Chapter 661: Demonic Invasion: Nathan’s Might
"What? The portal opened close to the wall?" Hans, the short, sturdy warrior, shouted into the communication crystal.
"Yes." The voice from the other side responded—it was Elvin, and at this current moment, he sounded extremely urgent.
The others at the table inside the large meeting tent—Nathan, the Ant Queen, Gordons, Celine, Boris, and Theo—had pale expressions on their faces.
"According to him, he was initially planning to open the portal within or right at the front to overwhelm us."
Nathan snatched the communication crystal, forgetting that these were rare and expensive to come by. "How many are they?"
Elvin didn’t respond immediately, and after a while, he said, "100,000 plus... and they still keep pouring out."
"Damn, that’s a powerful force. Will the dragons standing by be enough to scare them?" Hans frowned, biting his lower lip and drawing blood, his foot tapping anxiously on the ground.
"Can you close the portal?"
On the other side, the two stood on a hill overlooking the chaos. They watched the demonic beings pour out of the portal, running in all directions while muttering. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Food! Food!"
It was as if that was the only thing they knew. Their eyes were several shades deeper, and saliva dripped from their mouths.
The thousands of demons were all rushing toward the Cromwell Barony, and hovering just above them was a winged demon who radiated a crushing pressure.
Looking at that demon, Bridget felt her blood run cold, and a bead of sweat appeared on her face. She took a single step back.
’Why.’ The headmistress’s eyes glinted. ’Why do I have the same feeling from that woman as well? Could it be they’re at the same level?’
"What is it?" Elvin asked, also struggling to breathe in the presence of the winged demon.
Bridget warned in a serious voice, "Warn the others about that thing, if not, it will be extremely difficult to deal with."
Elvin nodded and quickly relayed the information about the winged demon and Bridget’s warning to the others.
By now, the Awakened, the Ant army, and the dragons stood at the front of the town, gripping their weapons with trembling arms.
They had all been warned of the approaching enemies, and from how serious the Baron sounded, it felt as if this would be their biggest fight yet.
Soon, the ground trembled from the running of thousands of demons.
Rumble! Rumble!
"Ant Queen." Nathan said in a dark voice.
Although they couldn’t really understand the Ant Queen, she could easily understand others and take orders.
He said, "I want you to report to Nox about the current situation. Tell him to hasten up and return to defend the Barony."
The Queen nodded and attempted to contact him through their link, but the distance was further than she thought. So instead, she summoned one of her elites—a black-carapaced ant—and sent it to go find Nox.
Soon after, the thousands of demons gradually popped out in the distance, their eyes shining with madness. In front of them all was the winged demon.
"My name is General Iron!" The winged demon’s voice boomed across the battlefield. "You have one choice—surrender now or die fighti—"
FWOOOSH! BOOOM!
A powerful flame ball descended on the demon general point-blank mid-speech, and a massive explosion occurred in the midst of the demons, killing several lower demons at once.
The demon general, who was Level 120, naturally survived the blast. He flapped his wings powerfully, coming out of the smoke, his face twisting into intense rage.
He glanced up, and his gaze settled on his attacker.
It was an old, bony man who seemed as if the wind could knock him over. He stood atop a wyvern, but despite his weak appearance, his eyes—practically burning with flame—held an intense resolve and determination to fight.
"He... he healed it?"
"Is that Doombringer?"
When the Awakened of Cromwell Barony saw the beast, they were confused—some hopeful—but a few, like Hans and Gordons, who knew about the special short-term effects potion, weren’t too enthusiastic.
Rather, they silently hoped it was enough for Nathan to deal with the immediate threat.
"We decline your choices, filthy demons." Nathan’s voice, amplified with mana, boomed across the battlefield as he pointed a finger at the demons.
"We’d rather die fighting. And mind you, demon... if anyone is dying here today, it’s you!" Nathan declared, his eyes glowing with madness.
The madness far surpassed even that of the demons, and the winged expert-level demon showed a small trace of fear, as if he was facing a ravenous beast.
"Doombringer, get him!" Nathan roared at the top of his voice, and the wyvern shot towards the winged demon while he stayed atop it like a sword.
Behind him, tiny magical circles lit up, and with a rumbling sound like cannon fire, thunderous bangs echoed as a rain of flaming bullets shot out, all aimed at the winged demon.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The relentless blasts easily destroyed trees and even hills behind the winged demon. The main target, however, was very slippery. He glided effortlessly across the air, dodging the bullets.
Nathan remained calm. He had long expected this and had countermeasures in place.
Stretching out his arms, he was about to initiate another attack when he started to cough violently.
He cleaned his mouth and saw the blood in his palm, quickly hiding it. His actions had been swift—so swift that the winged demon wasn’t able to see his moment of vulnerability.
"Hahaha, old man, you’re stron—"
BANG!
The demon wasn’t able to finish his words as he received a powerful punch right to the face that sent him flying back like a broken kite, slamming into a hill and forming a deep crater within it.
He glanced up to see Nathan landing smoothly on Doombringer’s back with practiced ease.
’How did he close the distance so fast.’ The demon’s eyes widened as he struggled to get up.
"Flaming Pillar!" Nathan shouted.
The demon struggled to eject himself from the crater but couldn’t in time, and the flaming pillar smashed into him.
Nathan didn’t celebrate at this. Instead, he held his chest as his eyes burned intensely. ’I need to finish this fast... I need to keep going... I can’t afford to fall now.’
