Superstar's Development Diary-Chapter 756 - 757: A Sudden Brightness
Sheng Yan continued chatting with her for a while, then was called away to shoot a film, and He Jinxia didn’t forget to remind him one more time to be very careful before hanging up the phone.
These past few days, the script for "Fox Fairy Legend" had weighed heavily on her mind; she hadn’t really relaxed, but now that she had resolved one concern, she lay down on the couch, stretched lazily, and casually picked up the script for a guest cameo she had put aside to start reading.
Once she started reading, she was mesmerized.
The script was for a modern film, telling the story of a retired soldier who discovers that his daughter is missing, and thus goes abroad to investigate, only to be swept up in a crisis involving a new viral outbreak and biochemical weapons.
Taking advantage of the local turmoil, terrorists suddenly attacked a hospital, searching for a Huaxia doctor.
That doctor coincidentally had been his daughter’s physician before her death, so the male protagonist was also looking for this doctor’s whereabouts when he encountered the terrorists, leading to a confrontation between the two sides.
In the end, the terrorists took the person away, and just as the male protagonist was about to go after them, he saw soldiers sent from Huaxia, so he pulled out his retired soldier’s ID and requested to join them to rescue the Huaxia doctor.
The female lead in the script was a war journalist, who believed in revealing the truths buried in the war, and incidentally recorded the chaos and misery caused by the national conflicts, capturing the dismal condition of the locals.
To seek the truth, she even approached the terrorists to interview them.
Without a doubt, this fearless rookie journalist’s luck ended when she was captured by the terrorists during an interview and taken hostage.
The terrorists didn’t spare even the medical staff from battles, binding everyone they encountered who was not one of their own, without any principles.
Ha, talking about principles with terrorists is the greatest folly.
The female lead, due to her own folly, nearly got taken out and shot when the male protagonist happened to arrive just in time to save her and reshape her foolish ideas.
Everyone has moments of youthful fearlessness, but understanding when to be brave and when to be cautious is something many people can’t clearly distinguish, being governed by their temperaments, which is an irrational behavior.
Though the female journalist seemed not very bright, she was physically adept, frequently went to the gym, and knew some basic medical dressing skills.
Knowing that the male protagonist and his team were going on a rescue mission, the female lead wanted to follow, feeling it was a noble and grand cause, even if it might cost her life.
After reading through the entire script, He Jinxia slightly closed her eyes, still enraptured by the world described in the script, unable to extricate herself.
Initially, what attracted her to the script was its unique content.
Few films on the market actually talk about soldiers’ deeds, and this movie specifically focused on that; it seemed niche, but once it became popular, it could tap into the massive audience market in Huaxia.
As she delved deeper into the storyline, what attracted her was the grand battle scenes and the thrilling martial arts actions.
She had seen many ancient films, where the fight scenes were highly addictive, but this film involved modern combat, not just pure brawling but a collision of high-tech products, making it thrilling and exciting.
Tanks, big guns, combat planes, warships... just hearing about them made one’s scalp tingle.
Most importantly, the plot of the entire play was excellent, and what attracted He Jinxia the most was the character setup.
Whether it was the retired soldier or the war journalist, they both harbored dreams, even if those dreams might be wrong, but they still resolutely acted upon them.
This was truly admirable.
She was deeply impressed by a dialogue in the script, and after finishing, she forgot many details, but she could never forget this particular conversation.
In the script, the retired soldier saw the female journalist suddenly appear in the car, having returned, and he was surprised and asked, "Weren’t you sent away?"
The female journalist said cheerily, "I don’t believe what you said. You said it’s safe now, and nothing is wrong, so you let us all leave, but why aren’t you leaving?"
The retired veteran fell silent, his voice hoarse as he spoke, "There is still one thing I haven’t investigated thoroughly. I must go and see; my daughter might be in their hands. The mission to protect the Overseas Chinese and facilitate their evacuation has ended, but my mission has just begun."
The female journalist continued with a smile, "Coincidentally, there is also a truth I haven’t sought to understand. I want to delve into the terrorists’ rank to investigate clearly, so I chose to stay."
The retired veteran was silent for a while before he said indifferently, "Curiosity can kill."
The female journalist laughed lightly, "I fear nothing." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
The retired veteran countered, "Are you not afraid of dying?"
The female journalist shrugged nonchalantly, "Who isn’t afraid of dying? But there are some tasks that someone has to undertake, right?
I’ve always been living in darkness. It was you soldiers who rescued me when I was a child.
When I was rescued, I thought that my life thereafter belonged to you all. As long as you don’t make me return to my former life, I’m willing to do anything you ask. You were all too kind, just allowing me to live well was enough."
"Then live your life well."
"I will live well, but I will also uncover the truth."
The two stubborn individuals could not convince each other and thus set out, fueled by their own convictions.
He Jinxia had a particularly deep impression of this segment because the film’s ending brought this piece of dialogue to life.
——Curiosity can kill.
Thus, in the end, the female journalist, to save the male lead, pushed him away, took a shell herself, losing her hand in the explosion, her face covered in blood, and she sacrificed herself.
At the end of the film, words previously said by the male and female leads surfaced, along with an additional comforting monologue from the female lead.
"Curiosity can kill."
"I fear nothing." (Recap)
"Haha, don’t be sad. I was supposed to die soon anyway—I’ve had terminal liver cancer. The hospital said last year that I wouldn’t last long. But driven by my determination to seek the truth, I rushed to the battlefield and managed to hold on till now.
I’m happy I could save you, as you can save more people than a sick person like me can."
After saying these words, the female lead passed away.
He Jinxia sighed deeply, opened her eyes, and felt a strong sense of dissatisfaction arise.
Really, she so wanted to make this film!
However, she was only offered a cameo role in this play.
There was a character in the script, a doctor’s assistant, who was very righteous; willing to sacrifice herself to protect the doctor. The character was substantial, and she was invited to play this cameo role.
But having read the script, He Jinxia preferred the role of the female journalist.
Seemingly defiant and stubborn, but in reality, broader-minded than all, she didn’t die of her illness but in saving someone else, and in the end, the film allowed her character to completely transcend.
To be honest, this character had more complexity and contradiction than the male lead.
But in terms of character personality, it was somewhat unappealing, causing the audience to think she was just a stubborn and paranoid troublemaker, always holding others back.
