei was already aware that this position wasn’t quite right, but Li Yifei’s massage was very comfortable. She quickly felt less exhausted, so she didn’t rush to get up. Who would have thought the subordinate would burst in without knocking?
"Sorry, sorry, I’ll step out first," the person quickly apologized, backing out as they spoke.
"Stop right there," Li Yifei called out, explaining, "Manager Wu had a headache, and I was just giving her a massage. What’s all the panic about?"
Even if it was a massage, there’s no need to kneel between your legs, the person thought to themselves. However, they quickly nodded, forced a smile, and said, "Oh, I see. Apologies, I was just in a hurry and forgot to knock."
"Alright, whatever it is, say it quickly," Li Yifei waved his hand, and Wu Shuwei stood aside, tidying up her clothes, asking, "What’s happened?"
"Oh, it’s the police. The police are here, they want us to go back with them."
"Go back again?"
"I don’t know why, either. They’re waiting downstairs, so I hurried to tell you."
"Alright, go block them for a bit, I’ll head down immediately," Wu Shuwei said.
Li Yifei stood up and said, "I’ll go down first to see what’s going on."
Once downstairs, Li Yifei found the same police officers as last time. A few officers whom Li Yifei had clashed with before had unfriendly expressions, while the female officer smiled at Li Yifei and said, "Hello, sir. We’re here to ask a few questions. Based on the information you provided, we’ve indeed made some progress, but we’ve also discovered a few things."
Saying that, the female officer took out a box. After opening it, Li Yifei saw a few bullets and a magazine. He understood immediately that they must have found the body of the bandit he killed and retrieved the bullets from it. The police don’t use this kind of gun, and after investigating, it turned out that only that man from the Huaxia tour group had such a gun.
"Sir, could it be that you did this?" the female officer asked.
Li Yifei didn’t sidestep and said, "Yes, it’s me. What’s the matter?"
The female officer’s eyes flashed with a tinge of surprise. She hadn’t expected Li Yifei to admit it directly.
"Could you tell us how you did it? We found eight bodies in the restroom; all had been shot. It seemed like an inside job, which troubled us for a while. But now that you’ve admitted to it, it clears up our confusion."
"Oh, it was me, but it’s no big deal. I’m a retired soldier!" Li Yifei said with a smile.
An ordinary retired soldier wouldn’t be able to accomplish such a feat, taking out so many bandits single-handedly. The female officer showed a hint of admiration and said, "So, today we came here to confirm this matter. If it’s true, we hope to include you in our reports as a source of positive energy, which we need right now."
"Are you suggesting an interview?" Li Yifei frowned.
"Yes, we intend to interview you!"
"Forget about the interview. We’re heading to Congo and won’t stay in Egypt for long. We might even leave tomorrow. But thank you for the offer!" Li Yifei shook his head. What a joke, Li Yifei isn’t afraid of those bandits, but if the Egyptian side starts promoting this, there’s no saying those people wouldn’t cause trouble for him.
