Supreme Alchemist-Chapter 2460 - 2450 Open the Door
Chapter 2460: Chapter 2450 Open the Door
The strange name of the inn immediately caught Long Yan’s gaze. Why would there be an inn with such a name? Isn’t that just pushing all the customers away? No wonder other inns were bustling, yet this one at the entrance was deserted.
Long Yan slowly pushed open the inn’s gate. It seemed that no one had been here for a long time. As Long Yan opened the door, it creaked loudly. Long Yan wanted to take a look at the surrounding scene, but a "person" appeared in front of him.
"Guest, are you here to rest or stay overnight?"
Why use quotation marks? It’s because the being in front of him had the appearance of a person, but the head was, quite literally, a mouse’s head.
"You..."
Long Yan didn’t know what to say. After all, the being in front of him indeed looked rather unsettling. Although Long Yan didn’t care too much about appearances, seeing this visage left him speechless.
"The guest need not mind. I am not of the Human Clan, just making a living through this inn," said the being in front of him, whiskers twitching as it spoke. It turned out this was a demon from the Demon Race. Long Yan had seen many such beings in the world before, including mice that had become spirits.
However, since Long Yan hadn’t encountered any from the Demon Race for some time, he was startled.
"Stay overnight."
Long Yan didn’t say much more, found a clean bench to sit on, and handed over the identity card from his neck. Generally, in this town, if you wanted to buy something, using the identity card was sufficient, no need for actual silver. But the mouse head shook vehemently.
"Sorry, guest, we don’t have such a contact network here, so we request the guest to pay in cash."
Then, a blush appeared on the mouse head, which puzzled Long Yan. It seemed this contact network was prevalent throughout the town, so why was it absent here?
"After all, both the shopkeeper and I here are of the Demon Race, and they are unwilling to hand such things to us."
"Not of my race, their hearts must be extinguished." It appeared this contact network was devised by mercenaries, and if such a thing were handed over to non-Human Clan beings, the security couldn’t be guaranteed.
"Never mind."
Long Yan waved his hand, took out a piece of patterned silver from his pocket, and placed it on the table, seeing the mouse head’s eyes emitting a golden light. It hastily bit the silver, verified its authenticity, and then swiftly tucked it into its pocket.
"Please follow me, guest."
After receiving the money, the mouse head gestured for Long Yan to follow upstairs. Before heading up, Long Yan assessed the hall’s scene. The inn’s doors were usually closed, so much so that tables were covered with dust. However, the table inside was different, with some handprints remaining on it.
Long Yan said nothing and followed the mouse head upstairs. The shopkeeper, as the mouse head had mentioned, was someone Long Yan never saw. He kept all of this in mind as they arrived before a room door.
"Please, guest."
The mouse head bowed, gesturing for Long Yan to step inside. The room was no different than a regular guest room, except the window had been boarded up, with only fragmented sunlight filtering inside.
More than feeling like a guest, Long Yan felt imprisoned here. Yet, his task was to unravel the mystery within, so he said nothing.
"Well then, I’ll be leaving first. By the way, would you like some wine and food delivered tonight?"
The mouse head retreated to the door, asking once more before leaving. Long Yan shook his hand, declining the offer. The inn was shrouded in mystery, and Long Yan decided caution was the wisest choice.
"Oh, one more thing, guest, there’s something you should be aware of."
At the doorway, the mouse head hesitated briefly before gritting its teeth and saying,
"If someone knocks at your door at night, please don’t open it."
With that, the mouse head closed the door, and a sound, ’thump, thump,’ came from the stairs, sounding more like it was fleeing for its life than descending.
This left Long Yan puzzled. What did it mean not to open the door if someone knocked at night? Could it be the inn wasn’t so clean?
However, after the series of events in the temple, Long Yan felt immune to such tales of the bizarre and said nothing further, sitting cross-legged on the bed to heal his injuries.
Night soon fell, and Long Yan awoke from his meditation. The injuries sustained in the temple were almost healed, and Long Yan, with restored strength, felt his True Qi seemed stronger than before, which was a good thing.
Taking wine and meat from his Storage Ring, Long Yan enjoyed a hearty meal. But then, he seemed to hear something happening next door, a slight sound trickling into Long Yan’s ears.
"You say... what?"
"How is this possible? Once I solve the mystery here, everything will be resolved."
"Get lost, impossible."
The voices sounded like a discussion between two people, but the clarity of the other voice was too low for Long Yan to discern, leaving him only to guess that they were quarrelling. As Long Yan tried to use True Qi to make the sounds clearer, he heard another voice from the adjacent room.
"Keep your voice down, be careful of eavesdroppers."
Following that sentence, everything in the adjacent room quieted down, evidently a hushed consultation began, leading Long Yan to abandon his eavesdropping attempt. After all, this Cannibal Inn wasn’t a nice place, perhaps those next door were also staying guests or hired mercenaries on a mission?
Long Yan felt familiar with the voices but couldn’t place them. Operating on the principle of shared residence, he considered stepping out to take a look. But it was already the dead of night, and he feared unnecessary trouble, so he stayed put.
After a satisfying meal, as Long Yan planned to return to bed, the room next door sounded with knocking, followed by two shrill screams, plunging the entire inn into silence.
Long Yan got out of bed; what was going on? Should he go out and take a look?
He got out of bed and walked to the door slowly, but suddenly the surrounding temperature dropped as if drastically, followed by a moderate sound of footsteps on the wooden floor.
"Click, clack."
The sound didn’t resemble the traditional boots of a man, more like the wooden shoes worn by women. Then came a thudding sound from Long Yan’s door, further dropping the temperature around him, followed by a terrifying voice from outside.
"Open the door!"
