Chapter 2148: Chapter 2211: Beasts of No Nation

Between Li Yifei and Lu Youx, Wu Shuwei naturally trusts Li Yifei. Setting aside Lu Youx’s character, which Wu Shuwei isn’t very familiar with, she is one hundred percent convinced about Li Yifei. Besides her dad, Li Yifei is unquestionably the person she trusts the most in this world, even more than her best friends. In several life-and-death situations, it was always Li Yifei by her side, accompanying and protecting her.

Wu Shuwei is extremely displeased with Lu Youx for resorting to finding people to attack Li Yifei over a small conflict. Regardless of any other issues, Li Yifei is her bodyguard, and Lu Youx shouldn’t have done such a thing.

She doesn’t feel that Lu Youx is interested in her, and thus is more prepared to deal with Li Yifei. At this moment, Wu Shuwei is pondering Lu Youx’s motives, wondering if he’s trying to give her a show of force.

However, she isn’t here to check accounts, nor did she think along those lines. She’s simply representing the group, coming over to sign a contract with the local forces and cooperate for development. Why would they put on a show of force? Over these days, Lu Youx has cooperated, but Wu Shuwei is no fool; she can sense the arrogance of the other party, the feeling of being the local tyrant.

This is what puzzles her, and as for Li Yifei’s comment about the other party being interested in her, Wu Shuwei doesn’t believe it.

The two appear together in the cafeteria, eating breakfast and chatting amicably, a scene that Lu Youx learns about. Upon hearing this, he couldn’t help but want to smash a cup, surprised by the high stature this poor bodyguard apparently has with Wu Shuwei.

Dammit, can’t let this little bastard go smoothly; otherwise, there’d really be nothing for me here. Thinking this, Lu Youx picked up the phone, dialed a number, walked to the window, and looked out at the busy crowd. A wicked smile appeared on his face. Once the call connected, Lu Youx began to execute his plan.

Meanwhile, Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei are completely unaware. After breakfast, Wu Shuwei immerses herself in her busy schedule, while Li Yifei leisurely hangs out with the security guards he drank with yesterday, driving around the factory for patrol.

There’s been constant turmoil here recently, and various armed personnel routinely appear on the road, resulting in a tighter security presence, with patrols being fully armed.

The equipment is good; Li Yifei is now holding a submachine gun, not a domestic one but an American-made weapon, equally familiar. Li Yifei is assisting the security guards in maintaining the gun.

"Brother Li, you’re much more proficient than us," said the driver, nicknamed Little Liuu, a guard Li Yifei is familiar with. Hearing this, Li Yifei chuckled, "Handled them quite a lot back in the day. Had to know the firearms from various countries, and I can even recite some basic metrics of these guns now."

"Amazing!" Little Liuu gave a thumbs-up, watching Li Yifei’s skilled operation; within seconds, he fully assembled the gun, the barrel already protruding out the car window, aiming at a distant rock. At this moment, the car was still moving at 60 kilometers per hour. Li Yifei pulled the trigger, three bursts rang out, and the stone more than 40 meters away flared with splintering debris, evidently hit.

The two guards sitting in the back cheered, continuously praising Li Yifei’s skill.

On such patrol outings, shooting is allowed. Tens of thousands of bullets are distributed annually, as long as spare ammunition is saved for emergencies. Generally, those local tyrants wouldn’t provoke Huaxia companies as they know Huaxia people are as tough to deal with as Americans or Englishmen. Provoking them might be fine initially, but the aftermath could lead to a brutal reprisal.

Li Yifei indeed feels more deeply about this than the guards, having participated in several of such retaliatory actions. When fellow nationals overseas are murdered or kidnapped, Li Yifei and others receive missions to sneak in as a squad, sometimes parachuting close to the target, erupting suddenly with attacks, resolving the opponents, and quickly withdrawing, often leaving the other party unaware of who struck them, just to be wiped out by divine interventions.

But it doesn’t mean such things never happen. Some guards have encountered situations, some serious, others confronting superior Huaxia weaponry and fleeing ashamed. The time it was severe resulted in three guard sacrifices and some injuries. It’s fortunate these individuals have undergone professional training and executed missions here for years. That incident was during a war between the Congo government forces and rebels, plunging the entire region into chaos, with even UN forces intervening.

"Things aren’t stable lately; these black devils kill without batting an eye, not just us foreigners, but they indiscriminately kill their own people too, without a shred of hesitation," Little Liuu stopped the car and signaled the others behind to park and rest, letting them take a break and relieve themselves.

"Heh, rather barbaric or primitive," Li Yifei commented.

"About half a year ago, I saw a group of black devils, draped with fabrics, holding broken knives and iron, shouting while charging toward a tribal gathering. Seems like tribal warfare, but the attacked tribe was more advanced, had more contact with modern society. This side lifted knives, while the other pulled out guns and unleashed a barrage that turned those black devils into minced flesh. We were crossing their path during a mission. They didn’t care and hacked pieces of flesh from bodies, bringing them home. I was out of it for days without appetite," Little Liuu said, deliberately glancing at Li Yifei, noting that his expression remained unchanged.

Little Liuu continued, "Then there’s the drug problem. It’s widespread here, regardless of age, many are users. When they see us, they swarm and beg for money, saying ’money, money.’ If there are many of us it’s fine. If they catch you alone, they’ll rob you. If lucky, you’re just robbed. If not, you’re lost."

Li Yifei recalled a movie he saw earlier, called "Beasts of No Nation," indicating beasts unbound or nations lacking concept of borders, depicting the reality in some African countries over decades. No, should say centuries of African states’ condition, just with cold weapons replaced by firearms.

Firearms haven’t changed Africa’s overall situation, perhaps worsened it. Since colonial rule ended, most African countries have established themselves, yet in certain ways things remain unchanged.

"Beasts of No Nation" tells of a boy named Agu, originally living in a not affluent but survivable family, his village relatively peaceful. However, the ruling government forces attacked. Agu’s teacher father sent away his wife and brother, leaving Agu and his older brother. The government troops stormed in, killing his father and brother. A terrified Agu fled to the forests, running into rebel forces who hid there, captured and conscripted him as a child soldier. Agu and other kids were forced to train, brainwashed, then sent on missions to kill government soldiers, civilians, and innocents. Despite his youth, he, like adults, started using drugs, smoking, drinking, becoming increasingly violent and brutal. Those he knew died one after another, some his age, his only friend hit by stray bullets, finally dying in his arms.

In a state without governance, chaos-ridden, humans are like ants, lives valueless. This film authentically depicts past and ongoing situations in many African countries.

Against gunpowder, ordinary people cannot resist. They can only face slaughter or be forced into animal-like fates.

Watching the film, Li Yifei was deeply moved, reinforcing his military duty to protect. Pulling his thoughts back, he smiled at Little Liuu and said, "Only by going abroad and seeing the plight of people there can you truly appreciate the warmth and peace of your homeland."

"Exactly, Brother Li, I can’t understand those domestic ***** who are always clamoring to immigrate, wishing for foreign freedom and democracy. I can’t fathom their thoughts. Maybe I’ve only been to Africa, which certainly isn’t livable, but from what I gather, the chaos here is caused by western manipulation, money given, weapons supplied, continuing exploitation, taking resources while indifferent to local people’s plight."

Silly boy, we’re essentially doing the same thing now... Li Yifei’s lips moved silently, not verbalizing it. This aspect, Li Yifei found challenging to discuss. Yet nowadays, some state enterprises abroad engage in activities not fundamentally different. Beneficial for Huaxia, potentially detrimental locally, though short-term gain from investments provide tax revenue, employment opportunities.

Patting Little Liuu’s shoulder, Li Yifei discarded his cigarette, saying, "When abroad, prioritize personal safety, safeguarding those around is enough. This chaos isn’t something one person, thousands, or tens of thousands can solve."

"Haha, indeed; just saying, feel some people forget themselves over comfortable lives," Little Liuu chuckled, displaying white teeth.

"Did you bring food? This spot’s nice, let’s have lunch!" Li Yifei pointed under a large tree.

"Yes, yes, all the leftover meat from yesterday, had the cafeteria master process them, brought them today. Also brought some bottles of alcohol, hehe, Brother Li wait a moment, I’ll fetch plastic to lay out." Little Liuu joyfully headed to the trunk, lifting out two large boxes.
