Chapter 766: Chapter 767: So It Turns Out I Couldn’t Say It...

He Jinxia shifted her gaze to other areas and realized that almost all of them were the same, with small shops lining both sides of the streets.

After a brief thought, she simply said, "Just take a picture of the street scene we’re on and see if he can recognize it."

Director Qian and Luo You huddled together, muttering as they fiddled with the phone. They managed to send the photo after some trouble, but the assistant was not a city expert and couldn’t figure out the location, so for the time being, they had to continue looking for the place.

Fortunately, perhaps heaven didn’t want to see them so miserable, there were Huaxia people running a shop nearby. Hearing the familiar Huaxia language, they curiously glanced over and asked, "Are you here for a tour?"

Hearing someone speak Huaxia language, Director Qian saw it as a lifesaver and quickly asked him where this was.

After learning the location, the assistant found his way over shortly after.

The man was a gaunt figure, wrapped tightly all over. Had it not been for his face, which was unmistakably Huaxia and different from the locals, none of their group would have recognized him.

As soon as Director Qian and the man met, they embraced each other. They didn’t speak formal Huaxia language but engaged in rapid-fire hometown dialect, leaving He Jinxia and the others completely confused.

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Director Qian turned his attention back to them, "Let’s go, we’ll head to the site now."

Director Qian’s relative apologized to them repeatedly, explaining that he suddenly had stomach pains on the way and it hurt so much that he went to the hospital for a shot, which made him feel better.

He Jinxia and the others accepted his apology, as it was a genuine emergency and not an intentional delay. Besides, now that he had arrived, there was no point in dwelling on the past.

Sitting in the car, He Jinxia watched as the bustling city outside the window gradually turned into fields of lush green, and then into a world of dust-filled yellow earth, causing her to slip into a daze.

As she was about to doze off, she suddenly saw a man standing by the road with a gun in his hand through the window. He was wearing sunglasses, a thick gold chain around his neck, and a cigarette dangled from his lips as he briefly caught her eye.

He Jinxia shuddered, the sight of the man sweeping away all traces of sleepiness from her body.

She turned to look at Luo You and saw him resting with his eyes closed. She nudged him and whispered, "I just saw someone with a gun."

Luo You, still groggy, didn’t respond immediately. Gong Hongyu, who was sitting next to him, heard her and said, "Don’t worry, this city is very safe. Those people carrying guns do it out of habit, for a sense of security, or just to show off."

Just as He Jinxia was about to ask how he knew it was safe, she remembered his previous occupation—on a smaller scale he maintained law and order, and on a larger scale world peace—so he must have some understanding of these war-torn countries.

She nodded, her unease abating slightly. A thought struck her, and she asked:

"Director Qian, didn’t you say that the military would send someone to follow the crew? When is the person in charge coming over?"

Director Qian chuckled with a meaningful look, "The person in charge has already come over!"

"What?" He Jinxia and Luo You exchanged confused glances, baffled.

Luo You looked around: "There’s no stranger with us, is he driving and following us?"

At that moment, Gong Hongyu quietly raised his hand and coughed, "I am the person in charge."

He Jinxia/Luo You: "..."

They had thought Gong Hongyu was just an innocent newbie, but it turned out he was the big boss behind the scenes!

Seeing that there was something odd about the looks in both their eyes, Gong Hongyu explained, "You guys know I was an ex-military man, and I happened to be on good terms with some military leaders, so they gave me this glorious yet arduous task."

Luo You, "Don’t think I don’t know you were in the special police and armed police force, what does that have to do with weapons research and development?"

He Jinxia, "Exactly, are the police really so versatile these days, able to grace the halls, work the kitchen, fight the enemy, and even do scientific research?"

Gong Hongyu blinked his dark, large eyes which made the aging man’s attempt at cuteness somehow touching, but unfortunately, the two people in front of him were not swayed by beauty.

Gong Hongyu gave a resigned smile and resorted to his final trump card, "It’s related to military secrets, I can’t tell."

Luo You drew out his words, with a knowing "we all know what’s going on" attitude, "Oh, can’t tell, huh..."

He Jinxia copied him, with a smile that was not quite a smile, making it all the more meaningful, "Oh, so it’s a can’t tell situation..."

Gong Hongyu inexplicably felt some pressure but still stubbornly held his ground, "Yes, can’t tell."

Seeing that he was unwilling to talk, He Jinxia and Luo You simultaneously looked away, tacitly choosing not to continue the topic.

In the circle, not only must one keep a tight lip, but one must also observe and read people carefully, making cautious choices about what news to know.

Some news is fine to know, but being privy to certain information might lead to trouble. "Curiosity killed the cat" is never an empty saying, especially in the chaotic world of the entertainment circle where one must guard their curiosity.

And with Gong Hongyu’s issue, it was clear that it was better not to know too much.

They drove to the filming location and it was already evening, with a clear line dividing the night from the day in the sky, blending into a magnificent red—a breathtakingly beautiful sight.

The place was backed by mountains and the front was a yard complex made of mud walls. Each room was very small, and the average people of L country were quite tall; many had to bend their backs and bow their heads to live here, including He Jinxia and her group.

This location appeared midway through the movie and was the hardest to negotiate for. Plus, there was not much rental time after the negotiation, so Director Qian decided to shoot this part of the scenes first and move the rest of the scenes later.

Although they had arrived at the shooting location, it didn’t mean they could start filming the next day; Director Qian’s production team was not yet caught up.

They were just the vanguard, finding the spot to set up camp, and the rest of the people would gradually follow.

By the time everyone had arrived, it would probably be another three days, so in effect, they were not much ahead of the time Director Qian had planned to start shooting.

The next day, He Jinxia woke up to a glorious, sunny morning and got ready before heading out for a stroll. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Her biological clock was always on point, and she was used to going to bed early and waking up early. In the crew, she was usually the first one up, but today, she noticed that Gong Hongyu was up even earlier, practicing his boxing on the wide mud ground outside.

He Jinxia watched him, and when he was resting, she asked, "Does the military always get up this early?"

Gong Hongyu, after boxing his way to a sweat-drenched back and thankfully having the foresight to bring along a towel around his neck, wiped his sweat with the towel while answering,

"Even earlier than this, they run a few kilometers then do morning drills, followed by breakfast. By this time, they would have already finished breakfast and be preparing for the second round of training."

Curious, He Jinxia asked him more about other aspects of military life.
