Chapter 832: Chapter 834: Flirting and Bickering

"I really don’t understand what Jinxia sees in you. What makes you better than me, hiding behind a mask like that?" Angus couldn’t take the jab and snapped back.

Sheng Yan kept his laid-back tone, "The man she chose will certainly be much better than you!"

Angus: "I don’t believe it, unless you take off the mask."

Sheng Yan narrowed his eyes, staring at him, "You and her are impossible, so give up on it sooner."

Angus was about to say something when, in the next moment, the man before him said, "It’s not impossible for you to see my real face, but you must help keep an eye on Jinxia in the crew. Let me know if anyone suspicious approaches her." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Angus: "Why should I listen to you—"

The words got stuck in his throat as the man in front of him removed the mask, revealing a chiseled face with piercing eyes.

...

Half an hour later, the two men returned to the place where the crew was having their meal.

Jinxia had already noticed Sheng Yan’s absence and was looking around, wondering where he had gone.

Seeing him return with Angus, she was momentarily stunned.

Sheng Yan came over to her, still wearing his mask, took the barbecue she handed him, and placed it in a bowl.

Jinxia lightly nudged him with her elbow, whispering, "Why did you go out with Angus?"

Sheng Yan lowered his head, dealing with the barbecue, and said flatly, "I bumped into him and talked about something."

Jinxia: Hmm?

She looked up at Angus, who appeared out of it, lost in thought, and suspiciously said, "You guys didn’t go out to fight, did you?"

Sheng Yan chuckled lightly, "Jinxia, if we really fought, he wouldn’t be standing here unharmed."

Jinxia pinched the soft flesh on his waist, saying seriously, "Tell me what you really did!"

Sheng Yan repeated, "I just talked to him, asked him to keep an eye on you, and report any unusual activity to me."

Jinxia giggled, "Mr. Sheng, are you not confident in your own charm?"

Sheng Yan said blandly, "It’s not about confidence; I’m just afraid you might get caught in a trap."

He sighed softly, took her hand and kissed it gently, "I feel uneasy when you’re not by my side."

Jinxia playfully glared at him, "I can take on two people at once, you know!"

Sheng Yan gazed deeply into her eyes, "No matter how strong you are, I still worry."

Jinxia’s eyes curved into a smile, her clear phoenix eyes rippling with amusement, like gentle waves that could drown one in their depths.

Feeling a tingling in his heart, Sheng Yan leaned in close.

Jinxia put her hand up to stop him, smiling coyly, "With the mask on, it doesn’t feel right. No kisses!"

Fine, if he couldn’t kiss her lips, he’d settle for her hand.

Jinxia’s hand was suddenly ambushed, causing her to shiver slightly before she pushed him away, running off elsewhere, yet glancing back at him with a smile on her face.

Sheng Yan’s lips curled into a grin as well, and he ran after her, determined to catch her and hold her in his arms...

Meanwhile, among the group still in a battle with delicious food, Aunt Rui and Mrs. He occasionally looked up at Jinxia in the distance.

They saw the playful interaction between Jinxia and Sheng Yan.

The two mothers exchanged a smile, pleased to see their children getting along so well, which put them at ease.

Both families had such a long history together; if the children didn’t genuinely like each other, they wouldn’t force them into marriage. A loveless marriage wouldn’t be happy.

The worst case would be ending up as enemies instead of in-laws, which would be worse than just being friends from the start.

Now that the children are in love, and a wedding seems likely this year, the two mothers felt as rejuvenated as if they took a powerful tonic.

Children are born as a debt; you must raise and educate them well, watch them settle into a good life, and only then can you as parents feel relieved.

Everyone in the crew was mesmerized by the Chinese food, head down in eating and drinking, making Angus, who returned not touching the food or even drinking water, seem out of place. He merely held his cup.

A familiar crew member nudged him curiously, "Why aren’t you eating? Don’t you like it? I’ve seen you eat a lot before."

Angus forced a smile, "I’m full already. It’s delicious, you should have more."

The crew member frowned, "What’s up with you, so distracted?"

Angus answered absentmindedly, "No, I just didn’t expect..."

"Didn’t expect what?"

Angus snapped back, quickly saying, "No, I just didn’t expect Chinese food to be so good. If I’d known, I’d have visited Huaxia to taste the local specialties."

The crew member patted his shoulder, laughing heartily, "Not just Chinese food, but also the amazing Chinese Martial Arts!

I also plan to visit Huaxia someday, to see Wudang and Emei, maybe try Tai Chi Boxing, perhaps meet a hidden master who will take me as a disciple on the way!"

The crew member spoke excitedly while performing a nose-wiping gesture with his thumb, a signature fighting move of a former international Chinese superstar.

It was that superstar who made Chinese Martial Arts famous globally.

Except he still held a skewer, which made the move look awkward and funny rather than imposing.

The others teased, "Hans, stop dreaming; you’re already thirty. In Huaxia terms, your bones have set, hard to mold now."

"Go away, can’t I be a late bloomer?"

"To cultivate martial arts, you need to start young. Stop struggling and accept your fate."

"Bah, how about ’thirty years east of the river, thirty years west, don’t underestimate young people when they age’! "

"Hahaha, old Hans, you’re 30, stop calling yourself a youngster. It’s embarrassing to even hear!"

...

Amid the playful banter, Angus joined the laughter to hide his unease, though his thoughts were still wandering.

The masked man was actually Sheng Yan?!

Oh my god, what kind of formidable existence did he provoke? Sheng Yan was even his idol!

He had actually tried to pursue the idol’s girl before...

Angus swallowed, a wry smile on his face, feeling a chill down his back at the thought.

In the overseas crew, everyone happily celebrated the New Year, and Jinxia took Mrs. He and Aunt Rui for a day out, shopping, and they returned with a pile of loot.

Sheng Yan acted as their chauffeur and porter, dutifully, without a single complaint that could be seen, at least on the surface.

Regardless of whether he was willing or not, the day of parting would always come.
