Chapter 1298: Chapter 137: Fulfillment of All Wishes (Part 2)

All the living people were in the town. Gongsun Ce saw John and Budman surrounded by a group of superpower users who had long passed away, some were former opponents of Wing of Death, and more were their departed friends. Jago stood among the circle of agents, the old man narrating to old friends about the world after the secret war ended. There were the most people beside Seviss, those closest to her barely had recognizable features, only blurry outlines. She was casually putting her arms around the deceased and sharing interesting stories across a millennium, her eyes filled with tears.

She wiped her eyes, turned towards Gongsun Ce’s direction, a bit embarrassed: "Ah, over a thousand years old and still crying!"

"No matter the age, humans are still human," Gongsun Ce said, "Humans cry."

Seviss told him the spread of Kong Hua Realm was restricted to the range of Huang Guang State, and Dawn Knight was battling it on the other side of the mountains. She reckoned that people outside should be quite anxious by now and would likely send an investigation team. Gongsun Ce was surprisingly not anxious, maybe because instinctively he felt this place lacked danger. The entire town seemed to have welcomed "Dead Soul Festival," a traditional holiday in the southwest part of the Union, where people believed the deceased would return on this day to spend the holiday with the living and then leave. This festival was gentle and harmless because the deceased had long passed and merely came to check how the living were doing, whether they had been forgotten.

Gongsun Ce found Little Manaka in front of a Zero Island-style house, standing before many young children with red eyes. Gongsun Ce walked over, embracing her and lending his shoulder for her silent crying. Kong Wang also came to this place and casually created some bright red toys, making the children’s eyes glow, then promptly snatched her best friend from Gongsun Ce’s hands.

"Don’t cry anymore, Little Manaka~ Play with everyone!"

"Don’t do this, Kong Wang..." Little Manaka whispered. But Kong Wang only laughed happily, dragging her without hesitation to play with former playmates. Gongsun Ce noticed Agent Will waiting by the side and thought that this place didn’t need his watch anymore. He left the time for Sister Zhenfan, looking for the rest of the companions.

He quickly found the Shiyu siblings and Kardesia. Shiyu Ling was tirelessly snapping his fingers, causing Shiyu Genmi’s body to shatter, weather, corrode, and crush into bits. Yet, this persistent dead spirit was able to regenerate at an incredibly fast pace each time, spreading his hands wide and laughing loudly: "Say it once more for me, little princess! I want to hear you call me father again!"

"Just die already."

Shiyu Ling retched repeatedly, Shiyu Lianyi looking rather grim: "I really regret calling him father before his death..."

"Your dad was a real bastard indeed," Kardesia said, "He’s dead but still manages to disgust you guys, what kind of spirit is this."

"Let this world end already," Mr. Shiyu shook his head repeatedly, glanced at Gongsun Ce, "Oh wow look, Gongsun really is with another pretty girl again."

"Ugh~" Kardesia and Shiyu Ling simultaneously curled their lips.

Gongsun Ce forced a natural smile: "What’s with this hooligan tone. And not to mention the lady in the hat, Zero, what are you doing following the uproar!"

"You just finished one fight and are off hooking up with women, what expression do you expect me to have?" Shiyu Ling tugged at his face, "Who are these people?"

"The one at the back is the unfamiliar village girl, this one is the... female passerby I mentioned to you."

Shiyu Ling glanced at Kerky, said nothing, and continued to torment her scummy father. Gongsun Ce continued towards the foot of the mountain, as Jane Della finally couldn’t hold back: "Is that girl your girlfriend?"

"None of your business."

"You...!"

Gongsun Ce instantly felt refreshed. After walking for a while, he found Qin Qianbai and Qiluo in a small pavilion, two girls who didn’t mingle with anyone, seeming out of place with their surroundings.

Qiluo made a funny face: "Feels like this world is excluding us... It seems like it didn’t gather information fragments of the deceased from the Empire. Guess it’s a matter of scope."

"Think of it from a different angle, the more people you meet in Kong Hua Realm, the sadder you become." Gongsun Ce rubbed her head, turning to look at Qin Qianbai. She was attentively observing the deceased’s behaviors on the long bench of the pavilion, a contemplative profile with a touch of philosophical mystery.

Gongsun Ce solemnly said, "Wow, the young lady is deep in thought."

Qin Qianbai gave him a smack and turned her face: "Ah Ce, I think they’re not real."

"Of course they’re not real, the genuine ones have already died," Gongsun Ce said, "They’re fragments, afterimages, partial resurrectors. But they are aware they are dead and retain all memories from when they were alive; if ghosts really exist, they couldn’t be more vivid than them."

"That’s not what I mean," Qin Qianbai said, "I feel the real Shiyu Genmi would say even worse things to Ling, and the real Kong Wang would interact with Sister Zhenfan in a child’s persona. But now they seem friendlier compared to before, as if..."

"The world itself is responding to the expectations of the living, isn’t it?"

Qin Qianbai silently nodded, agreeing with his inference. Upon closer reflection, it’s not surprising; if living people truly have the chance to meet the deceased, surely they wouldn’t want to continue any grudges. Thus, Kong Hua Realm probably responded to this wish, making slight "modifications" to the deceased, making them gentler, kinder...

This thought made Gongsun Ce feel a wave of nausea, as if gods were casually reshaping the forms of souls, doing so with the arbitrary ease of molding clay. Kerky let out a loud retching noise, forcing a natural smile: "How is this any different from the captain?"
